LITERATURE REVIEW

Six sigma defines a process that will help organizations to implement a process that will increase their quality and save them cost of the product. The well known former CEO of GE Jack Welch, has proved how important six sigma can be, and why it is worth studying and training employees to become six sigma green belt certified.
When an employee becomes green belt certified (six sigma), they have to complete at least two projects in order to achieve their certification. The projects can range anywhere from cost savings to implementing a process or procedure to increase quality, productivity and etc. The management team has to provide the proper training that will cost them, though the return investment is significant. The employees will also need to be motivated and learn about team development and leadership throughout their training.
It’s very hard to say how people in now days become motivated, and we should ask among ourselves of how much do we know about motivation and the conditions that actually help us become motivated in the workforce, school, or even in our daily lives. (Sherman, Hunt, and Osborn, 2007, p.110). Shermerhorn, Hunt, and Osborn state “Motivation refers to forces within an individual that account for the level, direction and persistence of effort expended at work (Sherman et all, 2007, p.111)”. Once you have acquired your green belt certification and becoming six sigma, you are the project leader and you have to lead the team. If your team is not motivated, then the project could result to failure and have a negative impact to your job performance. This is why motivation and tam leadership is key and part of the training of six sigma.
Companies that are not operating under the six sigma process, typically have high costs. These companies are usually operating under 3-4 sigma level spend 25-40 percent of

Math Investigation

...Cubes Introduction I was given a brief to investigate the number of faces on a cube, which measured 20 small cubes by 20 small cubes by 20 small cubes (20 x 20 x 20). To do this, I had to imagine that there was a very large cube, which had had its outer surface painted red. When it was dry, the large cube was cut up into the smaller cubes, all 8000 of them. From there, I had to answer the question, 'How many of the small cubes will have no red faces, one red face, two red faces, and three faces? From this, I hope to find a formula to work out the number of different faces on a cube sized 'n x n x n'. Solving the Problem To solve this problem, I built different sized cubes: 2 x 2 x 2; 3 x 3 x 3; 4 x 4 x 4; 5 x 5 x 5; 6 x 6 x 6; 7 x 7 x 7; 8 x 8 x 8; 9 x 9 x 9, using multi-links. I started by building a cube sized '2 x 2 x 2'. As I looked at the cube, I noticed that all of the corners had three faces. I then went onto a '3 x 3 x 3' cube. As I observed the cube, I saw that the corners all had three faces, the edges had two, and the faces had one. I looked into this matter to see if this was true. As I went further into the investigation, I found this was true. This made it much easier for me to count the cubes, and be more systematic. Now I could carry on building the cubes, and be more confident about not missing any out. Whilst building the cubes, I also drew them and decided to color code the different faces (Red = Three faces, Green = Two faces...

Six Sigma is a total quality management (TQM) technique pioneered by and applied to Motorola processes in the 1980s by Bill Smith, a Motorola engineer who became known as “the father of Six Sigma.” Since then, other companies, such as Bank of America, Honeywell International, Raytheon, and General Electric, have taken these learned processes and expanded them. Even though many people have reservations about the potential savings from Six Sigma, a story by Charles Waxer (“Six Sigma Costs and Savings: The financial benefits of implementing Six Sigma at your company can be Significant,” www.isixsigma.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view= item&id=1228<emid=187) reports that GE saved more than $12 billion over five years, Honeywell saved $800 million, and Motorola saved $15 billion over 11 years.
