Managing People with Technology
Technological advances in the workplace have brought about a drastic change in the business environment, and the way people are managed. The workplace is being shaped today by an advanced web, powerful technologies, and social media that is accessible on any electronic device of any size. The merging of these technologies and workforce trends are creating a generation of workers who are hyper connected, and managers who are learning to communicate with them.
Losing the Face to Face
I know that in the medium sized government where I work, most critical collaboration and crisis resolution is still done face-to-face with the support of technology. However, the use of technology can severely limit the amount of interaction among employees. Most of the resources that an employee could need can be accessed right from their desk. A lot of the planned and impromptu meetings around the coffee machine in the employee lounge, smoker’s outpost in the back parking lot, are often replaced by email and voice mail messages, conference calls, and shared access to data over computer networks. Email is a way that allows most of the work to get done ahead of time so that meetings in person can be as productive as possible and employees can convey thoughts and feelings. ...CRISOSTOMO, Jestine A. Age of Paperless Paper / Online newsroom When I was young, my mother taught me how to write on paper. Tracing letters to words and drawing of dog or a flower. When I was growing up, my teacher always want us to write essays, poems or even lectures on paper - back to back. Yeah, I had a tough time writing on paper but I do know that because of that experience, I learn how to write, to read, to compose and to draw or sketch. Paper is a thin sheet of a material made from fibers derived from wood or grass. A thin sheet that helped me molds the person that I am now and a thin sheet that gave me the knowledge that I have now. Through the years, paper is used as a medium to convey printed or written information such as books, magazines, newspaper, and etc. Today, the digitalization in the print industry leads to an assumption that the Age of paperless paper is coming. Yes, paperless, based on the pessimistic people. No more printed outputs, no more newspapers and magazines or even books that are held and read by human. Of course, electronic books (ebooks) are available now. You can have a book on your gadget for free or pay just a little amount rather than buying a real book. Online newspaper and magazines too are converging to online world. They already have applications that let you read the same newspaper using just your gadget with the help of the internet. Cool right? Life becomes easier with the advent of technology. But it gives a hard time to the print...

Leadership

...Improve Leadership Skills Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report Self-Reflection Essay What better way exists to examine key concepts of organizational behaviour than to reflect on one's own experiences and beliefs as they apply to workplace successes and failures? In this report, I intend to review a variety of theories relative to organizational behaviour by considering each in relation to my own experiences as a mid-level manager. This reflection will focus primarily on three themes including personality, working in groups, and leadership. Throughout this report, I will consider my own personal strengths and weaknesses, attempting to determine how each affected situational outcomes. Many of these strengths and weaknesses were highlighted through a series of self-assessment exercises completed as part of the "Prentice Hall Self-Assessment Library" (Robbins and Judge, 2007), the results of which will be regularly referred to in this report. In closing, I will summarize areas requiring continued personal effort in order to ensure ongoing development and both personal and professional growth. Should Ebooks Take over?

...Yelyzaveta Tymchenko Dale Williams English 1020-101 July 4, 2013 Should e-books Take Over? In the current world, it is hard to see people with paper books in their hands. But people with smart phones, PC’s and other technological innovations can be seen in every place. Is it true that nobody is reading paper books in the world anymore? Some people say that e-books are more ecological and useful because there is no need to waste paper. However, others have a different opinion, and think that nothing can replace traditional books. Some people argue that there is no need in paper books anymore, while others people argue that there is need in paper books, and that it is more beneficial than e-books. There are two main words that need to be defined: traditional books and e-books. Today, most of the people are familiar with the term book. On a daily basis humans are using books for information, studying, researching or just for reading during their leisure time. Survival Guide

...Survival Guide Let’s Get Started On the first day of classes with Axia College, it is important to login and download the course materials and syllabus. I have found that by making folders under My Documents labeled first with the course name, and then inside have folders labeled each week 1-9 where I save the relevant materials for the weeks work. After downloading the files to the appropriate files, it is best to break up the syllabus. I like to copy and paste each week of the syllabus to a word document filed again under the corresponding week. This makes it easy to access what is needed for the week. It is also important to download the course calendar to keep a closer watch on when assignments are due. By looking at the course calendar at the beginning of each week you will be able to manage your assignments accordingly. After reading through the course syllabus and downloading course materials the next step is to check the main forum. The main forum is where your instructor posts information about what changes may be made for the week and also posts the weekly discussion questions for you to answer. In the main forum only the instructor will post topics. This is the area in which we as students post replies to the teacher and also our classmates. These posts are the only ones that apply to your weekly participation grade. It is very important...
