”Cirrus, Socrates, particle, decibel, hurricane, dolphin, tulip, Monica” those are the words Monica says to David to “make him love her”. David is a mecha, also known as a highly developed robot. He is an experiment to Dr. Hobby, who wants to take robots a step further, and want to build a robot that can feel love.
“We built a robot child, who can love, a robot child who will generally love the parents with a love that will never end.” Mr. and Mrs. Swinton’s son is critically ill. Henry, Mr. Swinton, is an employee of Dr. Hobby, so he and he’s wife gets go be tester of the new robot. Monica, Mrs. Swinton, is horrified by the thought of adopting a mecha, but her need for love is so big that she ends up saying yes. David is built to love, which means that he also can be jealous, needy, angry and sad. After a while, suddenly their son, Martin, gets out of his coma and come back home. The two boys gets jealous of one another, and Martin starts asking David a lot of questions, kind of annoying questions. He also begins to ask about his birthday, but the only thing he remember is some kind of a bird. After some time in the family, David begins to get annoyed by Martin, and it ends up with Monica driving him to the forest, and has to leave him there. David begins to apologize for not being a real boy and for not being Martin. He looks at Monica, and tells that Pinocchio became a real boy, so if he could just find the blue fairy, he could be a real boy too. She is telling him not to go to Flash Fairy, because they will catch him, and only people like him will understand him. He walks in to the forest with the thought; that if he finds the blue fairy, he can become a real boy, and then Monica can love him back. In the movie we are in the future. I do not know exactly when, but they are driving in high technology cars, they are making robots and the global warming has melted the poles, so the world is slowly getting flooded, so I guess that it should look like we are twenty, maybe thirty years into the future. We start in the U.S.A, where Henry and Monica lives in their big house with David and Martin. We see in the movie that they have a big garden and a pool, so I think that we should see them as they were rich. After Monica drops David in the forest he meets a lot of other mechas, who is living there and is trying to survive. David ends up getting caught by people from a TV-show, using the mechas to destroy them. He gets on stage, with Joe, another mecha, but people see him as a real boy, and they let them go. David tells Joe about the blue fairy that can make him a real boy. Joe tells him that they can find her in New York. Then they find a car on the road and drive to New York, but the only thing they find is some kind of machine that can answer questions. It leads him back to Dr. Hobby, and the place where he was built. But what he finds is mechas built just like him. He feels sad and walks out of the building, and suddenly he thinks he sees his mother. He leans over and begins to fall towards the water. At the bottom of the sea David sees the blue fairy. David’s teddy and himself ends up in a submarine, and just looking at the blue fairy for a thousand years. In the far future, some aliens ends up finding David, and they say that they can make everything come true. So he wishes his mother back, and for one day, in their old house, David is loved by his mother. At the end of the day David and Monica closes their eyes, and David is taking his last mechanic breath. David is a mecha child, which means he is a robot build to look like a 13-year old human. He is the first robot built to love, and he gets adopted by a family to test him. He has shiny skin, blue eyes and perfect teeth. He is like a really perfect and beautiful child on the outside, and just by looking at him, you would not see that he is a mecha. But on the inside he is a machine. He cannot eat real food, cause it would destroy the technology in his body, and that would mean that he would “die”, or actually he would break. He does not sleep, he just closes his eyes and relax. He is built to love, and Monica was the one to “turn him on”, so he loves Monica. He is jalousie on every one, trying to take her away from him. He just wants her on his own, he wants her attention and he wants her love. But Monica loves her own family more, and cannot love David enough. David meets Gigolo Joe, and he travels around with him, trying to find the one and only think that can make Monica love him, the blue fairy. Monica read “Pinocchio” to him, and that was how David heard of the blue fairy, and he just have to find her, cause if she could make Pinocchio into a real boy, then she can make him in to a real boy, and then will Monica start loving him. Pinocchio is a story about a man, chipping a boy out of wood. Geppetto is the man, and he is calling the boy Pinocchio, because it is a lucky name. The wood came alive, and suddenly Geppetto had a son. Pinocchio is a boy made out of wood, going on the journey of his life, trying to be a good boy, so he can become a real boy, and be happy with his father. I see things in the two stories that reminds of each other. It is two boys that just wants to be happy, but before they can be happy, they are on a long journey, trying to find out who they can trust, and who they can be happy with. His love is real. But he is not.
