...stone of the corner posts of timber prototypes; however this idea is very controversial. For example, the Romanesque church at Kilmalkedar Co, Kerry provides us with some insight into the skeuomorphic package designs which includes “stone copies of end rafters, finials, and shingles in the form of small, carefully squared blocks of stone.” (O Carragain) This particular church holds high significance and has more skeuomorphic design elements than any other church found. The complex arrangement has also been found in Norwegian stave churches. Kilmalkedar shows detail of both antae and a stone roof in the northern most corner, and unusual finding. It appears as if there are skeuomorphs of bipartite wall plates, and eaves in between the corner post and end rafters. The eave course may indicate that that this was based off of a wooden roof of Romanesque type, where the triangular roof frames extend beyond the lateral walls of the building. Moving on, according to chapter one of Ó Carragáin’s report, and the Book of Kells, there has been recordings of a distinctive outwards thrust in some early medieval churches found throughout Denmark and various other countries in continental Europe. The tresses found in these particular churches are not necessarily common in Ireland, but there is a similarity that is worth mentioning. When contrasting the antae as antae we notice that it is a very common feature across many varieties of architecture. For example, Arthur Champneys believed...

...Granbury has seen its share of mysteries over the years, but the town's property owners know that Alpha Roofing can at least solve the mystery of where to find quality, affordable roofing services. Alpha provides an extensive range of services to businesses and homeowners in Granbury, including metal roof installations, flat roof replacements, asphalt shingle installations, roof repairs, siding installations, chimney repairs, maintenance plans, gutter installations, metal fabrication, hail/wind damage inspections and repairs, attic insulation and moss and debris removal. (-- removed HTML --) The History of Granbury (-- removed HTML --) The town of Granbury was little more than a log courthouse and a town square when it was founded. Land for the new town consisted of a 40-acre donation from brothers Jake and Jesse Nutt, early settlers who had arrived in the area in the late 1850s. Abel Landers, the Nutt's uncle, was the first elected county judge after Hood County was formed in 1866, and in a controversial affair, Landers overturned three elections for the selection of the county seat. After much political wrangling, the decision was made to build a new town — Granbury — to serve as the county seat. Many historians believe that Landers deliberately manipulated matters so that his nephews' land would increase in value as the county seat expanded and prospered....

Building defect will also reduce the value and the function of a building. There are many types of building defect such as cracking, dampness, spalling, peeling paint, insect or termite attack, corrosion, fungus stain and so on. These building defect can affect the performance and the appearance of the building. Building defect can occur either because of poor design, or low quality workmanship, or because the building was not constructed according to the design, or use of inferior materials. When a building facing defects, the causes of that defect have to identified before any remedial work can be undertaken to remedial it. Therefore, we are required to investigate the building defect of a building. We also have to identify the possible cause of the building defect which occur in that building. We have choose the building of Guest House to make our case study and survey. This building is located at Universiti Sains Malaysia, Pulau Pinang. ...Roofing Systems: Ceramic Roof Tiles The use of ceramic roofing tiles has been traced back to as early as 3,000 B.C. and has maintained its existence as a preferred choice for a roofing system because of its latent thermal properties and durability, not to mention its aesthetic appearance (History of Clay Tile). There are a vast quantity of profiles of ceramic, or clay, roofing tiles that include but are not limited to flat, Imbrex and tegula, Roman, pantiles, mission or barrel, and interlocking tiles. Flat clay roofing tiles are the simplest form and are laid in regular, overlapping rows. Imbrex and tegula refer to the ancient Roman pattern of curved and flat tiles that make rain channels on a roof to aid in water run-off. Roman ceramic tiles are flat in the middle with a concave curve at one end and a convex curve at the other to allow interlocking. Pantiles contain an S-shaped profile to allow interlocking and are known for their more rigid pattern, while mission or barrel style clay tiles have a semi-cylindrical mold. Lastly, interlocking tiles are similar to pantiles but have side and top-locking features to improve protection from the elements, especially water and wind (Wikipedia). The installation of ceramic roofing tiles should always be done by professionals and the price varies due to region, installer and job in its entirety. Complex installations for difficulties such as steep slopes, multiple level configurations and skylights will increase the price of...

...the Earth, thereby simplifying the geometry required to track the sun’s daily and annual motion. • To provide a stable platform, that is able to carry the load of the Panels, batteries, motors, etc., above it. • To provide a secure connection to the roof itself, and withstand any external force placed upon either itself or the apparatus placed above it. • To provide a integrated weatherproof housing for the key components, such as motors, batteries and electronics • Provide a connection path for the electrical circuitry between the solar panel, solar storage batteries and the mains supply inside the house. In conjunction with the rest of the project, the design for this section must combine elegance, simplicity and efficiency. This section of the design is the main interface between the house and the rest of the Rooftop Solar Tracker. It was therefore very important that a clear understanding of how domestic roofs are constructed was established before the key design decisions were undertaken. It is also important to point out at this stage that since the solar panel is clearly stated as intended for domestic use alone, the roof attachment system was designed with a domestic house in mind. The complete design for the Roof attachment and Platform system is shown...

...Sales Skills and Process Report Sales Skills and Process Report I began my search for a carport by looking and three different companies for variations in quality of materials used for construction and price. This structure is ultimately going to be used as a barn for horses. I found what I wanted at Midway Motors in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Midway Motors is a dealer who prepares orders for their customers. I already knew some information about the carport Midway had for sale because I had a brochure and I also did some research on the internet before I went to talk to a sales person. This report is based on the purchasing of a carport. Probing Questions: Open ended and close ended I told the sales person I was looking for a carport to use as a beginning structure for a horse barn. To relieve my uncertainty and doubt about this product the sales person then informed me these structures are very popular in our area for the purpose I want to use it for. I was given basic general information about the product which is the dimensions of the carport which are 18 x21x 6 including overhung boxed eaves. Additionally, there are also thirteen different colors to choose from. The salesman also gave me an initial cost for the size structure I wanted. Customer Pain/Needs and Quantitative Questions: I wanted to know the price of the carport because I have a limited budget. I also wanted upgrades or options to increase the sturdiness of the structure. I also needed to have the...

...Ananian -Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. 30 September 2010 1. INTRODUCTION Underlayment products for use beneath metal panel roof systems should be carefully selected to provide a roofing system that performs satisfactorily for its intended service life. Several considerations must be addressed in the roofing system design, including ensuring that the four barriers needed in any building enclosure (Le., water barrier, thermal insulation barrier, vapor retarder, and air barrier) are provided and are in the correct location for a given climate. Long term, in-service roof performance can be affected by several important factors including: the metal roofing system and its expected service life, the climate at the building location, roof slope and geometry, and ambient conditions (temperature/relative humidity) within the building. Improper selection of the roof underlayment may allow roof leakage or entrap moisture due to vapor diffusion or air exfiltration, which may accelerate deterioration of concealed components, shortening their service life and necessitating repairs. Further, to provide longevity the underlayment should match the intended service life of the metal roofing system. Although there is no universal design that applies to all buildings, this paper attempts to clarify many of the issues involved in selecting appropriate metal roof underlayment materials, and provides guidelines to builders who are responsible for constructing metal roofing systems. In general...

...A leaky roof can cause cosmetic damage as well as structural damage to your home. This damage often includes stained ceilings and damaged sheetrock. Damaged sheet rock can cause peeling paint, saggy or fallen ceilings. When damage occurs to the sheetrock, it must be removed. The following article explains how to remove damaged sheetrock and replace it with new sheetrock. Removing Sheetrock Damaged sheetrock is easily removed with a few simple tools. These tools include a sheetrock saw, a drill, a screwdriver and a straightedge. A sheetrock saw cuts the damaged sheetrock while leaving the remaining sheetrock intact. Unlike a circular saw, a sheetrock saw does not create a lot of dust. The drill is used to attach the sheetrock to the studs...

... How To Choose Gutter Guards And Have Them Installed The gutters on your home do a very important job. They divert water away from your foundation where it could potentially do a lot of damage. However, the gutters have to be in good working order for them to do their job properly. Gutters clogged up with leaf dams or bird nests will overflow rather than drain water through the downspout. One way to keep your gutters clean so they don't overflow is to have gutter guards installed. Here are a few tips for getting these guards on your home. Choose The Best Type Of Gutter Guard Different manufacturers make different kinds of gutter guards. When choosing the ones you want to have installed, consider the type of debris that gets inside your gutters. If you have trees with broad leaves, then most any guard system will work. However, if you have trees that drop tiny pine needles or seeds, then you'll want to choose a gutter guard that keeps them out. Some guards are made from wire screen or plastic mesh. The openings in these guards may be too wide to be effective if your home is surrounded by pine trees. You can choose guards that sit on top of the gutters or guards that fit inside. Either type can be effective at keeping out leaves while letting rain water filter through. The guards aren't easily seen from the ground, so appearance isn't a deciding factor. Instead, choose your guards based on how well they'll keep out the needles, seeds, and other debris that usually fills your...
