1. Josie receives a book on the probability and statistics of teen pregnancy from her mother during her thirteenth birthday. Alex uses the book as an indirect way of communicating the consequences of sex. However, like many times before the attempt to communicate comes off as cold and emotionless to Josie, which foreshadows issues concerning sex in the future.
2. Peter questions his mother on how her and Lewis came to be. Lacy advises him to share his heart and go for what he wants. Although, she provides Peter with hope she fails to let him know that if he does get rejected it doesn’t define him.
3. Lacy assumes Peter has developed a crush on girl after he takes an interest in how Lewis and her got together.
4. Sex is one of the most intimate actions between humans. As sexual interactions became a normal part of Josie and Matt’s relationship he began to feel entitled. Matt forced himself on to an intoxicated Josie without using protection, raping and endangering her. Personally, I fear for not only Josie’s physical safety but for how she values her life.
5. Peter gains confidence from his mother to ask Josie out through a sweet, cheesy email.
6. Courtney snoops through Josie’s mail and finds Peter’s message where he confessed his love to her. Instead of politely leaving Josie to handle the situation she sneakily emails her self and their schoolmates Peter’s email.
7. Josie couldn’t sleep due to her period being three days late and that there’s a possibility of her being pregnant.
8. Josie states “Popular kids don’t really have friends; they have alliances.” She implied people who are popular use pain and embarrassment of others to better themselves and don’t truly care who they hurt in the process. Josie fails to comprehend that she too appears and comes off just like her friends.
9. Josie pretends to laugh at Peter’s email and not care so she won’t jeopardize her popularity. If she were to be affected by someone whose social status is significantly lower it would cause tension and possibly make people tease her.
10. Peter keeps a picture of Josie and him in his locker of when they were younger. This shows how Peter might be in love with what Josie use to be and not who she came to be which will lead to major heartbreak.
11. Courtney converses with Peter and gives him false hope for his relationship with Josie. She does this for her own amusement because she knows Peter will most likely embarrass himself.
12. When Courtney confronted Peter she told him Josie reciprocates his feelings for her. In his excitement Peter doesn’t consider that Courtney could be lying and tries to hang out with her in the cafeteria.
13. Matt starts to recite words from Peters email and pulls down his pants to humiliate Peter for threating his relationship.
14. After the incident at school Peter ripped the picture of him and Josie out of his locker and urinated on it repeating the phrase fuck you all.
15. Josie looks up how to naturally terminate a pregnancy from home on the computer. She doesn’t want to go through the humiliation or drama of communicating with an adult as a result of desperation she looks into unhealthy ways of having a miscarriage.
16. Mr. Weatherhall, Peter’s neighbor, an old retired cop who seems to be set in his ways and is the stereotypical elderly man. Peter first enters his house to borrow gas for his lawn mower.
17. Joey used to tell Peter that Mr. Weatherhall hid a pistol in his flour and when he stops by the house to get gasoline he finds the gun in the sugar canister instead.
18. Josie finally confesses to Matt that she is pregnant, he responds by acting childish and pretends that everything is okay. Matt keeps a mentality that he is better than everyone else and is unstoppable which causes him to stay immature.
19. Peter steals Mr. Weatherhall’s gun while he is in the basement.
20. Josie realizes she has had a miscarriage yet still doesn’t seem to grasp the serious of the situation and almost comes off a bit like Matt.
21. Lewis receives a phone call from a gun shop saying that his bullets were ready but he didn’t order any.
22. Matt is infuriated and embarrassed with Josie for showing up before his big game but quickly becomes overjoyed when he finds out Josie had started her period.
23. Alex tries to hide her developing relationship with Patrick, the detective, from her daughter Josie.
24. Selena contemplates if stereotypes of what boys and girls are merely deprive us all from what we truly need and makes people into unholy things.
25. Patrick the detective and now Alex’s love interest catches Josie in a lie. She had been secretly visiting Matt’s grave as a way to cope with how everything is changing. Even though, Matt is extremely abusive he was the only stable person that declared his love to and need for Josie’s presence.
26. Lacy lies to through her teeth to a saleswoman who assumes that she is preparing for her kids to leave the nest.
27. Initially Peter acts almost cynical toward his father Lewis who had neglected to visit him for six months. As time went on Lewis just was completely honest with Peter, which seemed to start to rebuild their relationship.
28. During the preparation for the trial Drew tries to lie about his interactions with Peter. However, he is quickly set into place by Patrick who was infuriated that someone could go through a tragedy and still not has the decency to be honest with everyone and themselves.
29. Alex reflects on a memory where she briefly stopped paying attention to Josie who then fell and almost downed to death when she was three. She tells her daughter this for her to understand that she too has moments she can’t forget. Additionally, she used that specific memory to show how Josie is the most important aspect in her life even if she neglects to say it out loud.
30. A support group showed up to Peter’s trial because they felt a connection to what he went through on a daily basis. The group was BVA or the bullied victims of America.
31. Diana’s opening statement paints Peter as a classic serial killer who deserves nothing more than what’s coming to him. She does this by using pictures of the victims and goes into detail on how he planned out the crime. The intention is to make the jury feel as if Jordan’s argument is pointless and to almost dehumanize Peter until you only want revenge.
