When a college student makes the decision to do an internship, it can be equally rewarding for both parties. Employers may receive a student who may not be “seasoned” however, they can be a key element in assisting the organization's needs. With the economy as it is today, an intern can save the employer money. An intern is not required to be added to the organization's payroll, receive medical insurance or even partake in paid holidays or vacations which are just a few reasons on how an intern can save the employer on employee costs. The organizations that will be using interns need to keep in mind that just because they are using an intern, it can not be done just to save money (Associated Press, 2009). The students return is much more than that of the employer. For instance, some students may get paid for their internship if it is a larger organization that sponsors the internship (University Parent Connection, 2008). While not all interns receive pay, the knowledge gained is worth it. Other benefits the student can receive may be earning college credits, the possibility of job placement upon completion of the internship or graduation and hands on experience. Also, students will learn networking skills. This skill is sometimes overlooked in college, but can certainly be a huge asset to the student. During this time the student is given the opportunity to display what they are capable of achieving, while meeting new people (University Parent Connection, 2008). Because of networking, the student is increasing their chances of being found by potential employers and therefore will expand their opportunities for finding an ideal job (University Parent Connection, 2008).

As mentioned earlier, some internships can be paid especially if the intern is working for a larger organization or if the job training provides professional experience that can further a

...then I would choose that to be obtaining an internship. I believe that internships are a crucial factor to getting students the real world experience that many college students lack coming out of graduation. Most students will get to do an internship but it may not be in the field that they would like to begin a career in. Even then it isn’t pointless but I think they could have put their time into an internship where they felt like they had something to work for or had something to prove. If I had an internship in the field that I one day planned to someday land a career in I would work my hardest every day to prove to the employer that I have what it takes and that I am willing to make sacrifices for the betterment of the company. Internships can help break the loop of college students having no experience because they can’t get a job because they have no experience. NSCS could be a tremendous help to all the chapters around the nation by providing events such as private career fairs, mixers, and different social events that will get students that face to face contact with employers. Being that the members of NSCS are nationally recognized most companies wouldn’t hesitate to give us a chance to prove ourselves in an internship opportunity. This is just one of the many ways that NSCS could help out all of its members across America and I’m sure that there are plenty of others that would agree with my idea. Working side jobs in college is surely nothing to be ashamed about, but...

My major is in accounting and I like to work with numbers, so I believe the Compensation position would be a good starting point for me. I have also been advised that this position is a great HR position to begin with, especially if you want to work your way to the HR Business Generalist position, because you learn a lot about the company and their financing. I would like to be in the Dallas office, because this is Texas Instrument’s main office in the United States and it is where I would meet the most people and learn the most as a recently graduated college student. I want my first job after graduation to be with Texas Instruments in their human resources department. I have recently become interested in human resources and Texas Instruments has a very good HR rotational program. Texas Instruments’ HR department is also very much...

Application

...I am applying Business as my major degree this time. Since I am a very energetic and challenging-like person, learning and working in competitive environment are very appealing to me. The reason for applying business major is very simple. It is no doubt that I have huge passion towards business after I took many business-related courses. In addition, I had gotten more familiar with these kinds of stuff after I did some internship, which provided me a very good opportunity to build my confidence in pursuing business-related jobs after college. In particular, I feel interested in real estate, marketing, and finance areas. Not only I have been almost done all the courses in business major requirement, I am participating in JBS Real Estate Development this summer, which gives me a glimpse and affords me a substantial connection between the college and the work after college. Despite what many believe, business is not only about its glossy brochure, its fancy product, and its precise financial report. It extends to its employees, customers, the media and even the general public. Honestly, I am a kind of person who is eager to work with people, communicate with people and even negotiate with people. Last year, I declared Psychology as one of my major and almost done all requirements as so far. I certainly believe that Psychology and Business are a good combination in knowing how to work with people, and how to get into social networks well in the future. Besides my good academic...

Through my work as an intern at other film companies, the usual activities I performed included answering phone calls, organizing files, and helping out wherever else I was needed whether in the office or on location. I think the main goal of an intern is to just be helpful. Tasks can range from inconsequential to high magnitude, but both are important in order to make a company run smoothly. 2) What makes you stand out as a great candidate for this position? Exploiting Interns

...RUNNING HEAD: Unpaid Internships Exploiting Students: Harsh Reality of Unpaid Internships In the article “Jobs Few, Grads Flock to Unpaid Internships,” Stephen Greenhouse writes about the harsh reality of internships in the United States (2012). Greenhouse, the labor and workforce reporter for The New York Times, explains in his article the specific stories of unpaid interns and lawsuits filed against companies who did not compensate these individuals. The internship programs that Greenhouse reports on oppress both women and men with unfair work expectations and poor opportunities for advancement. With the help of this article and other supporting materials, I will clarify the relationship between these unpaid, exploited students and the material covered in my Women Studies class. In the article, Greenhouse points out that since 1985, the unemployment rate for graduates twenty-four years old and younger has risen 9.4 percent (Greenhouse, 2012). Speculators estimate that this number is increasing so rapidly because of students’ willingness to work for free in internship positions. The article explains this phenomenon stating that many students feel this is the best way to get a foot in the door with a possible future employer. More and more businesses are refusing to hire students who have not completed an internship program. However, Greenhouse explains that even after the completion of an interning program, many students are left uneducated about the type of...

Phone: 206-439-3800 x3839 E-mail: jht@cwu.edu Abstract Internships are a popular element used to enhance accounting education. Although previous studies have considered internships, many have addressed enhancement of subsequent academic and professional performance. The purpose of this paper is broader and examines several characteristics of accounting internships: the frequency of participation, eligibility requirements, process for securing internships, level of participation, availability and amount of academic credit, area of assignments, nature of post-internship requirements, and benefits to students. Two random samples, one in 1998 and one in 2003, of 100 accounting programs were analyzed in the study. For each program selected, the survey was mailed to accounting program administrators. Responses were collected by fax. The results of this study should be of interest to accounting students, faculty program administrators, and practitioners. Gaining real-life knowledge of accounting tasks and obtaining insight regarding career planning were the two most important benefits identified. Future research should consider the perceptions of accounting students and practitioners. Introduction Internships are a popular element of accounting education. Supervised practical...
