1. Introduction
1.1. Bloody Sunday
Sunday the 27th of January 1972 became known as the Bloody Sunday. This Sunday represents a very important point in the history of the partition of Ireland and the relationship between England and Northern Ireland. 14 people had been shot and another 13 wounded by British soldiers during a protest in the northern Irish city Derry for civil rights and against the British occupation policy on this very Sunday. The Events that took place on Bloody Sunday had been the initial phase for the conflict in Northern Ireland to escalate. As a result, the conflict got worse. Shortly after the declaration of the happenings in Derry, an enraged crowd of northern Irish citizens occupied the British Embassy in Dublin and burned it down.
To simplify the enormous amount of the subject matter “Ireland”, in the following lesson, there is going to be a didactical cutback. To begin with, the students are supposed to get to know some basic facts about the divided Ireland. In this one lesson, it is not about representing the topic in all of its details. To a greater degree, it is about approaching the topic particularly with regard to war and peace. The children shall know, what happened on Bloody Sunday and they should be able to classify the events into the historical-cultural background.1
1.2. The Song “Sunday, Bloody Sunday by U2”
One of the most famous Bands in the World, U2, was founded in 1983. The Single “Sunday, Bloody Sunday” is the reason for the breakthrough of the band. To this day, “Sunday, Bloody Sunday” is considered as one of the most political songs published by them. Even though the strophes of the song describe the view of an observer of Bloody Sunday, the band emphasizes that the song does not merely refer to the events that took place in January 1972:
We're into the politics of people, we're not into politics. Like you

The Widgery Report

...On the 30th January 1972, British soldiers shot dead thirteen Irish nationalist civilians during a civil rights demonstration, which protested against the present discrimination and state tyranny against the Catholic minority; Derry city, Northern Ireland. This event is known as ‘Bloody Sunday’, argued to be the most devastating instance of the British state’s use of armed force against its own citizens (Dawson, 2005). Source two, an interview of a Catholic priest that attended the demonstration appears to be more valuable to a researcher seeking to understand the events. To compare, source three acts as less useful to a researcher due to the level of criticism it later received, which ultimately led to a fresh inquiry in 2010, named the Saville...

Essay On Bloody Sunday

...2018 take for granted. Most people do not give a second thought to all the bloodshed and lives lost in order to gain equality. It is time for Americans to pay more attention to the events that left a permanent mark on this country. One of these events being Bloody Sunday. One must understand what happened before Bloody Sunday in order to understand why it took place to begin with. Before Bloody Sunday, another “non violent” night march was arranged to protest the arrest of James Orange in 1965. During this “peaceful” march, civil rights advocate, Jimmy Lee Jackson was shot and killed by an Alabama state trooper. This tragic event inspired people to stand up against inequality, and a march...

Pyotr Stolypin's Bloody Sunday

...and an end to the war, to the tsar. In the heart of St. Petersburg, the commander of the soldiers instructed the procession to disperse or suffer consequences for challenging the regime. The crowd refused. Under strict orders to prevent the crowd from reaching the palace, the commander gave the order. One by one, troops opened fire on the peaceful demonstration; by the end of the gunfire, 10 men lay dead in the snow while dozens crawled away wounded. All across St. Petersburg, the same scenario played again and again; by the end of the day, 96 were dead and 333 were wounded. Upon hearing the news of his soldiers shooting and killing the crowd, the Tsar mourned, “A terrible day… God, how painful and awful!” After public outrage over Bloody Sunday, Nicholas II (1868-1918) issued the October Manifesto, granting civil liberties and...

Bloody Sunday: The Events Of The Civil Rights Movement

...Fifty-three years ago, the events of what became known as “Bloody Sunday” unfolded. “Bloody Sunday” was one of the hundreds of marches that occurred during the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 60s. This movement was also characterized by other acts of nonviolent civil disobedience, such as sit-ins, boycotts, and rallies. The civil rights movement was a human rights movement established in the hopes of ending legalized racial segregation and discrimination laws in the United States. One objective of this movement was to push for legislation to enforce the fifteenth amendment. The fifteenth amendment states that no one could be denied the right to vote because of race, color, or previous condition of servitude. However, this amendment was...

Those Winter Days

...The poem titled "Those Winter Days" by Robert Hayden, the text from the Compact Literature (KIRSZNER & MANDELL), is about a hard working father who expresses the love he has for his son by doing simple things on a sunday morning. The poem is about a lonely father who wakes up on early on a sunday. Typically sunday is supposed to be a resting day, a day when you get to sleep in and relax but not this father. Regardless of that he wakes up early and does and with the hard labor that his hand have experienced throughout the weekday he *lyric poem, free verse *Two themes are love and ingratitude stanza1 Those Winter Sundays" tells about a father from his child's point of view. The first line "Sundays too my father got up early" (Hayden 1) indicates that the father wakes up early everyday, presumably part of his sacrifice to earn a living for his family as head of the household. The rest of the lines in the first stanza paint the picture of a father who, though it is still dark and though he is tired from working most of the week, tends to the fire - a task he takes upon himself and has never received gratitude for. stanza2 The second stanza describes the child getting up, first waking up to the cold then eventually being enveloped by the warmth of the house that his father started. In spite of the warmth, though, he is not eager to get out of bed but rather, tries to delay joining his father, "fearing the chronic angers of that house stanza3 Finally, the last...

Case Study

...THOSE WINTER SUNDAY: ANALYSIS The poem “Those Winter Sunday” by Robert Hayden has the general motif of appreciation using the imagery as one of its primary tools of supporting this motif. The poem was a manly a reflection of the speakers youth. during which the speaker talks about his youth and he/she explains his/her lack of understanding and appreciations of the depth his/her father went through in making sure that the speaker as well as the rest of his/hers family was well taken care of. During the speakers youth he/she held a lot of resentment toward the father, thinking that he/she was the cause of the hardship they faced. in the speakers present day and age the speaker never directly speaks of having its own family but was implied in the last stanza of the poem “love austere and lonely offices”[14]. “Sundays too my father got up early”[1] this first line especially the “Sunday” lets the readers know the depth his/her father worked. The father of the speaker even went as far as to work on Sunday a day that everyone presumably knows as a day of rest. Also letting us know how hard his father worked the speaker stated in the fourth line of the poem “from labor in the weekday weather mad” his father not only worked tireless through the weekday but also thru the weekend. With him working throughout the weekday and weekday the speaker father woke up early and “put his clothes on in the blue black cold” and with him doing this he often woke everyone else in the house causing...

Choose two misunderstandings you experienced and fill out the chart for these. Respond to questions 1 and 2 shown under the chart for each example of a misunderstanding. Another co-worker, Marsha and I had worked that weekend. During our time of working I went to our vending machine and didn’t have enough money for what I wanted so I got a pack of crackers. When I came back I stated that I didn’t have enough money so I got a pack of crackers. She suggested that maybe I took them because I went to the machine and didn’t have enough money to get what I wanted. Who was the sender? Me Who was the receiver? Marsha What was the message? ...Sundays to me are a day of rest. I am a Christian and my religion is to attend church on Sundays and rest in the evenings. Now I’m not going to lie to you, I don’t attend church every single Sunday like I should but I make it when I am not working. I grew up with the tradition of going to church every Sunday but when I turned sixteen that all changed. I had a car and a job to pay for my car. I worked almost every Sunday because I had school during the week and I also played sports like football and rugby which packed my week and made it hard to work on weeknights. Since the age of sixteen I have gone to church on and off and barely at all. This repetitive behavior got me into a habit and when I went off to college I didn’t attend church a single day while I was in college. I was just living the college dream not worrying about a thing. At first it was okay but then it grew on me and especially my parents. They became angry with me and told me that I need to attend church as much as possible. So when I came back from winter break I began to go to church again. So you could say there was some leniency at first but then my parents began to crack down. Sundays have pretty much been the same throughout my entire life and in the end there was some change but not a lot. France has laws that create a day of rest on Sundays. No shops are allowed to be open and no one is allowed to work in their shops. This was made to create a day of rest filled with time for family. Many stores felt this...
