As I read Lake, A., & Von Baeyer, C. (2005). article, " Tips for Successful Students. "
Retreived fromhttp://homepage.usask.ca/~clv022/success.htm. I reviewed the characteristics of what it takes to become a successful student, and I feel that most of these traits listed in the article, I possess and utilize in my everyday life, at home, work, with family, friends, and colleagues, but if I had to choose one that is my strongest trait and one that would benefit me in being a successful student throughout this program. I definitely would have to say my strongest trait is that I am a very motivated and goal oriented person, who has a strong sense of self determination. I feel there is always room for self improvement and self growth. I welcome challenges that make me think outside of the box, that challenge me intellectually, utilize my critical thinking skills to problem solve or to formulate a solution or a new idea. Some of the reasons why I feel being goal oriented is my strongest quality are challenges that I have overcome in my life such as; successfully completing my nursing school program, being a new nurse and going above and beyond for my patients and peers my efforts were rewarded and I was promoted to charge nurse, the present job that I have been at for about 1.5 years I have been given the role of training new hires and have been chosen to work on various projects to streamline work flows that will ultimately improve education and teaching methods to the medicare population. For the above stated accomplishments this is why I feel my strongest trait is being a motivated, goal oriented person. I believe being goal oriented gives you a do what it takes attitude, but knowing that we all have limitations, I sometimes have to remind myself to take a time out. I believe my enthusiastic and positive attitude will show I can and will be a successful student. I am

Competency Differences Between Adn and Bsn

...A good student demonstrates both in-born and learned characteristics, which makes him/her successful. Though characteristics such as cognitive skills and intelligence are in-born and play a major role in making a student successful, academic achievement demands other characteristics too. Reviewing the lecture and “Tips for Successful Students” by Lake and von Baeyer reveal that characteristics such as effort, attitude, curiosity, preparation, communication, time management, and goal setting are some of the important factors which determine academic success of a student. My strongest characteristic as a good student is academic resilience which I believe is my determination to persevere at academic tasks no matter how tough the situations are. I never give up even if I experience frustration or make errors while encountering difficult tasks or while learning something new. I always fight to master the new skills which help me in academic success. This characteristic is important because it is not based on innate talent or intelligence, but what it takes is the fortitude to learn. Encouraging students by teaching them not to give up during hard times will promote academic resilience, which in turn make them competent, confident, and successful students. In my opinion my academic resilience will be of great help for this program because as a student of online class, I should be a dedicated and goal-oriented self starter and I can expect several obstacles which are out of my control...

I know that I can succeed because I am motivated (Ellsworth, 1997). Some concepts and ideas are not always understood by me but I have found that I can begin to understand by reading, doing my assignments, and asking questions. Discouragement sometimes comes to me when things are not going exactly as I would like but I keep trying. This helps me to stay encouraged even in times when I want to quit or give up. I press ahead and stay positive. Although leadership may come calling without request, more often it comes to those who prepare for it by planning their careers (Andolsen, 2008). Walden

...Abiel Castrejon August 8, 2015 WEEK FOUR ASSIGNMENT 2 Many people have started taking online classes instead of going to traditional school. It is my first time taking an online class. I was nervous about it because I did not know if it was going to be the same as having a professor lecture or learn from just reading articles. I also was nervous about it because I am doing the medical doctor program and was wondering if I would have enough time actually to do well in Walden. It is week four, almost five, out of six in my first online class. As of today, I have an A in my first online Walden class. I see myself as a person who is determined to achieve its goals. To keep being successful, I have to promise myself to keep organizing my time well since time management is the key to everything. Also, it is very nice to know that I am not alone because I am surrounded by many people who are part of the Walden Community. I am always interacting with everybody in the Walden Community, my advisor, professor, and classmates to name a few. When reading Tool-Using Animals, an online slide show by Rachel VanCott, made me think how animals have found a way to make their life much easier by using tools. For example, chimpanzees using long sticks to get termites, the sea otter uses a stone to open up sea urchins, and the veined octopus using a coconut shell as a refuge. We humans have also used tools to make our lives easier, and as time passes by, those tools become more sophisticated...

Online Learning Success

...In today’s society, so many people are continuing their education beyond high school. We realize that in order to make a decent living, a degree is most likely a requirement. In some cases even a bachelor’s degree is not enough to qualify for many positions. Nevertheless, thanks to technology, we now have the option to learn online or in a traditional classroom setting. There are very few differences between the two, and students need to understand that as much time and energy will need to be devoted to the online courses as on a campus. “A 2010 meta-analysis and review of online-learning studies concluded that online learning was as good as or slightly more effective than traditional face-to-face instruction” (Mendenhall, 2011). Therefore, there is no question as to whether or not success can be obtained from this nontraditional way of learning. Nevertheless, students who chose to study online should be extremely disciplined. There are many tools that one needs to be successful in school and in every aspect of their life. Of course, some people need different things from others. However, I will point out a few that I feel are very important, and that I will use in my daily life. As an online learner and an administrative assistant, I have found that you should be equipped with great organizational, time management and communication skills in a quest for success. Some people have excellent organization skills, whereas others may struggle with getting organized. It is important...

Leadership

...Mentoring Introduction According to Schemm, R.L. and Bross, T. (1995), the act of mentoring is defined as a process where a younger individual is paired with an older, person for the purpose of attaining guidance and support. Mentoring is becoming increasingly prevalent in today’s work force, and becoming more of a necessity rather than a consideration. It is likely that most, if not all, individuals will form one of these mentor-mentee relationships during some point in his or her professional career. There are several advantages, as well as possible disadvantages, to forming one of these relationships. When thinking of mentoring, a one on one relationship usually comes to mind; however, multiple-mentor relationships make another valid option available. In any mentoring relationship, there does come a great deal of responsibility. You are responsible for molding that person. Mentoring is a growing trend among working professionals; it has many benefits, and will help individuals gain success, and provide a fulfilling role for the mentor. Disadvantages/Problems Unfortunately, not all mentor-mentee relationships assist in the professional development of an individual. Occasionally, but not always, there can be problems in a mentoring relationship. There is always a chance that personalities and communication styles may not mesh, or poor advice be given by the mentor (Nolinske, 1995, p. 40). Creating an environment in which the mentee is evaluated based solely on...
