A visionary, who believed in uniting all tribes to establish one Indian nation, with a common goal of stopping further loss of land to the westward expansion of a young republic. For Tecumseh, he viewed Americans as a threat to their way of life and if they don’t unite against the Americans, they would lose their identity and their land. He created an alliance with different tribes in order to air their grievances with the U.S. Government, hoping that they would be respected as one people and given their land back.[1] Tecumseh was believed to be born in the year 1768. In Shawnee belief and tradition, his name meant, a panther jumping from one mountain to another. The basis for this was the celestial formation of stars in the shape of a panther. The Ohio valley was home to the Shawnees, a vast stretch of land where elk, deer, and other game are abundant. This place was dear to a Shawnee for they can roam freely and hunt food.
