Personality Analysis: Dispositional and Learning Theories
The revision and analysis of personalities provides a restored knowledge for human behaviors and the progression in which individuals understand. Theorists had endeavored for a long time realizing further theoretical methodology. Gordon Allport researched the personalities of people for the reason that that methodology provide further meaning or characterization to individual distinctiveness and give emphasis to the distinctiveness of the person (Feist & Feist,
2009). Depicting a person with universal personality merely categorize individuals as a crowd or group. Nevertheless, Allport alleged to exactly distinguish an individual is through the means of being familiar with the individuals as personal.
Individuality shows each individual be distinct and unique, no one person is alike in a way; for the reason that individuals have distinctive personalities and the capabilities to understand is atypical as well. Albert Bandura’s social cognitive theory observed the behavior in which individuals understand. Observational learning tolerates individuals to find out lacking actions or responsibilities (Feist & Feist, 2009). Principally people do find out through own encounters although learn as well from looking at different job and achievements of other people. Generally significant reasons which supply the respond to queries could be established by means of these kinds of research and development.
Dispositional Theories and Personalities
Allport started his study of personal psychology by means of presenting his morphogenic science. Morphogenic science is the research of a person, collecting data, and vital information concerning the person. Allport’s

A group of such scientists believed that neglecting the study of the individual and focusing only on groups and behavioral generalities did a disservice to the individuality of every person (Feist & Feist, 2009). Gordon Allport was at the forefront of these scientists and emphasized the uniqueness of the individual (Feist & Feist, 2009). Allport and his dispositional theory, believed that people may display like characteristics, stubbornness, for example, but that two individuals displaying stubbornness are displaying differences of the same trait since, in the end, no two people are alike (Feist & Feist, 2009), and believed that using a person’s personal writings – letters, journals, or diaries – could provide a unique view of such individual uniqueness (Barenbaum, 1997). Individuality means just that – that each person is unique, distinctive, and unlike any other. Personalities are distinctive, belief systems are individual, and thought process unique. Albert Bandura’s social cognitive theory observed we are each singular moral agents, capable of influencing our lives within the constructs of social mechanisms (Bandura, 2001)...

Learning Personality Theories

...Personality Theory Analysis Jolie Gerding Theories of Personality PSY/405 August 10, 2015 Patti Tolar Personality Theory Analysis The personality theories that will be analyzed in this paper are dispositional theories and learning theories. The role that the personality has in affecting situational behavior will be addressed. In addition it will examine and discuss the personality characteristics attributed to both dispositional and learning theories. Finally this paper will explain the interpersonal relational aspects associated with both dispositional theories and learning theories. Personality and Situational Behavior The psychology of personality seeks to understand the whole person and the dimensions of difference which allow them to be distinguished from other individuals psychologically. To do this, personality psychologists look at the different aspects that development, cognitive, social and biological experiences lend to the make-up of the individual’s personality (Funder, 2001). Walter Mischel conducted a variety of experiments regarding personality and how situational experiences affect an individual’s behavior. Mischel believed that behavior was, in large part, a function of the current situation that a person is experiencing (Feist, Feist, & Roberts, 2013). Believing “that the relative influence of situation variables and personal qualities can be determined by observing the uniformity or diversity of people’s responses” (Feist, Feist, &...

Dispositional and Learning Theories

...Personality Analysis: Dispositional and Learning Theories Analysis of personalities helps to give a better understanding for human behaviors and the process in which people learn. Theorists have worked for years discovering new theoretical approaches. Gordon Allport studied the personalities of individuals because that approach gave more definition to individuality and emphasized the uniqueness of the individual (Feist & Feist, 2009). Describing an individual with general traits only classifies people as a group. However, Allport believed to accurately know a person is by knowing the person as an individual. Individuality makes people different, no one person is the same; because people have different personalities the abilities to learn will be different too. Albert Bandura’s social cognitive theory observes the manners in which people learn. Observational learning allows people to learn without performing actions or tasks (Feist & Feist, 2009). Basically people do learn from direct experiences but also learn from observing various tasks and actions by others. Most important the factors that give the answers to questions can be found through these forms of research and development. Dispositional Theories and Personalities Allport began his research of individual psychology by introducing his morphogenic science. Morphogenic science is the study of an individual, gathering information, and important data about the individual. Allport’s approach to personality theory...

It’s the part of us that makes us who we are. Since the very start, people at large have been making an attempt to grasp each other, and it is with theoretical rationalization that we come virtually close to doing this. Personality theories, overall, are tries created by psychologists and philosophers throughout time to put understanding into something so superficially non-understandable as the huge expanse of the human temperament. Personality Theory Analysis

...Personality Theory Analysis Jesica Peterson PSY405 August 10, 2015 Patti Tolar Personality Theory Analysis There is no one single definition of personality; however, there are many different theories on how they develop. The description of personality given by Feist, Feist, and Roberts is that “personality is a pattern of relatively permanent traits and unique characteristics that give both consistency and individuality to a person’s behavior” (p.4). Many different theorists have taken their own approach to this description and developed different theories as to why and how personality develops in each individual. Throughout this paper the two theories that will be discussed are Dispositional and Humanistic theories of personality. Dispositional Theory of Personality Dispositional theories of personality hold the assumption that each individual possess stable, long-lasting dispositions in order to portray specific behaviors (Westmont College, 2002). The dispositions that each person has appear in various and diverse situations. The display of disposition can help predict behaviors in future situations (Westmont College, 2002). Each individual has a different set of dispositions that imply uniqueness in that individual (Feist, Feist, & Roberts, 2013). Gordon Allport was a theorist who was best known for his trait theory of personality (Cherry, n/d). He developed his theory by searching through the dictionary for words that seemed to describe personality...

...MOTIVATION, BEHAVIOR, AND PERFORMANCE IN THE WORKPLACE I. INTRODUCTION Motivation is a subject that has long interested researchers and practitioners seeking to understand human behavior and performance. Over the course of the 20th century and into the new millennium, scholars have developed sweeping theories and have amassed large bodies of applied research investigating motivation across a variety of settings. Motivation has been studied in schools, the workplace, government, and athletic competitions, to name but a few contexts. It has been studied at the level of the individual, the group, and the organization. Some motivation researchers have employed cognitive models, which emphasize the role of thought processes in determining motivation and behavior, while other researchers have adopted non-cognitive paradigms, which focus on factors such as personality traits, affective states, and environmental determinants. This paper focuses specifically on research about motivation and behavior in the workplace. It discusses motivation theory, which has broad applicability across contexts, as well as the empirical research conducted in workplace contexts. In reviewing this literature, particular emphasis is placed on research about motivation and behavior as they relate to individual performance. A central aim of motivation research is to explicate the complex relationships that exist among motivation, behavior, and performance—such knowledge is critical for managers tasked with...

Introduction to Personality

...Introduction to Personality Paper University of Phoenix Psy 405 Introduction to Personality Paper Personality is unique to each individual. Every individual has their own traits and characteristics that make up who they are. Personality comes from the Latin persona, which refers to a theatrical mask worn by Roman actors in Greek dramas (Feist & Feist, 2009, p. 3). These Romans wore the mask or persona to project a false appearance. Of course, personality psychologists do not accept this definition. When psychologists talk about personality they refer to something different than role play. There is no definite definition for personality, but different theorists say that personality is a pattern of permanent traits and exclusive characteristics that give stability and individuality to a person’s behavior. Traits provide individual differences in behavior, consistency of behavior over time, and stability of behavior beyond situations. A person has unique qualities called characteristics that involve intelligence, temperament, and physical appearance (Feist & Feist, 2009). Altogether, the definition of personality implies, “…a pattern of relatively permanent traits and unique characteristics that give both consistency and individuality to a person’s behavior” (Feist & Feist, 2009, p. 4). An ample explanation of the psychological understanding of personality is coming in the development of the theoretical approaches in the study of personality. There are...

Abnormal Psychology

...SUMMARY * Abnormal psychology is the branch of psychology that studies unusual patterns of behavior, emotion and thought, which may or may not be understood as precipitating a mental disorder. * The field of abnormal psychology identifies multiple causes for different conditions, employing diverse theories from the general field of psychology and elsewhere, and much still hinges on what exactly is meant by "abnormal". * There has traditionally been a divide between psychological and biological explanations, reflecting a philosophical dualism in regards to the mind body problem. * There have also been different approaches in trying to classify mental disorders. * Abnormal includes three different categories, they are: * subnormal * supernormal * paranormal * The science of abnormal psychology studies two types of behaviors: * Adaptive behavior * Maladaptive behavior * Clinical psychology is the applied field of psychology that seeks to assess, understand and treat psychological conditions in clinical practice. * The theoretical field known as 'abnormal psychology' may form a backdrop to such work, but clinical psychologists in the current field are unlikely to use the term 'abnormal' in reference to their practice. * Psychopathology is a similar term to abnormal psychology but has more of an implication of an underlying pathology, and as such is a term more commonly used in the medical specialty...
