The colonist declared their independence in 1776 from Great Britain because they felt that they had been treated unfairly. One of the main reasons that the colonist felt mistreated was because they were being taxed by Britain without any representation in Parliament. To show Great Britain how much they hated taxation without representation the colonist refused to purchase English goods that they felt were being unfairly taxed. Some of these goods included printed-paper, tea, and clothes. One of the most famous protests was the Boston Tea Party.
