Auteur Theory : Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan)

...Auteur Theory: Translated from the French, auteur simply means "author". There have been varied perceptions regarding this theory, its importance and effectiveness. Auteur theory is essentially “a method of evaluating films based on the director’s involvement and input”. The concept of ‘Auteur’ was first introduced by François Truffaut in 1954 in A Certain Tendency in French Cinema.(1) In this work he claimed that film is a great medium for expressing the personal ideas of the director. He suggested that this meant that the director should therefore be regarded as an auteur. According to him, there are three forms in which a director may be regarded as an Auteur. He agreed with André Basin’s idea that the film must be the direct expression of the director’s vision. The second aspect was that the director must be skilled with the camera. He believed the director is to camera as the writer is to pen. Lastly he believed for a director to be considered as an Auteur, he must leave behind a distinctive signature (based on Alexander Astruc’s idea), visually or as an idea in the film. (2) Years later, this concept was reintroduced by Andrew Sarris in 1962, in a publication titled “Notes on Auteur theory” (3). Accordingly, for a director to be considered as an auteur, the director must be well versed with the technical aspects of the film. The director must have a distinct style or a signature that distinguishes his films from the others. The movies must have a theme, an inner meaning...

It is sad how in today’s world, it is all about drinking and partying in songs. With Nicki Minaj singing about the rich and about being Barbie to literally Ke$ha’s song “Die Young”. Though one Artist still has the power to have the real existence of true POP. Ladies and Gentleman introducing! LADY GAGA! Yea right, everyone knows Lady Gaga by her crazy outfits, but they don’t really know what is behind the Burqa of Gaga’s. Lady Gaga by far is the only artist to bring in ART & POP in music itself. While Britney Spears sings about getting to work and about a perfume? Lady Gaga sings about the controversial of Burqas and Fashion around the globe. The Fame, The Fame Monster, Born This Way, and ATPOP has been by far the most influential albums of the decade. Even though people only over looks the charts on how much money the artist makes they lose the opportunity to see what the albums stands for. Bringing the competition of Katy Perry v.s Lady Gaga. Who did better? Who has the best 1st single? Which CD is better? This may seem like a Bias blog, but Lady Gaga made so much impact in many lives. Sports Obermeyer

...SPORTS OBERMEYER Introduction Sports Obermeyer Ltd. is a successful ski apparel company that needs to address logistics related decisions. The company was founded in 1947, by Klaus Obermeyer and it has continued to excel through latest trend spotting resulting in continuous product innovation. Currently the demand forecasting for the products is done by considering the average sales forecasts given by internal members. Postponement techniques were being used (by keeping large amount of greige material) so as to make the supply chain more responsive. In the apparel industry it is becomes necessary that clothing makers and sellers maintain long lead times. In case of Sports Obermeyer, the lead time is approximately 2 years. Such long lead times result in stock-outs of popular items during peak selling periods and leftover stock of not so popular products which eventually are sold at below cost rates. To handle the problem of overstocking of less preferable, Sports Obermeyer can go for promotional campaigns and stimulate the market. But this might also lead to the aggravation of the stock out issues of the popular products. Sports Obermeyer has a limited geographic diversity and a huge product line. ...My first recommendation would be to continue to invest and grow in previously under-penetrated markets. By applying a lot of focus in this area, the company would be able to optimise on the lack of existing focus in the countries, and make a name for themselves worldwide. Burberry have already positioned themselves to be able to do such a thing in China with the acquisition of the Burberry business in China. For about £65m, the Group acquired 50 stores across 30 cities, which had previously been operated by its Hong Kong based franchisee. This acquisition gives the Group control of the Burberry brand in the fastest-growing luxury market in the world. Ten new stores have already been opened since the acquisition, including the brand’s most digitally-advanced flagship in the world in Beijing. Merchandising and inventory initiatives have successfully driven productivity in existing stores, with comparative store sales up about 30% in the second half of the year. By continuing with this focus in China specifically, where they have already had signs of success and growth, the company would be able to build on their brand name and attract new markets throughout China, and also the rest of the Far East as China tends to be a trend setter in that part of the world. This strategy would be a relatively low risk one for Burberry, as they already have the foundations there that are showing success and so, with use of good market research to find out specific locations, this could...

This industry produces the prime ingredient of the famous bird’s nest soup, also used in traditional Chinese medicines and cosmetics. It is an urban industry, using substantial specially designed buildings, that has transformed a number of Indonesian towns. So far there has been little serious research into this phenomenon. The Indonesian government statistical agency (Badan Pusat Statistik) confesses that the industry output, though considerable, is not captured by its GDP estimates. Enquiries are hampered by the secretive behaviour of the practitioners, who jealously guard their trade secrets. The author is an economist/planner who first observed the phenomenon when conducting fieldwork for an urban development project in North Sumatera. He is currently preparing a research project on the subject to be carried out in association with Badan Pusat Statistik. The nests of bird’s nest soup are produced by the genus aerodramus (formerly collocallia)...

It is supposed to dispatch the components to Hong Kong in time to assemble the fridges and air-conditioning units. I have just been reported that there was a fire at our mainland supplier’s factory. For this reason, most of the equipment and electrical components were destroyed and burnt so they could not produce the components. It means the electrical components will be sent in 3 months at the soonest. To deal with the urgent supply’s problem, I suggest immediately finding other temporary suppliers for the coming 3 months in order to keep receiving orders as usual. If we could not find a suitable supplier in very short time, we may need to purchase the components from other firms. Besides, I have started noticing our customers the delay of their orders. For this serious accident, I also start to be concerned with the reliability of our mainland supplier. This kind of serious accident should not be allowed as it will undoubtedly stop the assembly process and affect our daily operation. I am...

...The SARS Epidemic in 2003 Relevant Economics Variables in China SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) was a new infectious disease which was first recognized in late February 2003 and has put the world on alert. This is a respiratory disease in humans which is caused by the SARS corona virus. The virus appears to be highly contagious and fatal. World Health Organization reported that the SARS between November 2002 and July 2003 cause 8,096 known infected cases and 774 deaths (a mortality rate of 9.6%) worldwide on April 21, 2004.
