We Shall Remain: After the Mayflower

The Europeans came to the New World because because they wanted religious freedom, they felt the land was theirs for the taking, and they felt like religion justified their expansion. The Europeans came to the New World to have religious freedom. England didn’t except the settlers beliefs in religion so they were kicked out. They felt the land was for grabs because they it was in God’s name. They felt like God was on their side. To conclude, the Europeans came to the New World because they had they wanted religious freedom, they felt like the land was for grabs and they felt like religion backed up their expansion.

The second generation and the first generations had differences that affected the relationship between the Natives and the settlers. With the first generation of settlers came a struggle which the Native Americans helped them survive and they signed the treaty. By the second generation the settlers no longer needed the Natives help and they knew that, so they no longer needed the treaty and by the time Massasoit dies they settlers defile the treaty. There are some major differences between Edward Winslow and his son Josiah, Edward was a good man who kept his word but Josiah was looking for war with the Natives because he felt like they were savages. And with Massasoit and his son Philip came one difference which was Philip showed off his wealth. To wrap this up, the second generation and the first generations had differences that affected the relationship between the Natives and the settlers.

The Natives that were assimilated didn’t want to fight because they needed survivors.
The Native Americans needed survivors to pass down the next generation of Natives, they wanted to live a peaceful life. If they all joined together to fight they would all be wiped out. All things considered, the Natives that were assimilated didn’t want to fight because they needed survivors.

A visionary, who believed in uniting all tribes to establish one Indian nation, with a common goal of stopping further loss of land to the westward expansion of a young republic. For Tecumseh, he viewed Americans as a threat to their way of life and if they don’t unite against the Americans, they would lose their identity and their land.
