Located in a student residential area, Econo Lodge did not lend itself to drive-by stopovers because of its lack of landscaping, physical amenities etc. Employee quality and their attitudes were low. Maintenance and housekeeping were not prepared to provide anything more than a barely acceptable level of guest satisfaction. The staff they inherited constantly attracted low-life guests. Which is why the front office was protected by bulletproof glasses. TURNAROUND Winner AND FLAG CHANGE of gold award and a nomination for platinum as the only Quality Inn in the United States within 3 years. Repeat business at Boulder Creek was high. It achieved 78% average occupancy compared to 50% for Boulder hotels. Brand Quality Inns and Suites had not been used in the Boulder market. Andrea’s presentation about the dramatic changes earned them the grant to change the brand. Econo Lodge to change to a Quality Inn. PHYSICAL PROPERTY Andrea decided that the century old home should be preserved and enhanced as a historic building. 40 guest rooms and 6 suites were remodelled with upscale lodge furnishings.
