...Reflection Paper: Importance of 180o Rule or Action Axis in TV and Film Production 180o Rule or Action Axis is a basic guideline in film making that states that two characters (or other elements) in the same scene should always have the same left/right relationship to each other. If the camera passes over the imaginary axis connecting the subjects, it is called crossing the line. The new shot from the opposite side is known as reverse angle.1 Below is diagram how the 180o Rule or Action Axis looks like: [pic] The said principle is also based on the exchange of looks between the actors, either from left to right (of camera) or right to left (of camera). Also, the 180 degree rule enables the audience to visually connect with unseen movement happening around and behind the immediate subject and is important in the narration of battle scenes.2 In my opinion, the principle of Action Axis is helpful in TV and film production when determining the camera positions for photographing two or more people. Also, it helps the cameras and people in front of the camera adjust their blockings for a better shot. Action Axis is I think, the most basic, effective, and must-learn principle that a media arts student must understand before doing a film. Without understanding this concept, one would find difficulty in shooting his film. For aesthetic purposes, I do think that the180o rule will help emphasize the facial expressions of the actors or talents and make the...

...1. Is it continuity editing? Please justify your answers through an analysis of the use of the 180 rule and cut justifications. (6 pts. – 50-150 words) Yes, it is a continuity editing. In this short clip, it contains 6 shots. This clip follows the 180 degree rule since it was shot at the same angle from the beginning to the end. The camera is being place at the same area all the time. Therefore, the main focus is always on the guy. In the clip, the expressive cuts are being used to express the idea of the outdoor living can be as good as indoor; not to mention at the end when the camera zooms out and shows the outdoor scene which links the whole idea together. ‘ 2. Please explain how mise en scène (setting, framing, costume, acting, lightning) and editing (music, shot duration, differences in shot sizes) are working together to visualize the ad’s message (please determine what this message is) (14 pts. – 350-500 words) In this clip, the use of mise en scene and editing is to convey the message that making outdoor living as comfortable as indoor living. First of all, the setting looks like the characters are dining in at home because of the depth of the field between the foreground and the background is close. It makes viewers think that they are sitting not far from the window of the house. The camera angle is shot at the eye level which viewers can easily picture themselves in the characters shoe. Also, the frame is cut on both side of the camera at the first 20 seconds...

...producer, the set and costume designers, camera and lighting people, editors and how they all interact to deliver a smooth flowing story that is in the classical Hollywood style. The seamless storytelling format depends on many variables. The set design can be very important and objects that are seen on camera can enhance and advance the narrative. Sometimes these objects are written in the script as objects to be used, while other times they are there merely to provide ambiance. The use of the camera and expressive shooting angles can also provide us with different views of the scene. A wide angle lens can show us the bigger picture as in a panoramic view of the whole scene. A rule that many Hollywood producers follow is the 180 degree rule in which the camera remains on the same side of an imaginary line which runs through the center of the scene. This insures continuity from one shot to the next and keeps the narrative flowing smoothly. The camera is not the only prop that is utilized to advance the narrative. The lighting also plays an important role in how we see the characters of the movie in a particular scene. Classical Hollywood style uses a three-point lighting system. This system uses many lights set up in a triangle around the subject. The key light(s) are pointed directly at the character. The fill lights are off to the side or...

...Assignment 5 Name: (Your Name) For Dr. Larry Byrd HRM533 Date: (Today’s date) (Title) Innovations of Employee Benefits The succeeding paragraphs will explain how innovations in employee benefits can improve the overall competitive compensation strategy of the organization. The first way is offer onsite day care facilities. The study suggests that on-site daycare is not only affordable; it is in many cases profitable. Further, the study found that a majority of workers would be willing to contribute to the cost of employer-sponsored daycare whether or not they used the benefit. "There are several kinds of employers who typically have on-site childcare, such as high-tech and healthcare industries, and others who need 24-hour workers, such as airline reservation companies," notes Connelly. "The few studies that have been done on on-site childcare focused on those companies with highly educated workforces. We were particularly interested in another group of companies - those who weren't offering daycare as part of a whole package of family-friendly benefits or because of a corporate philosophy, but rather because they had done an economic analysis of their particular set of workers and had decided that on-site childcare would be economically beneficial to their company." The second way is pet-friendly offices. Not all companies are created equal when it comes to the acceptance of dogs in the workplace. Some readily welcome your best friend while others...
