My life is far from perfect. A lot of things go wrong and I make a lot of mistakes. At time these mistakes make me depressed out of no where. Despite with all the conflict, I am in love with myself because I know I am a great person. Not because of what I have done or what I have but because of how I treat people around me. In the end of my life I want to be remembered for making a difference in lives of others, for helping someone accomplish their dreams, for being a supportive spirit in a person's success. When people say my name, I want them to say, “Good person, good friend, good heart”. When people describe me, I want them to say, ”Loyal, honest, Caring”. When people define who I was, I want them to say, “Sister, daughter, friend”. When people think of me, I want them to say, “Loved, treasured, missed”. I also want to be remembered as someone who had a great smile all the time and someone who accomplished her dream despite the hard life she went through. Everyday I always have a positive attitude. Whatever problem i have either it’s really bad or not, I manage to maintain a smile on my face. I'm always there for my mom, brother, friends, and other people. When my mom needs a shoulder to cry on, I’m there. If Mom needs someone she can release her anger on, I’m there. I am her throw-pillow. I am everyone’s throw-pillow. My friends use me for this too. Yet, I stay strong and keep that smile upon my face. I want to be remembered as someone who left a positive and inspirational legacy. In high school, I was in a nursing class for CNA. During our clinical hours we would go out to facilities and do some basic training such as; bathing, grooming, feeding and changing. One morning, I had an elderly patient. She woke up with her hair unfixed, she slowly got up into her wheelchair. I knocked and she stared at me as I entered her room, from far distance I could see sadness in her eyes. As I get closer to her I happily greeted her “Good morning!”. There was no respond and the room was full of silence. I decided to fix her bed first and do her hair that looked like it hasn't been combed for days. I slowly combed it and tie it in a long beautiful braid. As i was finishing up she grabbed my hand and hold it tightly with her two little hands. She looked into my eyes and said, “Thank you so much for being there, for fixing my hair, Now i feel that someone really cares for, I will always remember you”. Tears slowing starts to roll down her rosy cheeks and she hugged me. I couldn't explained my feeling at that moment. I know that someone appreciated me and I had impacted her life. When I am told that the job is disgusting and hard. I laugh, because i will not do anything that don't make me happy and it’s over-whelming taking caring of others.
People don’t realized the impact any nurses can do to their patients lives. Throughout life I will meet many different people. Some of them I will forget in a matter of minutes. Others I might think about every now and then. There are people that I touch in some way. Maybe just because I smile at them everyday, maybe I am there for them at times when no one else is, or maybe I did something special for them that was greatly appreciated. Whatever the reason, there are always people out there that will remember me. It’s up to us how we live our life everyday and also impact others lives.

Remember

...Lauren Hillstrom MW 2:30 12/17/12 Option A Final Paper: Remember “Remember” by Christina Rossetti is a sonnet written in iambic pentameter. Her poem follows the structure of an Italian sonnet, one divided into an octave and sestet. The author’s thought process is portrayed through the rhythmic divide of her poem. The octave rhyming ABBAABBA directly pleads a loved one to remember her when she is gone. Then the following sestet rhyming CDDECE creates a shift in atmosphere, where she realizes the mortality of memory and would rather her love one be happy than mourn in the misery of her death. The fourteen lines altogether portray themes of love, fear, and death. With dark and sad undertones, the words “you” and “I” are used frequently showing that the poem is a dialogue speaking directly to a loved one. Throughout the poem she uses anaphora, such as repeating ‘remember’ at the beginning of several sentences. In the first line “Remember me when I am gone away”, she is speaking to someone in a direct form asking to be remembered when she is no longer here. Thus, the idea of separation is introduced here. At this point, we cannot tell if she is embarking on a journey, leaving a relationship behind or what calls for this separation between her and the person she is speaking to. Following, in the second line, “Gone away into the silent land”, the word ‘gone’ is used as a euphemism for death by using silent land as a metaphor for heaven. This imagery of heaven reveals the separation...

Literacy Narrative

...Katie Fuller English 1010 Ms. Wardell 18 September 2015 How Alcohol Has Influenced My Literacy Not everyone really remembers how or when they learned to read and write. In fact, most people do not. I am one of those people that do not. So, this is not so much a story of “how” as much as it is a story of some recollections of my journey through literacy as a whole. From my first big kid book, to learning a new language, and everything in between. Not all of these recollections are necessarily positive ones, though. My father had a lot of negative influence on me when I was younger, and I believe he is the reason I am still not the greatest student. Once when I was in first grade, my class was taking our weekly spelling test. None of the words were particularly difficult, considering we were only in first grade. In fact, I specifically remember the word “pie” being one of the words. For whatever reason, though, I could not seem to keep up with my teacher as she called out the words. She would call out a word, and before I could finish writing, she had already called out the next, and the next, and the next. Eventually, being the cry baby I am, I started sobbing uncontrollably because I was sure I was going to fail. In the middle of the test! Once she realized I was crying, she turns to me and asks, “What’s wrong?” I felt way too embarrassed to tell her and the whole class that I could not keep up with them, so I ended up blurting out, “I just miss my dad.” My dad had been...

Peace

...home or church. I remember prayers taught to me in childhood. I was taught to say my prayers regularly at bed time. As a child I was taught "Now I lay me down to sleep..." and the Lord's Prayer. I do not remember learning them; I just remember always knowing them. As I think of the ways I learned to pray, the most important teacher was the experience. My family did not have times of prayer together except at daily meals when grace was offered by my father. On Sundays when I went to church, I remember hearing long and boring prayers from the minister. As I recall, on no occasion was I taught about silent prayer, meditating, or the fact that I could have an individual relationship with God. Being a new Christian I found it a challenge to pray on a consistent basis. The first step in developing a life of prayer, was realizing that prayer was communicating with God. As I prayed There were times when sickness in the home or with close relatives caused me to prayer without ceasing. I didn’t realize at that time, that I was becoming an intercessor. Many times as a young Christian I served as my pastor’s driver and daily companion while rearing my children. There were times when she would be called upon to pray for the sick, at the church or at the hospital. This is where I learned the power of prayer. I can recall during times of pain, agony or despair when a prayer was pulled out of me with surprising strength. I was taught to read the word, pray the word so that it became...

...quickly. When I was in China, I gave little presentations, but after I came to America, I gave approximate 5 presentations in one semester. From others’ presentations, I also have learnt much healthy and useful knowledge that I cannot learn from class. During this whole semester, all classmates are divided into four groups to give their own presentations. Four ladies are the presenters of the first presentation, whose topic is community. They introduced us different forms of community, like religion community, sport community and learning community. Since this is my first year to live in a foreign country, religion community is very unfamiliar to me. However, through their introduction, I acquired that some community is organized based on faith, so the people who have the same faith can communicate their views with each other. For me, I barely socialized in school, but after their presentation I want to participate in some communities, because I learnt that there are amount of benefits. For example, joining to a learning community can develop our academic grade; participating in a volunteer community can realize our self- fulfillments, and attending to an art community can cultivate our temperament. In all, students can always find value of a community. I am an accounting student, so, of course, I need to learn some courses, which is required a high level of memory ability, like taxation. ...interesting things to share. There’s too much to talk about, like my favorite teacher, or the worst teacher I’ve ever met, or the experiences I went through when I first come to America. But because Amy Tan and Elizabeth Wong’s stories, I’d like to share the story about my first English teacher Mrs. Wu and my mother. So let me talk about Mrs. Wu first. I met her in the first year I went to elementary school. She is not the English teacher in school, and actually she was not the real first English teacher I met, but she made me interested in English. We already started to study English in grade one. However my parents thought the English that I learn in elementary school was too basic, and they thought English will be very useful. So they find me an English class outside the school, I met Mrs. Wu there. I didn’t want to have the class at first. I have no wish to learn a foreign language at that time. That means I have to spend half days to take that class on every weekends. No, that was not acceptable for me, I had dozens of cartoons didn’t watch, I had dozens of crickets didn’t catch, how can I spend half days in this class? However, my parent didn’t listen to me, I have to go. I am glade I went to there at last, or I must be regret now. The first meeting with Mrs. Wu...

Holy Mass for the Conclusion of the Year of Faith on the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, 24 November 2013

...11/24/13 Holy Mass for the conclusion of the Year of Faith on the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, 24 November 2013 HOLY MASS FOR THE CONCLUSION OF THE YEAR OF FAITH ON THE SOLEMNITY OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE HOMILY OF POPE FRANCIS Saint Peter's Square Sunday, 24 November 2013 Video Today’s solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, the crowning of the liturgical year, also marks the conclusion of the Year of Faith opened by Pope Benedict XVI, to whom our thoughts now turn with affection and gratitude for this gift which he has given us. By this providential initiative, he gave us an opportunity to rediscover the beauty of the journey of faith begun on the day of our Baptism, which made us children of God and brothers and sisters in the Church. A journey which has as its ultimate end our full encounter with God, and throughout which the Holy Spirit purifies us, lifts us up and sanctifies us, so that we may enter into the happiness for which our hearts long. I offer a cordial and fraternal greeting to the Patriarchs and Major Archbishops of the Eastern Catholic Churches present. The exchange of peace which I will share with them is above all a sign of the appreciation of the Bishop of Rome for these communities which have confessed the name of Christ with exemplary faithfulness, often at a high price. With this gesture, through them, I would like to reach all those Christians living in the Holy Land, in Syria...

Learning To Read Analysis

...I remember as a young child my parents, teachers, and tutor always saying " read the book" and I didn't. I thought that it was just silly to do so and that it wasn't necessary, especially since the teachers would always teach us what was in the book. Now that I am older and have to read more documents and sign more papers on my own, I see why it is important to learn how to read. Most of what we learn is through reading. The more we read, the more we know and the more we are able to remember. Through reading comes knowledge. When we read, our brain processes the information and stores it as memory. This gives us more knowledge because after reading any kind of material several times, we will have eventually learned it and remember it more. This is because our...

Story About My Literacy

...interested in reading since I was a child growing up in Iran. I remember that I was grabbing my mom or my dad magazine’s and look through all the pictures and wondering what is it saying? Then I would go to my dad and asking him to tell me what all these word surrounding these pictures means? So my dad was putting his glasses on while he was smiling at me and looked at the page that I was pointing at, then he start to read it to me loud and clear; at that point I was very jealous of my dad, that how can he read so well and I couldn’t ? and he would tell me that:”Don’t worry once you go to school they will teach you and you can read anything you want as good as me or even better”. My father explained to me that he felt books were very important and that I had been exposed to books from the beginning. I was read to by many family members such as aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. He also stressed that I was a very verbal child at a young age and had been around mostly adults for the first few years. My vocabulary started at about five months and by two years had clear structured sentences. As I was learning how to speak, I was also introduced to letters and their sounds. By the time I was four and a half I was able to write and read my name and the alphabet. As I learned how to speak, read, and write I also taught my younger brother. There are two grades during school I remember that made an impact on me. They were kindergarten and sixth grade, the beginning and end...
