In this essay I will be examining the ethical concerns of the communities within a selected business of my choice. I will be examining Tesco ethical concerns of the community. Tesco is one of the largest supermarkets in the UK as they have a price value and quality food. Tesco has even branch out to other countries and now in 12 different countries around the world. The discussion begins with a critical analysis of how these ethical concerns affect local communities. These ethical concerns could be where Tesco produce their food or how they buy their product or who sources their food for Tesco.
We must therefore acknowledge that one of the biggest concerns which many people feel in relation to the issue on how Tesco sources their products. It is increasingly the case that people buy products based on the distance that they have been transported. The amount of packaging they have and the place in which they originated. The influence of poverty has been strongly felt with the fair trade movement receiving considerable support, to the point where the majority of coffee is now fair trade certified at Tesco. All of these are ethical concerns within the different communities on how Tesco operates.
Tesco need to address these issues of having more locally source food this is one of the main concerns of the communities. As it has more chance that it will have less of a carbon footprint and their for more chance that it will have of supporting local industries. Meaning reducing global poverty overall. If Tesco can improve on how they operate when it comes down to sourcing food they have more of a chance in meeting the community’s needs by addressing their ethical concerns. However, more important of all to the ethical considerations of the local people in which Tesco are considerations as to how best to reduce their carbon footprint and assist in the reduction of greenhouse

Ethical Concerns

...P4 & M3 Ethical concerns facing the communities Introduction I will be describing the ethical concerns facing the communities in which Apple oversees. For this part of the assignment I have chosen to continue using Apple as my selected organisation and look at them in more detail for this part of the task. Describe the ethical concerns facing the communities in which the selected business operates. Local communities Many businesses are of national importance and their activities have a crucial significance to local communities. Apple for example is a powerful presence in any community and can have an influence in many different ways. For more than 150 years, the British coalfields offered mining work to the communities around them. However, these communities were scarred for generations, because of them. Mining communities suffered a lot of environmental damage, with ugly slag heaps and, in some coalfields, serious coastal damage. Even today modern businesses leave their mark in many different ways on communities. Despite the environmental and other negative effects, local authorities still welcome new businesses. They bring jobs and cash to areas. When businesses of any size operate within a locality, there are always ethical concerns. Regional and national communities When entire communities go through difficulties, there are regional, and often national, effects. The UK car industry suffered from poor planning, inefficiency and bad industrial relations. The coal industry...

...Subject: P4: Examine the ethical concerns of the communities in which BP operates and M3: Explain the ethical concerns of the communities in which a selected business operates and suggest measures that could be taken to improve corporate responsibility. Introduction: Within this report I will be explaining the ethical concerns for my chosen business BP and I will also be explaining what measurements BP carried out due to their ethical concerns. Some of BP’s ethical concerns: 1) The BP Oil Spill released over 200 million gallons of crude oil in which was pumped into the Gulf of Mexico for around 87 days, making it the biggest oil spill in history. 2) The oil spill caused 16,000 total miles of coastline to be affected, including Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida coasts. 3) The gushing oil was stopped in July 2010; but oil is still washing up on shores, which will cause long-term damages to people and animals living in the area. 4) Over 8,000 animals were reported dead as quick as 6 months after the spill. 5) The oil explosion killed in total 11 people and injured 17 others. Environment concerns 200 million gallons of crude oiled flowed into the Gulf of Mexico in which caused an explosion of the deep-water horizon oil rig. Oil and gas manufacture projects can have major implications on air, water and the wildlife. BP states that they try to diminish the environmental impact from the earliest stages of planning to the dismantling...

Corporate Governance Theories

...CORPORATE GOVERNANCE The need for corporate governance is not something typical to our country or economy .even in countries where regulatory mechanism are more demanding in their content and more vigilant in its implementation. Flagrant violation under the corporate veil have generated the demand for better governance . The advent of information age has created an awakened shareholders , vigilant public and almost predatory journalistic fervour. Depending upon the model of corporate disclosure followed by different legal framework, right to information has forced corporation to divulge more than they ever did. Corporate governance is derived from Latin term ‘corpus’ which means ‘body’. governance means administering the process and system placed for satisfying stakeholders expectations . when the two terms are combined it together brings out set of system procedures , policies , practices , standards put in place by a corporate to ensure that relationship with various stakeholders is maintained in transparent and honest manner. Reasons Behind Csr

...r The ‘real’ reasons behind Corporate Social Responsibility Management Summary With this thesis I would like to contribute on the on-going CSR discussion. I attempt to investigate the real motives why multinational corporations engage in corporate social responsibility activities. The debate in CSR is nowadays still focused on the link between CSR and financial performance. Research lacks real proof of this link and corporations are failing in formulating a business case. So why is it that MNCs are willing to engage in CSR activities. In the following thesis I would like to give an answer on this question. Inhoudsopgave 1. Tobin College of Business, St. John’s University, New York, New York, USA Abstract Purpose – This paper seeks to examine the ethical dilemmas that emerge when offering microfinance services in BOP markets. Design/methodology/approach – Utilizing the ethical lenses of deontology, teleology, virtue ethics and moral relativism, the paper builds on prior research on ethical issues in BOP markets and the ethics of microfinance to highlight the specific stakeholder impacts facing MFIs. Relevant literature and examples from practice are utilized to illustrate the different ethical perspectives. Findings – In general, many of the key dilemmas represent themselves in the extreme poverty segment of the BOP where commercial business models have the least traction. Research limitations/implications – Propositions are developed for the corrective actions in the paper which might allow future research to uncover differences in intervention success in different BOP markets. Practical implications – The discussion of potential interventions for the various stakeholders may ameliorate criticisms of MFIs, suggest opportunities for cross-sectoral partnerships and improve outreach to the poorest of the poor. Social implications – For each issue addressed, this paper looks at the types of corrections that are made or called for through markets...

...Introduction The business as per the generally acceptable notion is a profit making entity and takes into account function of monetary transactions as the criteria measure for the success of its operational activities. Corporate social responsibility in the past is considered as unwanted activities which are imposed on business by law and governing bodies as unnecessary burden which is against the basic principle of profit making for the business organizations. Business organizations have been considered as bodies that meet the demand of the consumers by supplying their goods and services, and have the responsibility for generating wealth and employment opportunities. (Mette Morsing & Carmen Thyssen, 2003) In recent times after the increase in concern about the ecological imbalances and the impact of business on the environment, this above view is however changing and more and more entities are taking corporate social responsibility activities and few of them are also able to align their business goals in order to generate profits. The modern business also debates over the business responsibility towards the Shareholder’s and owners versus Stakeholders (employees, consumers, suppliers and shareholders) in the present day scenario. After taking the consideration of responsibility towards stakeholders, businesses are coming closer to the society and are altering the function of business organizations taking into considerations the business’ wider role. The wider role define...

Research Paper

...CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 BACKGROUND INFORMATION Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a concept entails the practice whereby corporate entities voluntarily integrate both social and environment upliftment in their business philosophy and operations. A business enterprise is primarily established to create value by producing goods and services which society demands. The present-day conception of corporate social responsibility (CSR) implies that companies voluntarily integrate social and environmental concerns in their op¬erations and interaction with stakehold¬ers. The notion of CSR is one of ethical and moral issues surrounding corporate decision making and behaviour, thus if a company should undertake cer¬tain activities or refrain from doing so because they are beneficial or harmful to society is a central question. Social issues deserve moral consideration of their own and should lead managers to consider the social impacts of corporate activities in decision making. Regardless of any stake¬holders’ pressures. However, some arguments that the contri¬bution of concepts such as CSR is just a reminder that the search for profit should be constrained by social considerations (Manuel and Lúcia, 2007) and increasingly CSR is analysed as a source of competitive ad¬vantage and not as an end in itself (Bran¬co and Rodrigues, 2006). In effect, the concept of CSR has evolved from being regarded as detrimental to a company’s profitability, to being considered as some¬how benefiting...
