In essence, Genesis 1-11 lays the foundation for the biblical truth we know today. The natural world is referred to the Lord’s creation. In Genesis 1, God’s existence and the beginning of creation is introduced as the verse reads, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). The chapter continues with a detailed description of the creation of the world in six days by a triune God. From this, God shows us how to conduct our weeks by working six days and then resting on the seventh day. This is where the principle of the Sabbath was established; the verses read, “By the seventh day God had finished the work He had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that He had done” (Genesis 2:2-3).
