...Cubes Introduction I was given a brief to investigate the number of faces on a cube, which measured 20 small cubes by 20 small cubes by 20 small cubes (20 x 20 x 20). To do this, I had to imagine that there was a very large cube, which had had its outer surface painted red. When it was dry, the large cube was cut up into the smaller cubes, all 8000 of them. From there, I had to answer the question, 'How many of the small cubes will have no red faces, one red face, two red faces, and three faces? From this, I hope to find a formula to work out the number of different faces on a cube sized 'n x n x n'. Solving the Problem To solve this problem, I built different sized cubes: 2 x 2 x 2; 3 x 3 x 3; 4 x 4 x 4; 5 x 5 x 5; 6 x 6 x 6; 7 x 7 x 7; 8 x 8 x 8; 9 x 9 x 9, using multi-links. I started by building a cube sized '2 x 2 x 2'. As I looked at the cube, I noticed that all of the corners had three faces. I then went onto a '3 x 3 x 3' cube. As I observed the cube, I saw that the corners all had three faces, the edges had two, and the faces had one. I looked into this matter to see if this was true. As I went further into the investigation, I found this was true. This made it much easier for me to count the cubes, and be more systematic. Now I could carry on building the cubes, and be more confident about not missing any out. Whilst building the cubes, I also drew them and decided to color code the different faces (Red = Three faces, Green = Two faces...

...ENG 1010 April 21, 2013 1. In the story Hard Choice the character of Sarty appears to be struggling with pleasing his father. The problems lies that Sarty knowing his father way of thinking is not the best and noble way of doing things. Sarty struggling with the issue of he knows that by getting revenge is not necessary the right to do. I think what makes this story more effective is the fact that Sarty went with his right mind and choose not to stay in that type of up brining because he knows what will become of his life. These are choices that in someone shape or form a lot of individuals deal with similar situations with their families and having to decide what they know is right and making the choice to do the right thing or wrong thing. 2. One of the weaknesses of Hard Choices in my opinion is the story telling how these three individuals are struggling of entering adulthood but what are their flaws that they are hiding. Does not tell how they handle situations under pressure. The story was engaging enough. 3. I would like the story of Hard Choices go into a lot more background information about the three individuals and their family lives. 4. What makes the Initiation into Adulthood so strong because the story deals with children growing into adulthood and learning how to make their own decisions and views on adulthood and forming there on identity into society and standing up to what he or she believes. “ At an early age...

...Running Head: “MONEY TALKS” ESSAY 1 “Money Talks” Essay Tammy R. Mathews Liberty University “Money Talks” Essay Based on the definition in our textbook (Littlejohn & Foss, 2011, p. 19) I would argue that “Money Talks” does not fit the criteria for a theory. It is not "an organized set of explanations." It's simply an idiom or a metaphor -- maybe "loosely" considered a personal theory, but nothing close to the types of theories in our textbook. Literally, money does not talk; it has no such characteristics. However, the phrase “money talks” is based on the concept that money gives one power and influence to help get things done and get one’s own way. Therefore, I would describe the phrase, “money talks,” more specifically as a communication theory. “Money talks” is a communication tool for those who have the means to be a powerful influence to get one’s way. Sometimes, this communication is spoken or unspoken. It is taken for granted that communication can influence what is done and what is not done. This is not always based on what is right or wrong. It is definitely about the power of the almighty dollar. In a lot of instances, money does talk and it talks very loud! “Money talks” is a representation in the real world. Is it a true representation? It shouldn’t be but the reality is that “it is.” “Money “stands for” the economic...

...corporation so the availability of media is unsurpassed, 90% of my job functions are to be completed on the computer or my smart phone if I am in the field. I found this to be a very difficult and more so uncomfortable task. It is with great hesitation I am admitting that I am completely dependant on media of all forms. I felt very uncomfortable and extremely anxious as, I had no idea what I was going to do with the extra time I had. That thought alone was a very unfortunate as well as uncomfortable one; I have a 6 year old daughter named Emma and this assignment made me realize how little real quality time I spend with her and my fiancé Mike. So, after a run to clear my head from these new revelations, I took to the kitchen and baked cupcakes with Emma, and to be honest that was the happiest I’ve seen her in a long time. Don’t get me wrong, Emma and I play video games together, go shopping, and things like that but during this time she just simply wanted one thing, her and I alone. I cannot completely cut myself off from media as it is my means of communications to my friends and long distance family members. What I can do is work diligently to reduce the amount of time I spend on my phone and the internet and make a very valiant effort to set aside the very much needed time with my own family in lieu of the feeling that I might “miss something” if I’m not constantly on social media. This assignment was a real eye opener on the dependency this generation has on mass media and...

...dot number 2 and then we see scene number 1 which ends at dot number 1. Afterwards we see the first black/white part of the movie. The black/white parts are played in chronological order. After we have seen the first black/white part we jump to dot number three and watch scene number 2 which ends at dot number two. After seeing scene number two we watch the second black/white part. Then we jump to dot number 4 and so on. The real chronological order would be to first see all the black/white scenes in the movie in the order we see in the movie. Afterwards we would see scene 7, then scene 6 and so on until we have seen the last scene, the scene the movie started with. Because of this structure of the movie you need to follow closely or you need to know before you watch the movie how it works or else it can be very confusing. It also demands from the viewer that he/she notices the little things that happens for example when we see Sammy Jenkins at the institution and when someone walks by and suddenly it is Lenny sitting in the chair. As a viewer you also need to know when we deal with flashbacks and when we just jumped one scene back. Through the story we kind of experience how it feels to suffer from short-term memory loss like Lenny. Because we don’t know what has happened earlier we only know what Lenny has told us and what we can see on Lenny’s pictures just like Lenny. So we don’t know any more than Lenny do, we don’t know how many John G.’s he has killed or if Teddy is the...
