The book I chose to read was “10-Minute Mindfulness” by S.J. Scott & Barrie Davenport. I chose this book for assistance in providing me with the tools and instructions to be more mindful and positive in my everyday life. This is something I think each and every one of us can benefit from, especially in todays fast paced world.
How to reclaim your family This book describes several simple habits (71 to be exact) to assist in practicing mindfulness even with all the hussle and bussle of our daily lives. Another thing I really liked about this book is how it describes how to implement each habit into our daily activities we already do. The authors really made it easy for me to picture in my mind, integrating these mindful habits on a day-to-day …show more content…
36). Having a few extra minutes has really decreased my morning rush and my anxiety level and has also allowed me to spend a little more quality time with my family before rushing off to work. The other habit I’ve adopted into my life is #19 in the book. The habit is, being present with your family. This is one of the habits that made a big impression on me. Being mindful of giving full focused attention to my loved ones is something I want to improve in my home. I was seeing a decline in our family interaction due to a variety of reasons such as, limited time we spend with each other, electronics and other distractions in our home. Utilizing the action plans and suggestions Scott & Barrie gave, such as sitting down together for breakfast and create a no phone, no computer, no television policy at the table has really helped. Just the simple act of listening attentively to my loved ones, giving them my undivided attention, and making sure I tell them how much I love and appreciate them puts a smile on their faces. I can see what it means to them even without them saying anything. During the day I try and be mindful to continue this by sending them random text messages just to let them know I’m thinking of

My rationale is my mind and body are more rested therefore my perception of stress and my ability to handle stress would improve thereby lowering my stress levels(Minkel et al., 2012) Sleep deprivation is associated with higher cortisol levels and with an exaggerated cortisol response to a stressor. This paper highlights research about risk factors for depression in children and adolescents and links it to current knowledge about interventions aimed at preventing depression in youth. Basic epidemiologic and clinical research indicates that increased risk for depression is associated with being female; a family history of depression, particularly in a parent; subclinical depressive symptoms; anxiety; stressful life events; neurobiological dysregulation; temperament/personality (e.g., neuroticism); negative cognitions; problems in self-regulation and coping; and interpersonal dysfunction. These vulnerabilities both increase individuals’ chances of encountering stress and decrease their ability to deal with the stress once it occurs.
