...freedom I claim for you my motherland! Freedom from the burden of the ages, bending your head, breaking your back, blinding your eyes to the beckoning call of the future; 3. Life of my life, I shall ever try to keep my body pure, knowing that thy living touch is upon all my limbs. I shall ever try to keep all untruths out from my thoughts, knowing that thou art that truth which has kindled the light of reason in my mind. 4. It is the same life that is rocked in the ocean-cradle of birth and of death, in ebb and in flow. I feel my limbs are made glorious by the touch of this world of life. And my pride is from the life-throb of ages dancing in my blood this moment. 5. The night is black and the forest has no end; a million people thread it in a million ways. We have trysts to keep in the darkness, but where or with whom - of that we are unaware. 6. The time has not come true, the words have not been rightly set; only there is the agony of wishing in my heart….. 7. Today the summer has come at my window with its sighs and murmurs; and the bees are plying their minstrelsy at the court of the flowering grove. Now it is time to sit quite, face to face with thee, and to sing dedication of life in this silent and overflowing leisure. 8. SUPPOSING I became a champa flower, just for fun, and grew on a branch high up that tree, and shook in the wind with laughter and danced upon the newly budded leaves, would you know me...

...The Palace of 5 Beekman Street: The Past, Present, and Future Of a Newly Discovered Forgotten Landmark People often think that everything noteworthy in New York City has been discovered and widely publicized. The cities vast and intricate infrastructure is something to be marveled at and exposed to world. The city’s infamous skyscrapers, parks, unique media, and one of a kind cultures, have all been widely attributed to the city’s grandeur and illustriousness. However, the world has seemed to forget about one large piece of the city’s prestigious façade. The palace located at 5 Beekman Street has been abandoned for over 70 years. This building is not just one of NYC’s abandoned, rundown, factories or decrepit structures, but is a 9 story, beautifully crafted edifice that happens to be one of the first skyscrapers built in the city. The location is in limbo with its future purpose being debated, and this very teetering of the buildings potential use is what makes it such an interesting site. It is by all means an art world not only for its stunning architectural construction, but for always evolving use of the space. From the building’s first tenants of offices and residences, to more recently movie sets and catwalks, this building has been used for many things and it is widely agreed that it is its abandoned stark interior that lends itself to artistic manipulation. The marvelous building was erected between the years of 1881 through 1883 by the means of extremely wealthy...

...21, 2011 Walter James The Batwa Driving through Rwanda one would think it was one of the most beautiful countries they had ever seen with all the green mountains, lakes, and hills. The people that lived there were farmers tending their crops and it was a clean peaceful country. No one would ever think Rwanda had such a horrible tragedy happen in 1994 to a country such as this. Rwanda is a small rural, over populated, and extremely poor country that is in east central Africa. Burundi is to the south of Rwanda, Tanzania is to east, Uganda is north and to the west of Rwanda is the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The cause of the genocidal civil war in 1994 was ethnic, regional, and class differences. This war took about one million lives (Gordon, 2011). The country of Rwanda consisted of three divisions of ethnic groups. They were the Hutu, Tutsi, and Twa, or also known as Batwa. The reason why there was a division of ethnicity was the perception that they were from different origins. They all looked very similar with minor physical differences, so in regards to race, they were the same. One of the differences of physical features was height. The Hutu and Batwa were considered short, with the emphasis of being inferior. The Tutsi were regarded as powerful, as they were taller and considered handsome. These were the stereotypes when the conflict between all of them clashed. The divisions between them were very political from a broader point of view than anything...

...The Lingering Effects of the BP Oil Spill The rest of the world has long forgotten the disaster that tore through the states along the Gulf of Mexico. Its lingering effects can still be felt three years later. The Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010, otherwise known as the BP oil spill, has left the states of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana in recovery mode. The oil spill not only affected the ecology of these states, but also the economy. This tragic disaster claimed the lives of eleven men. It also disrupted the way of life for the numerous people employed by the seafood industry, and its consumers. The shrimping industry located in these states in the year 2006 accounted for “83% of the total US shrimp landings”, according to John Tunnell (2011). Based on the results of the survey I conducted in Biloxi, MS, along with research I have done, I have found that locally both consumers and businesses are more willing to support the local shrimp industry than they are to purchase imported shrimp. However, on a global scale consumers are still wary of eating shrimp caught anywhere on or near the Gulf Coast. The people residing on the Gulf Coast of the United States of America are a resilient group. They have endured three consecutive extraordinary catastrophes: Hurricane Katrina, the BP Oil Spill, and the Mississippi River Floods, and still somehow have continued to strive and continue their way of life. However, the shrimp industry took a huge hit after the BP...

...Individual Work Week 4 Nichelle Chandler Everest University Online Strategic Planning for Business-2 Chris Caracci 5/10/2013 Although their expertise lies in creating games it is definitely serious business for the video game industry. In this industry when customers are fickle, as well as demanding and the competition is intense, one company Electric Arts. (EA) , has managed to prosper. As one of the world's top three interactive entertainment software companies, EA lives and dies by its innovations. Its product lineup includes over 100 titles, including Battlefield, Madden, FIFA Soccer, and Need for Speed. The company has created over 50 best sellers, each with over 1 million copies sold since 1998. Revenues in 2011 reached almost 3.6 billion dollars. In addition the company was included on Fortunes list of the 100 best companies to work for. It would appear that this was a company that knows its game. With its record of accomplishment you would think that there would not be much anxiety or stress at EA. Yet the reality is that paranoia is a critical part of its success. A top game title takes anywhere from 12 to 36 months to produce, and cost between 5 and 10 million dollars. That is a significant investment risk riding on the company's ability to innovate. John Ricitello, President and Chief Operating Officer, says, "The forgotten aspect of creativity is discipline." The hard part and the part that Ea relentlessly pursues, "is identifying the right idea, assembling...

...things they must end. The American Dream is a great thing to wish for however, it has been lost in time with the unwillingness to pursue it. The saddest thing is that some people believe the American dream is something that exists today; whereas some people in society have no idea that this dream exists. What ever happened to the zeal that drove America to the top? What happened to the aspiration of striving for greatness and becoming that greatness? That may be a question no one knows the answer too or it is an answer that people are unwilling to give. George Carlin once said, “The reason they call it the American Dream is because you have to be asleep to believe it.” Realistically the American Dream is the idea of working your average 9-5 blue or white-collar jobs just to provide for your family. However, society has become so corrupt that the dream has lost its true meaning; the American Dream is the idea of living a good life with someone who loves you no matter what economic status, no matter the...

...The holocaust was arguably one of the most horrific and terrifying mass murders of all time in which over 11 million people were murdered. Not only were the Jews persecuted and discriminated against; in fact, 5 million of the 11 million people killed were a combination of Gypsies, gays, and freemasons. Regardless of who the focus was on, this was an obvious example of hatred and discrimination. This isn’t very surprising considering who the Nazis had as their leader: Adolf Hitler. He is and was the epitome of evil and detestation after he was not accepted into art school for the second time. Hitler wanted to eliminate the Jews in order to create the “perfect race”, and this systematic killing of millions was the one of the first steps in his plan.”Hitler blamed the Jews for Germany’s financial ruin” (Hacht)....

...On January 30th, 1933, Adolf Hitler was appointed chancellor of Germany, thus opening up the door to the world's most “known” historical event, “ The Holocaust”. Now let’s imagine the world did not know about the Holocaust. That Germany, its government, and people all deny of the Holocaust ever happening. Sounds impossible right? How can the murdering of millions simply base on their religion be forgotten and denied? Unfortunately, something like this has occurred not too long ago and has been forgotten by the world, and that is the Armenian Genocide. The Armenian Genocide took place in the Ottoman Empire from 1915-1923. Millions were killed by a campaign of deportation and mass killings by the Young Turk government. The controversy is that...

...On April 17, 2014, the White House announced that 8 million Americans have signed up for private health insurance coverage through the health insurance marketplaces, or exchanges. This significantly exceeds the White House’s original goal of 7 million enrollees. It is far more than the Congressional Budget Office’s recent projections of 6 million. The number of actual enrollees will be smaller than this number. The CBO’s projections are for the average number of those actually enrolled in coverage over the course of a calendar year. To calculate the average number of enrollees, one must subtract from the 8 million the number of individuals who fail to pay their premiums and thus are never actually enrolled in coverage, as well as those who will drop coverage at some later point during the year. To that reduced number, then, must be added back the number who become newly covered through special enrollment periods during the remainder of the year. In the end, 6 to 7 million average enrollees is probably a reasonable estimate. This does not, however, exhaust the number of Americans who are now covered under the Affordable Care Act. The fact sheet states that 3 million young adults are covered under their parents’ plans because of the ACA. This number is probably high, but it is clear that the ACA has dramatically increased coverage of Americans between the age of 19 and 25 — the age group most likely to lack health insurance prior to the ACA (and still). If the fact sheet...

...Humble nickel from 1913 likely to fetch millions By STEVE SZKOTAK | Associated Press – 1 hr 4 mins ago Expensive auction items RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A humble 5-cent coin with a storied past is headed to auction and bidding is expected to top $2 million a century after it was mysteriously minted. The 1913 Liberty Head nickel is one of only five known to exist, but it's the coin's back story that adds to its cachet: It was surreptitiously and illegally cast, discovered in a car wreck that killed its owner, declared a fake, forgotten in a closet for decades and then found to be the real deal. It is expected to fetch $2.5 million or more when it goes on the auction block April 25 in suburban Chicago. "Basically a coin with a story and a rarity will trump everything else," said Douglas Mudd, curator of the American Numismatic Association Money Museum in Colorado Springs, Colo., which has held the coin for most of the past 10 years. He expects it could bring more than Heritage Auction's estimate, perhaps $4 million and even up to $5 million. "A lot of this is ego," he said of collectors who could bid for it. "I have one of these and nobody else does." The sellers who will split the money equally are four Virginia siblings who never let the coin slip from their hands, even when it was deemed a fake. The nickel made its debut in a most unusual way. It was struck at the Philadelphia mint in late 1912, the final year of its issue, but with the year 1913 cast on its face — the...

Afraid that it might break us......you'll no longer be by my side! Now that the darkness has come.....so far away...out of your sight I cry, once again......all alone at midnight!!!!! ...excess of 365 days and counting. By implementing a standard continuity of care for service members transitioning from active or reserve duty status to Veteran status, we can possible save and better protect one of the Nation’s most valuable assets, our former heroes, the American Veteran. The stories of veterans seeking assistance that has been rightfully promised to them are sometimes uplifting and others just heart wrenching and sorrow filled. After doing the legwork and conducting a few interviews, doing some independent research and reading up on proposed solutions I have come across a magnitude of stories filled with so much emotion. These emotions range from despair and hopelessness to joy, appreciation and gratitude to not be forgotten about by the Nation that they so willingly served. “A congressional study estimated that 204,000 U.S. soldiers had been “wounded not mortally, ” while an uncounted number suffered from tuberculosis and neuropsychiatric conditions. A PHS report estimated that perhaps 300,000 or more veterans would need further hospital care. (Mettler & Ortiz, 2012) After reading a very detailed article about...
