Strategic Plan
Riordan has some competitive advantages in common with the companies researched last week. Those advantages are: long term relationships with customers and suppliers, and its global and international presence. Since Riordan opened its doors in 1991 it has obtained and retained business relationships with automotive parts manufacturers, aircraft manufacturers, the Department of Defense, beverage makers and bottlers and appliance manufacturers. These long term relationships have been beneficial to the businesses and Riordan. In addition to long-term relationships Riordan has a global and international presence. Currently, the company has an office in Hangzhou, China but it turns out this location is not as beneficial as it once was. The company will be relocating the Hangzhou office to Shanghai, China because it will result in significant cost savings, provide the operations with a more substantial urban infrastructure and will put the company into a better position to market and ship the Chinese products throughout Asia and Europe. Riordan has long term relationships with its clients and has a global presence the company can improve on its innovation and sustainability internally. Improvement of Innovation and Sustainability
There are several competitive strategies Riordan could use to improve innovation and sustainability of business operations both in the United States and in the global market. The departments Riordan should implement are competitive strategies are in the following: Information Technology (IT), Human Resources, and Sales and Marketing. Currently, each regional office is using different computers and has their own main servers, which means that all of the company computers are not talking to each other.

...Strategic Management Process Paper – Week 1 REDACTED MGT-498 REDACTED September 24, 2012 Strategic Management Process Paper Following a strategic management model, Environmental Scanning; Strategy Formulation; Strategy Implementation; & Evaluation and Control are the four basic steps that should be followed to ensure successful outcomes (Wheelen & Hunger, 2010). This is a more defined methodology than what I was trained to use at my last job which was: Plan; Do; Check; Act. Companies need to have processes in place to ensure not only a fair and balanced workload, but those internal and external variants are considered, plans can be developed, action initiated on the objectives of the plan, and the performance indicators can be measured against beginning expectations. Duplication of efforts is common in the workplace for companies that do not have the systems that clearly layout expectations. Utilizing the SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, & Threats are part of the gathering process (Wheelen & Hunger, 2010). Natural, social, and work environments of external influences are all part of what needs to be considered. The composition of the company, customs of key players and associates, and wherewithal are internally relevant to having a successful plan. When formulating the plan, outputs feed directly into the next input. Why we are doing thus; what should be expect; how do we reach the goals outlined; and what practices or policies do...

Strategic Management Process Paper

...Strategic Management Process Anthony Yon MGT/498 January 20, 2015 Strategic Management Process The successfulness of an organization longevity is reliant on the decisions and actions that management makes. These decision and actions include internal environmental scanning, external environmental scanning, strategic formulation, strategic implementation, evaluation, and control (University of Phoenix, 2015). These elements are relatable to the strategic management process. An example of Wal-Mart's strategy process will be covered in this reading as well. The strategic management process and why it is necessary for a company will be the covering elements of this paper (University of Phoenix, 2015). Environment Scanning Environmental scanning is a systematic process that interprets and surveys critical information to identify threats and external opportunities. An organization collects data internally, its competitors and the outer world. A company should then take the collection of data and readjust its strategies when the need is suitable. Gathering information about the world in which the business operates, focusing on competitors, and internally scan the organization is the key steps to conducting an environmental scan (Society for Human Resource Management, 2015). Strategy Formulation Strategy is a roadmap to business success and within that strategy, is strategy formulation. Strategy formulation is the process of developing the actual plan. A series of...

...Travis Ririe Ethics Paper MGT/498 Kathleen Collins Introduction Understanding the role of ethics and social responsibility when developing a strategic plan are essential to a company’s ultimate success in both the short and long-term. The ethics of a company and the stance it takes in terms of social responsibility will help define how its decisions will be made. All stakeholders within the company will need to decide what type of an organization the company will be when developing a strategic plan because the organization will ultimately be judged by it once a stance and decision have been made. This could potentially leave a positive or negative impact on the company depending upon its ethical stance and how well the organization manages its public relations communications as the need arises. Stakeholders When considering the ethics and social responsibility of an organization, the organization should consider the effects such decisions will have on the stakeholders. Stakeholders are both internal and external people or organizations that will be affected by the decisions and strategic plans of the company. Stakeholders can be people or companies invested in the company, employees, and even consumers. The agenda of all these people and groups need to be considered when deciding what is ethical and socially responsible for the company because all of these people are invested in the success and failure of the company. These stakeholders also want to be properly represented...

...Environmental Scan Paper MGT/498 December 10, 2014 Dr. Pamela Linden Environmental Scan Paper Environmental scanning plays a critical role in the strategic management planning process. The environmental scan provides important information, which may be useful in forecasting changes for the future. Environmental scanning is, “the monitoring, evaluation, and dissemination of information from the external and internal environments to key people within the organization.” (Wheelen and Hunger, Ch.4, Sec. 4.1) Managers scan the internal environment for strengths and weaknesses and the external environment for opportunities and threats. Strengths and weaknesses can be found within the company structure, as well as the employee pool. Scanning the external environment can expose the company to opportunities not yet taken advantage of by other companies. This external scan can also bring light to threats from other organizations in respect to products, services, and costs. ...ork2012 - 2013 Catalog A Message from the President “Sullivan University is truly a unique and student success focused institution.” I have shared that statement with numerous groups and it simply summarizes my basic philosophy of what Sullivan is all about. When I say that Sullivan is “student success focused,” I feel as President that I owe a definition of this statement to all who are considering Sullivan University. First, Sullivan is unique among institutions of higher education with its innovative, career-first curriculum. You can earn a career diploma or certificate in a year or less and then accept employment while still being able to complete your associate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree by attending during the day, evenings, weekends, or online. Business and industry do not expand or hire new employees only in May or June each year. Yet most institutions of higher education operate on a nine-month school year with almost everyone graduating in May. We remained focused on your success and education, and continue to offer our students the opportunity to begin classes or to graduate four times a year with our flexible, year-round full-time schedule of classes. If you really want to attend a school where your needs (your real needs) come first, consider Sullivan University. I believe we can help you exceed your expectations.
