In this article I found it very interesting that Barbara Ehrenreich took it upon herself to experience poverty instead of just researching it. She left behind her home, career, and most importantly her money. She wanted to see for herself, how people were living in poverty when having they have jobs. The problem with these jobs are that they are low income jobs. The advantages that she has is that she is a white women and well spoken.
Although this article give good insight to those who do not experience poverty on an everyday basis, it still doesn’t give the complete insight of someone who is actually living in poverty. Ehrenreich had money to look for her own place to live and a car. Moreover that made it pretty unrealistic for someone to act like they are in poverty. For one the couple didn’t have cars to depend on that can get them to and from work. They had to find their own place to live. I can say that it did make it easier since there was two working adults. Because of the lack of money it did make a strain on their relationship. The couple went from not having to worry about the amount of money they spent to worry if they spent too much money they wouldn’t be able to eat the next day. Which is a real life problem that many face in poverty. When the couple worked their separate jobs, it would be long hours that put on huge strain on their bodies. Because of the jobs they work they didn’t get health insurance. Moreover health insurance, whenever either one would get sick or hurt it would be a burden because the cost of going to the hospital and medicine. There are free health clinics but because of the crowdedness of these clinics it would leave many unable to be
