...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-bsOKd3jLE http://factsanddetails.com/china.php?itemid=276 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRv_HlXOZFw Yao Ming is the first Chinese player to have a major impact in th N.B.A. and the first Chinese athlete to become an international superstar. Standing 7-foot-6-inch (2.29-meters) tall and wearing size 18 shoes, he was drafted No. 1 by the Houston Rockets and made the N.B.A. All-Star team his rookie year. Yao was selected to the NBA All-Star team eight times. He averaged 19 points and 9.2 rebounds during his NBA career. More importantly, his impact expanded the NBA's influence in Asia into lucrative merchandise sales and TV ratings.  Yao is China’s first global sports superstar with a personal brand valued at more than $1 billion. Even after his retirement he remains one of the most popular celebrities in China. When U.S. President Barrack Obama addressed a meeting of Chinese-American business leaders he predictably quoted the Confucian sage Mencius but also quoted Yao Ming : “No matter whether you need are new or an old team member, you need time to adjust to one another.” In seven NBA seasons Yao has averaged 19.1 points and 9.3 rebounds (2010)/ In 2007 Yao was named an NBA All-Star for the sixth time. In the 2005-2006 season he was the top All-Star vote getter ahead of Kobe Bryant. He essentially carries his team, which often goes on losing streaks when he is injured.  Yao is regarded as one of the hardest working players in the...

Min & Body

...Section A  1. Summary of “Bad stress, good stress”  “Bad stress, good stress” is an article, in The Times 2005, by Sacha Bonsor. The article deals with how to handle stress. Sacha Bonsor writes that stress has become common in modern parlance. In 2004, stress had cost the UK economy £13.5 billion. Dr. Ray also says that, the number of organizations contacting his charity to seek advice, has increased significant. Stress is, by definition, the way people react when they have a lot of pressure or other demands placed on them. Pursuant to Dr. Frank Bond, nobody likes the feeling of stress. But those who deal best with it, he says, have a high level of “psychological flexibility”. They put them selves in terrible situation to follow their goals.  When people are stressed, they really mean that they are afraid of feeling afraid or looking stupid, Dr. Frank Bond says. According to lecture Clare Harris, the big problem is to recognize stress. If you want to live a long and healthy life, you may not avoid stress to either mind or body.  2. Outline of the various stress-related problems.  Stress is claimed guilty in many problems. Some of those problems are e.g. family problems. Text three, “Stress relief” an internet article 2007, deals with family problems. “There is so much to do, and not enough time to do it all.” It tells that families have trouble to make the day function. We have no stress relief in sight, because we work harder than before . Stress can also leave us exhausted...

Min Wage

...Chris Miller Final Paper Guy Thorvaldsen 11/23/12 “Minimum Wages Should Be Raised” With one of the worst recession’s in the past decade, I guarantee that almost every single person in this country has been impacted by it, state and federal leaders are focusing on getting this economy back on track and helping working families ends meet. Raising min. wage is a key strategy in the recovery of is this economy. By boosting the wages for the working class on which they are relying most on, will not only restore the consumer spending that powers our country but will help other small businesses grow along with the hard worker men and women working those jobs, and most Americans will be able to come out of debt. Most Republicans and many Democrats oppose a rise in the minimum wage. Some economists believe it should be abolished altogether; in other words, businesses would be able to pay $1 or $7 per hour if they wanted, assuming they could find people to hire at the specified rate. According to the BLS In 2011, 73.9 million American workers age 16 and over were paid at hourly rates, representing 59.1 percent of all wage and salary workers. Among those paid by the hour, 1.7 million earned the exact minimum wage of $7.25 per hour. About 2.2million had wages below $7.25. 3.8 million workers with the wages at or below the federal level made up 5.2 percent of all hourly paid workers. There are 300 million people in the United States and approximately 80 million people get...

Min. Wage

...Minimum Wage Increase The nationwide protest on the pay increase began in 2012 while occupy Wall Street was still going on. The New York Communities for Change began to show the struggles of low-income New Yorkers, since then it has snowballed into a protest that has gone through all states in the country. In 190 cities and thousands of low-income workers are protesting to increase the wage to $15 dollars an hour as soon as possible. Protesters took to the streets of New York City and 200 other American cities on tax day, April 15th. They chanted "Fight for $15 on 4/15!" (NEW YORK TIMES) It began with fast-food and retail workers fighting for the 15, but other areas of the work field began to join the movement. Workers that joined the movement were “retail employees at dollar and convenience stores, home health care aides and airport workers who handle baggage, push wheelchairs or clean planes.” (USA TODAY) This becomes a bigger issue because the presidential election is right around the corner and many candidates hope to get some significant work done on the matter. The problem that arises when increasing minimum wage is that smaller business lose out in a great deal of money, profits goes down, more layoffs, and reduced hours increase. The president is trying to increase the federal minimum wage from 7.25 to 10.10 by 2016, but it isn’t making progress because of congress. That does not stop the states from making changes, as of 2015, 29 states minimum wage are above the federal...

Drafts were prepared by two members (P.L.E. and R.J.Z.) and were based on a comprehensive Medline literature search from 1970 through 2001, augmented by suggestions from other committee members. Each draft responded to comments from the working committee. The guidelines follow previously published methods as closely as possible and provide a rationale for each specific recommendation. The basic concept of the cloud is that you can upload your documents or whatever you need and use them later no matter where you are located. As you can see from the name it is about music or sounds. Tian And Min Quotes

...By depicting the ghosts as idealized versions of Tian and Min, Chang argues that these ghosts are inflicted with an insatiable desire to ameliorate the wrong deeds they committed during their lifetimes. Throughout the novel, Tian’s history is often brought up since his actions convey the longing he has to rekindle relationships with his family. Ruth notices how “Tian’s specifications – the chopsticks, the breakfast food, the placement of lamps” were blunders of his willpower to forget those who disowned him (29). These errors represent how Tian is unable to forget his past due to his unbreakable loyalty to his family. This loyalty can also be seen through Tian’s meticulous, painstaking efforts to mold Ruth into the perfect violinist. Ruth’s “days were filled with school and practicing, carrying some...

Two Million Min

...Saprina Brown Journal 2 MILLION MINUTES ESSAY 2 million minutes is a film that argues that U.S. students are performing at or under average in math and science in comparison to China and India. The title of this film indicates the amount of minutes in a four-year time frame. They reference the two million minutes that the students will endure during the last four years of high school before entering a university or the workforce. This documentary follows students in all three countries and compares and contrasts their daily curriculum and what the students value most. The American school that is documented is Carmel high school. This is just a coincidence and not related to the close proximity of this school. They show that U.S. kids are not working nearly as hard as students in developing countries. This movie shows that American kids are slackers but still receive good grades. They have more opportunities than most other kids around the world and do not work nearly as hard as others. The movie explains that the kids in the United States are spoiled and already rich while the other kids in China and India have to work hard to break out of their caste system. The students in China and India explain to the film crew that they are studying 24/7 and work harder than American students. They state that students in the United States have more fun than they do and are pushed harder to do better in school. They are driven from the time they are in first grade to strive...

Hae Min Lee Case Study

...The likable, athletic ex boyfriend of Hae Min Lee is innocent of the charges of murdering her. It's clear that Jay murdered Hae Min Lee, and blamed it on Adman Syed to cover himself. Jays story had many holes in it. There are three key elements in this case that prove Adam Syed's innocence. The first way is how Syed talked about his relationship with Lee, second Jay's story, and third the way Jay blamed Adman. The first piece of evidence that proves Syed's innocence is the way he talked about his relationship with Lee. On more than one occasion Syed stated that "He cared about Lee, wouldn't want to hurt her, and wasn't obsessed with her" (Serial). His own lawyer said he had "brown eyes like a dairy cow, how could someone who looked like...

Hae Min Lee Guilty

...“Monsters are real, and ghosts are real too. They live inside us, and sometimes, they win”(King, Stephen). On February 9th, 1999, the body of 19 year old Hae Min Lee was found in Leakin Park, Baltimore, Maryland. Adnan Syed, her ex boyfriend, is accused of strangling Hae Lee at a local Best Buy. Although the defense believes Jay, accessor to the crime, is not credible due to the constant change in story, the truth is, if he was guilty why would he willingly confess to the crime. Adnan Syed is rightfully convicted for the murder of his girlfriend, Hae Min Lee, because of the inconsistent evidence. One reason Adnan is guilty is because the cell phone records corroborates with where the body was found. In her podcast Serial, Sarah Koenig states,“Dana sent this gripping testimony to two different engineering professors, one at...
