Nehemiah is the story of a God-fearing man that not only had a vision, but set out on a quest to see to it that his vision would become a reality. God put it on his heart to do so. He did this by traveling to the city of Judah and organizing the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem. Under his management, the walls were rebuilt in only 52 days. In his quest, Nehemiah exudes qualities that are beyond admirable. He was inspirational. He was humble. He was honest. Last, but not least, he knew how to utilize his resources to the fullest extent. These qualities are what made Nehemiah a very efficient and effective leader, the kind of leader that could take a business successfully around the globe. I am in the process of deciding whether or not to expand my company’s operations to Mexico. What appeals to me about Mexico is its close proximity to the United States, the fact that is has no tariffs, and the strong work ethic that Mexicans living in America appear to have. I aspire to be like Nehemiah and exude those same leadership qualities that can be attributed to his success in the event that we do expand operations into Mexico.

It is apparent that Nehemiah was a very inspirational leader, because he was able to inspire the Jews to get on board with his vision incredibly fast. There is a lot that goes into being an inspirational leader. Inspiring people requires being knowledgeable about your audience so that you are able to connect with them. You must discover what motivates them. You must be able to establish credibility with them. You must exhibit confidence because in order for them to believe in you, you must be able to illustrate that you believe in yourself. You must demonstrate that you are worthy of respect. You must be courageous and be able to defend yourself and your stance when challenged.

Nehemiah was knowledgeable about the Jews that survived captivity and remained in Jerusalem. He knew that they were in great distress and reproach. He illustrated his knowledge of them in the way that he addressed them “Come and let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer be a reproach” Nehemiah 2:17 (New King James Version). He utilized this same statement as a motivator for the Jews. He established credibility with the Jews by letting them know that he had God and the king’s blessings. “And I told them of the hand of my God which had been good upon me, and also of the king’s words that he had spoken to me” Nehemiah 2:18 (New King James Version). He exhibited confidence and courageousness after he was challenged by Sanballat, Tobiah, and Geshem. He responded to their taunting, “The God of heaven Himself will prosper us; therefore we His servants will arise and build, but you have no heritage or right or memorial in Jerusalem” Nehemiah 2:20 (New King James Version). He researched the background of the Jews, he used what he found to motivate them, he established credibility with them, and he exhibited confidence and stood his ground when challenged. These are all reasons why he was able to inspire the people of Jerusalem to build the walls.

If my company were to expand its operations to Mexico we would need to be knowledgeable about the Mexican workforce, just as Nehemiah was knowledgeable about the Jews. It would also be important for us to be aware of how the Mexican workforce differs from the American workforce. According to Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions, Mexico is a collective country, which means Mexicans prefer to be members of groups rather than act as individuals (Robbins, Decenzo, & Coulter, 2011, p.36). Since the United States is more of an individualism country, which means we prefer to act as individuals rather than as members of a group, this difference could be beneficial to my company because Mexicans would most likely work well on teams and in groups. According to Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions, Mexico also has a large power distance, which means the people of Mexico accept that power in institutions and organizations is distributed extremely unequally (Robbins et al., 2011, p.36). This fact could be seen in a positive light, because it implies that Mexicans may already have an understanding of the chain of command within an organization, since they are accustomed to settings of unequal power distribution

Mexico is more of a nurturing country than the United States. Mexicans value relationships, and show sensitivity and concern for the welfare of others. To Americans values such as assertiveness, the acquisition of money and material goods, and competition are important (Robbins et al., 2011, p.36). These differences would be great to keep in mind when deciding upon merit and rewards systems for my company if we decided to expand operations into Mexico. It would also be a great difference to consider when training front line supervisors how on how to manage employees most effectively in their day to day activities. Since the values are different between the two countries, most likely the motivators will be different. It appears that relationships with supervisors will have a large impact on productivity for Mexican workers.

Nehemiah was also very humble in his leadership of the Jews. “I pray, LORD God of heaven, O great and awesome God, You who keep Your covenant and mercy with hose who love You and observe Your commandments” Nehemiah 1:5 (New King James Version). Here he reverenced God, which demonstrated his humility. When he arrived at Jerusalem he waited three days and told no one what God had put in his heart to do there. Nehemiah 2:12 (New King James Version). This vow of silence Nehemiah took is also an illustration of his humble leadership. Most leaders, when given assignments or visions as huge as the task he had taken on, are so excited about the task they cannot keep it to themselves. Instead of boasting and bragging about rebuilding the wall, Nehemiah kept it to himself until it was time to reveal his plan and who would be responsible for executing it.

Since Mexicans are nurturing and show sensitivity and concern for the welfare of others I believe that they would respond well to a humble leader……….example from peer reviewed journal to support.

Nehemiah and honest

Nehemiah and utilizing resources

Nehemiah mastered the art of gaining the most output from using the least amount of input, and this is exactly what I want to accomplish in the expansion of my company to Mexico.

Definition Essay On What Makes A Good Woman

...What is a Good Man/Good Woman? Many define a good man as being someone who is honest, loyal and can take care of his woman. While all that is true, a good man is defined in deeper terms to me. A good man is loyal because without loyalty there is no trust and trust is the foundation for relationships/friendship. He has a good heart, has a great sense of humor and knows a good woman when he is In the presence of one. He is physically, spiritually, mentally, and financially stable and capable of taking care of his self. A good man is also God-Fearing and knows that he isn’t perfect, but working to always better his-self. A good man will pray with you and for you. He appreciates and respects women and don’t take advantage her kindness, he would build a woman up and not tear her down. He loves and respects family. A good man is someone who is willing to encourage his woman or the next person that is down, even while he might be going through something on his own. He also has a heart and when...

Power In Macbeth

...event of the Gunpowder Plot in Macbeth, Shakespeare proposes that acting upon murderous thoughts will only result in an infinite amount of consequences. Before physical consequences come moral consequences after Macbeth kills Duncan he dares not relive his terrible deed and is “afraid to think of what [he has] done”(2.2.50). An abundance of historical context comes from popular events and activities from the time period of Macbeth. For example, The “Great Chain of Being” stands for the idea that God designated a place for each human being on earth. This popular view on life parallels divine right and signifies that the position God has prepared for an individual cannot be...

Sinners In The Hands Of An Angry God Rhetorical Analysis

..."Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" was a sermon given by the Puritan minister Jonathan Edwards. In this sermon Edwards uses the fear that God can punish the wicked at any time he wants, to keep his people under control. Some say this type of harsh preaching was a practice used by the puritans to make all people live a righteous and correct life. A multitude of people have analyzed ¨Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God¨ and have many different interpretations of it. Most would agree it is simply about a man trying to scare people into Christianity using the roaring wrath of God as stated above. There are others who have taken that idea and used it to compare different concepts. The ideas that stem from this sermon ¨Sinners in the Hands...

...the God-fearing people of the land can unite. I believe that there is only one God and this God is manifested in three persons-Father, Son and Holy Spirit (trinity). He is the creator of the universe and of all life, the sustainer of all things, who is infinite in glory, wisdom, holiness, justice, power and love. God is love and thus is a personal God establishing a personal relationship with those who are called His people. I believe man was created in the image and likeness of God. However, through the sin of Adam, man fell into sin and is, therefore separated from Christ. As a sinner mankind was subject to both physical and spiritual death becoming eternally separated from God and incapable of providing redemption for himself. Only if a man be born again, will he see the kingdom of God. The bible and all of its 66 books are the plenary, verbally inspired Word of God. It is inerrant in its original manuscripts and infallible in its authority. The bible is the ultimate authority guidebook from God to Man in matters of faith and day to day life, interpreted by the Holy Spirit to each individual believer. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the second person of the trinity conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin, Mary. I also believe that in his earthly ministry Jesus Christ lived a sinless life pleasing God and performing miracles. Jesus Christ on his own free will died on the cross to be the sacrificial lamb for the redemption of man and that...

...evangelized the southern part of Galatia[1] during their first missionary journey. Their practice was to first go to the synagogues and preach to Jews and God-fearing gentiles. Shortly after their arrival in each city, Jews raised opposition to Paul and Barnabas causing them to turn to the gentiles and make converts among them. Based on Paul’s previous persecution of Christians, it is not surprising to me that after Paul and Barnabas would move on, other Jewish Christians would come on the scene with a different message. These false teachers, called Judaizers[2], The problem Paul encountered with these Judaizers was with their teaching that those who embrace Christian salvation must also submit to Jewish law, known as “legalism”.[3] Paul’s purpose in writing Galatians was to express his anger and astonishment that not only were the new Galatian believers in the process of turning away (deserting, metatithesthe, as in a military desertion) from the truth but because it was happening so quickly after his last visit to them, or so soon after the false teachers began their work. The departure was not simply from a system of theology but from God Himself, the One who had called them by the grace of Christ (the dominant theme of the epistle). [4] To add emphasis to his argument, Paul states in verses 8 & 9 that if anyone, man or even an angel from heaven, would preach a different gospel than Paul preached to them then let them be cursed! These Judaizers, who sought to lead the...

Mumbaki

...Ifugao wherein their belief in their so-called 'baki' or gods is so strong that they would even forgo the medicine putting their whole trust in the mumbaki, fearing that if ever they would not follow him their pagan god would bring them diseases and plagues. In the movie also we saw here how that in just a small argument a war might erupt just like the dispute of the Alimit and the Lidum tribe. From there it can also be said that revenge always happen once again because their god might bring them incurable sicknesses and even death thus when the epidemic diseases already experienced by some has transferred to many refusing the medicine given by their attending physician. For my own personal standpoint I must say they are all idiots, I have been to Banaue been born there and had my childhood there and in there I have seen adults carrying pigs in bamboo stalks even in the early morning or late at night, they always perform this ritual whenever they need the guidance of their pagan gods such as looking for a lost person in the forest, an offering to their gods for a newlywed but the most common time you see it is in the funeral. My comments about it? Crazy and Fanatical the reason is why would I need to dance around a pig several times before killing it and worse even chanting some weird stuff while dancing around like a mad man. But still what can I do? A culture is always a culture and it will remain like that until man knows how to adapt into something new and that is when a...

Bible Dictionary

...Bible Dictionary Project-Old Testament Book: Job The book of Job is the eighteenth book in the Bible and is a book about Faith, Pride and Loyalty. Job was a God-Fearing man who was faithful and loyal to God and His word, and God’s pride for Job caused him to boast about Job while having a conversation with Satan, then giving Satan permission to test just how faithful Job would be if he were to lose everything he had. Job was a wealthy man but Satan was going see how faithful Job really was to God. Satan caused Job to lose all of his material possessions, caused him to become sick and endured tremendous suffering all while his family and friends turned their backs on him, telling him that he brought on all of his suffering on himself because of his sins, but Job never allowed what he was going through to cause him to reject God. As stated in the Amplified Bible Introduction to the book of Job, “Neither the time when Job lived nor the author can be determined with any certainty.” Some of the book was written in the second millennium B.C. (2000-1000). The key theme discussed in the book of Job is suffering and how it relates to righteous living and Job proved to God that even during the times when he was being tested by losing all that he had, He continued to believe in God, and as stated in the (Amplified Bible Job 42:10) “And the Lord turned captivity of Job and restored his fortunes, when he prayed for his friends: also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.”...

...a supreme rationalist. All of his theories always one common underlying theme and that is that man is rational being and should be thought of in that way. Furthermore complicating the relationship between religion and politics. Most pragmatists would argue that both religion and politics cannot coexist with conflict, they simply exist for opposing reason. However, Hobbes argues that there could be a coexistence between the two. Although the laws of Gods and man are very different, according to Hobbes, they rarely contradict each other. I have a very hard time understanding this because it is very apparent in my life that the laws of God and man contradict each other on a very regular basis. It’s quite simple actually, being raised Catholic, I learned that there are certain things the law of man will allow for you to do that would be considered offensive towards God, or sinful. It became apparent to me quite quickly while reading Dumouchel, that he agreed. The sincerity of Hobbes should most certainly be questioned. For someone who bases the entirety of their theories around being rational and rooted in concrete science. His teachings on religion come off to me in a slightly mocking tone. However, I more strongly feel that he was simply writing in such a way to stay in the good graces of those in power, who would not support a strictly rationalized theory that did not involve God. Furthermore, Hobbes had to dance around the subject and teach that there was a need for both...

Depression in Women and Men

...Stephanie Hazelton Psyc 101 Pro. Lydia Tchividjian July 9, 2012 Being a Christian has made my dating and mating process experiences highly different. I had a hard time at first with dating as a Christian. I would go out on dates and completely cast guys out because of little things that they would do. I was being very self righteous in my opinion. So I decided to let my hair down a little, but when I did that I ended up losing my virginity to a man that was not meant to be my husband. I had to regroup myself and get my life back on the right track. Through much prayer and mentoring with a close friend, I got back to the place I needed to be. These are some of the main reason why there are some big differences with dating and mating as a Christian and as a worldly being. Dating and mating as a worldly being tells you that meeting someone that fits with you is a great thing. If you fall in love with that person it’s a great thing, and the best way to show that love for each other is by making love to that person. The pre caution that you should take is making sure you use protection. The world tells you that there is nothing wrong with these actions. I know better than that. In the bible it tells us that sex is suppose to be between a husband and his wife. Our bodies are supposed to be a living sacrifice holy and acceptable unto Christ.(Holy Bible) Now how can we be a living sacrifice if with are just freely sleeping with any and everybody that we feel we are...

... THEO 202-B26 LUO The Problem of Evil Evil is profoundly immoral and malevolent. Most Christians have experienced, heard or seen various types of evils in the world today. As a matter of fact, some believers have difficulties watching bad news on television, such as a moral evil when a person killed another person and natural evil when an earthquake is experienced killing people. These evils are pains in the flesh of believers. Theodicy are getting confused and asking why God allow evil in the world when He is holy and all powerful. God speaks through his prophets as well as the Holy Bible and scripture verses to confirm his creation and relationship with mankind (Gen. 1:27; Gen. 5:2; Deut. 4:33; NKJV). God realized man should not be alone and made a companion called Eve. God gave man demeanor over all creatures and commanded Adam and Eve not to eat from the Tree of Life. God said to Adam in Genesis 3:16-20 that “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. However, as his children and cattle are killed, and his life crumbles around him, he still trusts in God, praying for the solution to his punishment. Even when God does not deliver, he does not stop believing - however, he does complain as to why God is punishing him. Elie is a teenager in the town of Sighet, in Hungary, when the Nazis invade. Old Testament Project

...OLD TESTAMENT BIBLE DICTIONARY PROJECT Jennifer Buchanan 3145700 BIB 104-B73 Sept. 26th 2015 The Book of Job The book of Job is a non-fiction biography of a righteous man described in the opening verse as “perfect and upright, and one who feared God, and eschewed evil”. The main character is a healthy and prosperous man whom the devil is allowed to bring suffering and hardship to in order to test his righteousness. After standing firm in his faith during this difficult hardship including loss of his family, health, wealth, and reputation, the Bible tells us that everything was returned to him in double portion. Other characters include his family and his three closest friends; Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar. Job was such a God fearing man, he rose every morning and offered a sacrifice to God for each of his ten children. “And it was so, when the days of their feast were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them and rose up early in the morning and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, it may be that my sons have sinned and cursed God in their hearts”(Job 1:5/KJV). So this was his morning ritual just in case he needed to make restitution to the Lord by sacrifice for other members of his household. The book of Job has a style that flows from narrative to dialogue, speeches, poetry, more monologue and finally back to narrative (Hindson and Towns, 2013). The author is unknown as well as the date it was written. However...

Dimmesdale's Sympathetic Tone In The Scarlet Letter By Nathaniel Hawthorne

...In the novel The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Dimmesdale is introduced with a sympathetic tone. Hawthorne portrays Dimmesdale as a tormented man in order to get the audience to sympathize with him. By highlighting Dimmesdale’s “melancholy eyes” and overall timid nature, Hawthorne establishes the strange and internal fragility of the town’s revered minister (64). Since eyes are often a symbol of the soul, Hawthorne uses the description of Dimmesdale’s eyes in order to relate that it is, in fact, Dimmesdale’s soul that is so despondent. This disconsolate nature within such a high-ranking and well respected official alludes to a deeper conflict within Dimmesdale’s spirit. Such a conflict elicits a sympathetic tone from the narrator who, like most humans, pities those with deeply troubled souls....
