Hess’s Law: Determine Heat Formation of Magnesium Oxide

Aim:
To find Temperature difference/forming between MgO metal and Mg metal
Hypothesis:
My hypothesis is if Magnesium oxide has a heat formation due to the reaction with HCl, then Magnesium Metal will have a greater temperature difference.
Variables:
Independent: Amount of HCl
Dependent: Temperature increase
Controlled: Amount of Mg metal and MgO metal
Manipulation Variable:
The independent variable is the amount of HCl being reacted with Magnesium Metal and Magnesium Oxide. The more the amount of HCl the faster is the reaction and we can see the amount of heat change produced from the reaction. While the Dependent is the temperature increase during the reaction from the original room temperature of the solution. When Mg or MgO is reacted with HCl, reaction occurs and temperature increase will be there. What I control is the amount of Mg and MgO that will be reacted with HCl. If there is too much the reaction won’t be a fine reaction nor vice versa.
Materials:
1 Bottle with hole in lid
Beaker with 100 ml of 1 mol of HCl
0.10-0.15 grams of Magnesium
0.3-0.5 grams of Magnesium Oxide
1 Stopwatch
1 Thermometer (in Celcius)
1 Big Beeker with A lot of Cotton
2 10 ml Beeker
Procedure:
Experiment 1: 1. Take 0.15 grams of Magnesium Metal 2. Weigh the bottle and lid 3. Add 50ml of HCl to bottle and record new mass 4. Measure the temperature of HCl inside the bottle with cotton outside preventing heat loss for 3 Minutes and 20 Seconds in 20 second interval 5. Add Magnesium Metal to the bottle that contains 50ml of HCl and stir it, record temperature change for 6 minutes and 40 seconds and record in 20 second interval 6. Do 3 Trials
Experiment 2: 1. Take 0.5 grams of Magnesium Oxide Metal (powder) 2. Weigh the bottle and lid 3. Add 50ml of HCl to bottle and record new mass 4. Measure the temperature of HCl inside the bottle with cotton outside preventing heat loss for 3 Minutes and 20 Seconds in 20 second interval 5. Add Magnesium Oxide Metal to the bottle that contains 50ml of HCl and stir it, record temperature change for 6 minutes and 40 seconds and record in 20 second interval 6. Do 3 Trials

Based on the graph we can see that after 200 seconds in all 3 trials, temperature increase and then goes to a constant temperature.
Processed Data: Time | Trial 1 | Trial 2 | Trial 3 | Average | 0 | 24 | 24 | 24 | 24 | 20 | 24 | 24 | 24 | 24 | 40 | 23.5 | 24 | 24 | 23.83 | 60 | 24 | 24 | 24 | 24 | 80 | 24 | 24 | 24 | 24 | 100 | 24 | 24 | 24 | 24 | 120 | 24 | 24 | 24 | 24 | 140 | 24 | 24 | 24 | 24 | 160 | 24 | 24 | 24 | 24 | 180 | 24 | 24 | 24 | 24 | 200 | 24 | 24 | 24 | 24 | 220 | 29 | 24 | 25 | 26 | 240 | 31 | 27.5 | 27.5 | 28.66 | 260 | 31.5 | 28 | 28 | 2916 | 280 | 31.5 | 30 | 30.5 | 30.66 | 300 | 31.5 | 31 | 31 | 31.16 | 320 | 31 | 31 | 31 | 31 | 340 | 31.5 | 31.5 | 31 | 31.33 | 360 | 31.5 | 31 | 31 | 31.16 | 380 | 31 | 31 | 31 | 31 | 400 | 31 | 31 | 31 | 31 | 420 | 31.5 | 30.5 | 31 | 31 | 440 | 31 | 31 | 31 | 31 | 460 | 30.5 | 31 | 31 | 30.83 | 480 | 31 | 31 | 31 | 31 | 500 | 31 | 31 | 31 | 31 | 520 | 31 | 31 | 31 | 31 | 540 | 31 | 31 | 31 | 31 | 560 | 31 | 31 | 31 | 31 | 580 | 30.5 | 31 | 31 | 30.83 | 600 | 31 | 31 | 31 | 31 |

Average data obtained from the tests indicate that temperature increase and falls to a constant temperature.
Working:
Experiment 1:
ΔH=MCΔT
50.15 x 4.18 x 13.44 = 2817.38 J/K/mol
Experiment 2:
ΔH=MCΔT
50.5 x 4.18 x 7.33 = 1547.28 J/K/mol

Conclusion:
In the First Experiment Graph for both Raw Data and Processed Data, we can see that during the first trial, temperature change after Magnesium Metal is mixed with HCl is not that successful. Looking at both Trial 2 and 3, the temperature change is very drastic, which prooves that the experiment went well as we predicted.
In the Second Experiment Graph, we can see that temperature change was occuring but not changing drastically but it was gradually changing. By a certain amount of time, heat that changed from normal room temperature change to after reaction temperature which is roughtly 31®C.
Entalphy Change for both reaction are different. We can see that the enthalphy change for Mgo + 2HCl is much less then the entalphy change for Mg + 2HCl. That is due to the oxygen that in the end creates H20 aquas solution that limits the temperature increase while the Magnesium metal without the oxygen creates H2 gas which has a higher temperature rate.
This proves that there is a heat formation occuring in MgO reaction due to the increase in temperature that was detected by the thermometer inside the bottle which contains 50ml of HCl.

Evaluation:
The method I used to gather data is the right method because we can see how heat formation from MgO + 2HCl. Though there are certain parts in the experiment that should be done better, data taken from the lab will be pretty accurate. Such Errors that could be changed is using the data logger to check for the temperature of the solution and draw proper graphs based on the result from the data logger. Other changes like using better calculation and recording method’s may help make this data proccesing more accurate.

Tgirls

...Back stabbed.. After friday night's bad experience at the club, I was told that the genetic girls (which were brought in to augment our numbers as the ts girls are notoriously hard to get to come in) would be de-emphazied. Not fired, just de-emphasized, and only brought in if circumstances absolutely demanded it. For the last two Friday's we had plenty of tgirls, but still we had a bunch of genetic girls, because no one was keepng a schedule. So hardly any of us made even our house fees, and everyone had to scramble to find people to flirt with/lap dance with, whatever it is that we strippers do. This last friday, on a day that was very tense as another co worker's job was on the line for basically pissing off another tgirl outside of the club (a bullshit reason), I just happened to go up to the wrong guy. It was nearing the end of the night and I hadn't made any money, but apparently the guy I went to was there to see one of the cis-gendered females. When I apptempted to flirt with him, I got the whole "You're a guy" and "I'm not a faggot' stuff, and it quickly escalated from that. I was like "why are you even here?" which is the question I had to ask. I also learned later that earier, someone overheard him telling me to "go home" If a TS strip club is a safe haven for ts girls, and THEIR ADMIRERS, then the customer base is comfortable with being there. I threatened to quit over this and I was told that the genetic girls working the night shift would be let go, or de-emphazised...

He was afraid that if he told anyone that he would lose his job and had a family to support. When looking at WorldCom situation it was good that the internal auditor committee took charge of the situation when it was brought to them. That was very ethical and then to have the external auditors take over to review the matter was the right step. Now the fact that you had an accountant that your CFO making false reports and switching money around is not very ethical. Not only did your CFO bring another person into the fraudulent reports, but now an external investigation has to be done and reported. Manhunt

...posted a manifesto on his social network page and on February 3, 2013 it all began! His first 2 victims had been shot and killed and there were more deaths to follow. Dorner was after any and all law enforcement and anyone involved with them and LAPD had no idea what else was in store. The manhunt lasted for a little over a week and authorities had no idea where he was or what his next move could have been. Somehow, they caught up with him finally and it all ended with a cabin on fire and Dorner allegedly dead. ABC 7 was not subjective, they reported the information they had, and the reporters did not seem to make subjective comments in the first report. Some information I found odd to be reported was the preschool Dorner attended. Has the reports continued, it started to seem like all the stations were being subjective in their reports. Fox 11 news was the most subjective; the reporters shared how terrible they thought the events were and hoped for Dorner’s capture. In both stations the information that was omitted or never spoken of in detail was how good of a person everyone knew Christopher Dorner as. There were people who wanted to share their experiences with him and who have known him for years and never thought of him as a killer, but apparently none of that mattered at this point. NBC 4 was the most objective, there were no opinions, and they reported the information they had. All news stations seemed to omit any good information on the suspect, but at that point they were...
