(2000 - 2009)

Market Capitalization +33%

[pic]

All three time zones have grown during the decade. Even though the Americas time zone is still the largest region (although much less than before), the Asia-Pacific time zone share has grown significantly, while the EAME (Europe – Africa – Middle East) area has almost remained stable.

Total Value of share trading +61%

[pic]

As compared to the market capitalization evolution, it is interesting to note that the Americas remain very dominant, while the Asia-Pacific share has more than doubled compared to the EAME time zone[1].

Total number of trades in equity shares +700%

[pic]

The explosion of the number of trades has to be compared to the average size of trades[2]. This average has dropped 85% over the last ten years[3].

When looking at the average size of trades in each time zone, it is interesting to note a clear convergence towards a comparable figure. It is also interesting to note that the downward trend started in 2000[4], and has accelerated for the last two years. The significant larger figure from the EAME time zone is consistent with its absolute value of share trading and the smaller figure of number of trades compared to the other regions.

Total Number of Listings +41%

The total number of listings has reached a stable figure (around 45 000) since 2005. This metrics is the most sensitive to the evolution of membership (the sharp increase in 2001 corresponds to the inclusion of Bombay Stock Exchange, National Stock Exchange of India,

...Performance Appraisal Systems In the Retail Industry Performance Management Systems Introduction Performance management is an ongoing process and one of the most important responsibilities of a manager's job. The company I work for has a very detailed and efficient performance management system. The appraisals are fair and uniformly applied to all employees. Every associate in the company is reviewed quarterly and annually. The performance appraisals help management review the company’s results for previous year and help the employees establish personal job objectives for the upcoming year. They also help to identify opportunities for the continued development of each associate. Overview The BonTon Stores, Inc. is committed to providing an environment that supports their associates by providing objective and subjective feedback from their respective supervisor. The annual process of performance appraisal is an opportunity for associates and their managers to have candid and open discussion on performance in order to help all associates reach their maximum potential. Companies can also use performance appraisal systems to make sure that their company objectives and goals are written with each other. “By ensuring that compensation is aligned with their strategic objectives, companies stand a better chance of achieving those objectives and maintaining a competitive edge over their competitors” (McDermott, 1987). Through improved performance of each associate...

Citi Bank Preformance Review System

...discussion will be based on Citibank’s performance review process, James McGaran’s feedback for last year’s appraisal & approach to give that feedback, and my recommendations of changes in processes and procedures that I am recommending. James McGaran has been employed by Citibank for the last eleven years and started as an Assistant Branch Manager and was promoted quickly through the ranks to Branch Manager. He has delivered exceptional results during his time as Branch Manager of one of the most important branches in the Los Angeles area. In 1995 a decision was made to update the performance evaluation to drive not only financial results but also drive strategy implementation, customer satisfaction, controls needed in banking, and leading people. Based on what is presented as the current Citibank performance review template in the Harvard Business School article changes should be made to reflect a more rounded feedback loop. Performance Review Session with James McGaran James is going to receive an overall Par rating for his performance review based on the criteria set out in the Citibank review procedure. The procedure lays out that if you have any area in the review that is below par the highest overall score can be only Par. (Harvard, 1999) Approach to the feedback session with James The approach to give James feedback on his performance for 1996 would be to follow the performance review form. And go over the criterion that was used to...

How much must the firm repay after one year?  FV = future value = 1,000(1+r) = 1,000 (1.1) =1,100  What if the loan is for 3 years, at compound interest of 10% per year?  If compounding is annual:  FV = 1,000 (1+r)3 = 1,000 (1.1)3 = 1,331 3 Review of time value of money  In general, FV = PV (1+r)t = PV * FVIF (r, t)  FVIF = future value interest factor  On exams, if you write FV = 1,331, this is not enough.  You must write at least:  FV = 1,000 FVIF (10%, 3) or  FV = 1,000 (1 + 0.1)3 = 1,331  If FV = PV (1 + r)t, then 1 PV  FV t (1  r )  PVIF = present value interest factor 4 Review of time value of money  To find r in PVIF or FVIF  We know that FV = PV (1+r)t  FV (1 +r)t =      [(1  PV  +r)t 1 t ]  (1 + r ) = =  FV  1 t  PV     FV   PV    1 t 5 Review of time value of money  FV   r=  PV   1 t -1  To solve for t, take the log:  Example: PV = 25,000; FV = 50,000; r= 12%, t =? Fhe Executive Summary

...appliance industries in vehicle servicing and home construction. In the last five years, FHE has aggressively introduced new products and has experienced an increase in sales and profits as a result. FHE views aggressive and efficient product development as a means for growth and success. Improving the speed and efficiency of bringing products to market is a critical component of this strategy. As such, the Engineering and Marketing functions are organized into one team which is led by Vice President of Corporate Development and Marketing, Phil Thomas in order to facilitate cooperation during new-product introductions. This new organizational structure has caused overlap and uncertainty around roles and responsibilities in two critical positions within the team, the technical program manager and the product manager. In addition, manufacturing has not been included in the upfront design of the product and is only brought into the process during the testing phase, once the product has been designed and approved. FHE’s Product Development Engineering Manager, Lum Donaldson is reviewing the product development process and looking for opportunities to improve their operations. Currently, the product development process takes 1 year. The process involves Engineering, Marketing and Manufacturing. These three organizations are expected to work closely together during the development process. In his review, Donaldson has seen a bottleneck in the Engineering Services organization where...

...Parliamentary Library Information, analysis and advice for the Parliament RESEARCH PAPER www.aph.gov.au/library 26 May 2010, no. 17, 2009–10, ISSN 1834-9854 Budget Review 2010–11 Last year’s Budget was framed amid a sharply deteriorating world economy which was considered the most challenging global economic conditions since the Great Depression. In 2009, the global economy contracted for the first time in the post-war era. In contrast, Australia grew by almost 1.5 per cent supported by monetary and fiscal policy stimulus, a well-functioning banking system, and strong growth in a number of East Asian economies. The third Rudd Government Budget, presented on 11 May 2010, was developed within an improving but still uncertain outlook, with events in Greece and other European Union countries reminding us of the risks to the global economic recovery. Strong economic growth in China and India is expected to continue to flow throughout the region and, despite a slower pace, the US is leading the recovery among our advanced economy major trading partners. Global economic growth is in the early stages of recovery but we should remain cognisant of the precarious economic environment which is continuing to challenge government policy makers around the globe. Once again the Parliamentary Library has produced the annual Budget Review that examines the key features of a selection of crucial measures contained in the Budget to assist parliamentarians in their consideration...
