Recently, I read a book called 10-Minute Mindfulness: 71 Simple Habits for Living in the Present Moment. I will first explain the reasons for selecting this book in this paper. Then, two of my favorite topics from this book will be discussed. In addition, I will compare the information in the book with other recent external professional sources. In the last part, I will provide explanation of why the book will impact my personal actions.

I choose this book because I have heard that mindfulness practice can improve our lives, but have no idea where to start and how to do it. We all live in a busy world and always look for a better life quality. From the tittle of this book, I guess the book will provide some interesting and useful tips to practice in real life. The author shared 71 ways to be more mindful, and I did learn some simple and practical ways from this book to incorporate mindfulness practice easily and quickly throughout a day. …show more content…
I believe many people like me usually skip breakfast or just grab some fast food because we always wake up as late as we can, then feel tired mid-morning. After I read this book, I realized that breakfast could be “a mini-celebration to get your day off to be a happy, healthy start” which only takes me 10 minute to delight my day Scott & Davenport, 2017, p.80). Another topic that helps me the most is “Stand, stretch and get moving”. I’m a typical person who spends most of time sitting in front a computer, and I always feel exhausted and have lower back pain after a busy day. Scott and Davenport (2017) found that “body can benefit from simply standing up, stretching muscles and moving around for a few minutes”(p.185). This paper highlights research about risk factors for depression in children and adolescents and links it to current knowledge about interventions aimed at preventing depression in youth. Basic epidemiologic and clinical research indicates that increased risk for depression is associated with being female; a family history of depression, particularly in a parent; subclinical depressive symptoms; anxiety; stressful life events; neurobiological dysregulation; temperament/personality (e.g., neuroticism); negative cognitions; problems in self-regulation and coping; and interpersonal dysfunction.
