Summary
In 1960’s there was a practice called the 60’s scoop, in which Indigenous children were taken from their families and were adopted by non-indigenous families. This process started up in 1960 and till 1985 around 20,000 of indigenous babies were taken from their mothers. This time was a destructive time period for the indigenous families and their cultural identities.
Raven Sinclair is a victim of 60’ scoop, who was taken along with her 8 siblings from their mother and were adopted by a nonindigenous family. Colleen cardinal a victim, who suffered sexual and physical abuse in a nonindigenous home in Toronto. Margaret Murray was born in Saskatchewan and was adopted, from her family. The federal government introduced 750 million of compensation …show more content…
Along with their personal traits, they take their cultural belongings. Culture is a learned behavior and beliefs specific to a group or is also called a way of life. A culture is a combination of learned belief, values, and language tradition symbols. In the 60’s scoop the adopted children lost their birthplace but along with this they also lose their cultural identity. Raven Sinclair was taken away from her family when she was 4 years old .she entered a new world where “she knew nothing about her ancestry”(Slaughter, 2017).The word ancestry here means that she knew nothing about her past, identity, language, and culture. She leads her life according to French tradition and believes to be French but after research, she came to know that she belongs to Scottish community. Being raised by her step-parents, she learned different beliefs, traits, and language. As mentioned in the definition of that culture is a learned thing, which a person learn from the society, surrounding .in same way Sinclair learn the culture in which she lived. Her surrounding affects her language, traits, beliefs tradition. Culture plays important role in identifying a person’s identity, Collen cardinal was raised by a non indigenous family of Ontario, and she was away from her family and culture for many years. She believe that she lost her identity because she lost her

...“So Cute I Could Eat It Up”: Priming Effects of Cute Products on Indulgent Consumption GERGANA Y. NENKOV MAURA L. SCOTT This article examines the extent to which consumers engage in more indulgent consumption when they are exposed to whimsically cute products and explores the process by which such products affect indulgence. Prior research on kindchenschema (baby schema) has found that exposure to cute babies or baby animals leads to more careful behavior (see the study by Sherman, Haidt, and Coan), suggesting restraint. The present research uncovers the opposite: consumers become more indulgent in their behavior after exposure to whimsically cute products. Drawing from research on cognitive priming, kindchenschema, anthropomorphization, indulgence, and regulatory focus, this research posits that exposure to whimsically cute products primes mental representations of fun, increasing consumers’ focus on approaching self-rewards and making consumers more likely to choose indulgent options. These effects do not emerge for kindchenschema cute stimuli, since they prime mental representations of vulnerability and caretaking. Four empirical studies provide evidence for the proposed effects and their underlying process. C ompanies market a rapidly increasing number and variety of cute products across numerous categories, targeting not only children but also adult consumers. ...Dear nutrition student, Thank you for inquiring about my RD/DTR study guide. And yes, there is no catch, the study guide is COMPLETELY FREE! All I ask for is some feedback. So feel free to shoot me any questions/comments! A little background: This study guide is the culmination of years of my own research. And after careful thought, I put into the study guide what I feel are the most important concepts you need to know for the RD/DTR exam. If you notice, I spent much time teaching you in detail the concepts you need to know, not just “spitting” you questions with little or no explanation. I believe this is important. I know you might be thinking “oh, how am I going to absorb and learn all this material?” I say, just read and answer the questions at your own pace. Simply test yourself and of course take some breaks along the way. Just take it one concept at a time. After you have mastered one concept, then move on to the next. I know if you study whole-heartedly what I have outlined in this study guide, you are sure to pass! GOOD LUCK! ...UV0273 BEN & JERRY’S HOMEMADE Jerry: What’s interesting about me and my role in the company is I’m just this guy on the street. A person who’s fairly conventional, mainstream, accepting of life as it is. Ben: Salt of the earth. A man of the people. Jerry: But then I’ve got this friend, Ben, who challenges everything. It’s against his nature to do anything the same way anyone’s ever done it before. To which my response is always, “I don’t think that’ll work.” Ben: To which my response is always, “How do we know until we try?” Jerry: So I get to go through this leading-edge, risk-taking experience with Ben—even though I’m really just like everyone else. Ben: The perfect duo. Ice cream and chunks. Business and social change. Ben and Jerry. —Ben & Jerry’s Double-Dip As Henry Morgan’s plane passed over the snow-covered hills of Vermont’s dairy land, through his mind passed the events of the last few months. It was late January 2000. Morgan, the retired dean of Boston University’s business school, knew well the trip to Burlington. As a member of the board of directors of Ben & Jerry’s Homemade for the past 13 years, Morgan had seen the company grow both in financial and social stature. The company was now not only an industry leader in the super-premium ice cream market, but also commanded an important leadership position in a variety of social causes from the dairy farms of Vermont to the rainforests of South America. Increased competitive...

...Thompson−Strickland: Strategic Management: Concepts and Cases, 13th Edition 23. PepsiCo’s Acquisition of Quaker Oats Case © The McGraw−Hill Companies, 2002 1 case 23 PepsiCo’s Acquisition of Quaker Oats John E. Gamble University of South Alabama In 2001, PepsiCo was the world’s fifth-largest food and beverage company, with such brands as Lay’s, Tostitos, Mountain Dew, Pepsi, Doritos, Aquafina, and Lipton contributing to revenues of approximately $26 billion. PepsiCo’s revenues had reached $31 billion in 1996, but a new corporate strategy embarked upon in 1997 slimmed the company’s portfolio from a collection of fast-food restaurants, snack foods, and beverages to a sharply focused lineup of convenience foods and beverages. Between 1997 and 1999, CEO Roger Enrico spun off Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut as one independent, publicly traded company; created a stand-alone softdrink bottling business through an initial public offering; and entered additional snack and beverage categories with the acquisitions of Cracker Jack and Tropicana. Enrico’s focus on convenience foods and beverages placed PepsiCo in food and beverage categories that grew at twice the 2 percent industry growth rate and gave it a 2-to-1 market share lead over its nearest competitor in the convenience food and beverage industry. Roger Enrico and Quaker Oats Company’s CEO, Robert Morrison, jointly announced on December 4, 2000, that PepsiCo would acquire Quaker Oats...

Meningitis & Pneumonitis; Cases Presentation

...INTRODUCTION Review of Related Literature Pneumonitis Pneumonitis is a general term that refers to inflammation of lung tissue. It occurs when some irritating substance – solid particles, liquids, gases, radiation or bacteria – cause the tiny air sacs to become inflamed. This can hamper the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the air sacs. Pneumonia is one type of pneumonitis caused by an infection. There are several types of pneumonitis. They include: • Aspiration pneumonitis- occurs when you inhale (aspirate) foreign matter into your lungs. Stomach contents, such as ingested food or liquid, are a frequent cause of aspiration pneuomonitis. Accidental inhalation of small particles, such as tiny pieces of peanuts or vegetables, while swallowing is common in young children. • Chemical pneumonitis- is a type of aspiration pneumonitis that develops when you inhale chemicals that are toxic to your lungs. Industrial and household chemicals, such as chlorine gas, ammonia, solvents and pesticides can all cause chemical pneumonitis. • Hypersensitivity pneumonitis- is nicknamed “farmer’s lung,” “mushroom picker’s disease” and other colorful names with good reason. Dust from animal dander, molds and plants, all potential allergens, can provoke an inflammatory reaction in your lungs. Symptoms usually develop within six hours of exposure to the allergen. Some people are more susceptible to developing hypersensitivity pneumonitis than are others, although it’s...

Ice Cream Dessert

...Chapter I Introduction Ice cream is a frozen dessert usually made from dairy products, such as milk and cream, and often combined with fruits or other ingredients and flavors. Most varieties contain sugar, although some are made with other sweeteners. In some cases, artificial flavorings and colorings are used in addition to the natural ingredients. Philippines’ version for ice cream: Sorbetes is usually produced from unknown factories and sold from carts that roam the streets, exposing it to pollution. Thus, it is also called dirty ice cream; though it is not really dirty as the name implies. Kids love ice cream, and so do grown-ups, but to indulge in this frozen delight can mean a lot of fat and calories, depending on the choices. The calories in a cup of ice cream can vary anywhere from 180 to 600, depending on brand, fat content, sugar content, and flavor. Nonfat or fat-free ice creams contain virtually no fat: vegetable gums are added to make them creamy and mixtures are made in soft serve machines to whip in additional air and ice crystals. Most nonfat ice creams contain 90 to 100 calories per half cup but not all, leaving health-conscious consumers, who avoid calories and fat, fewer options, or none at all. A newly industrialized country, the Philippine economy has been transitioning from one based on agriculture to one based more on services and manufacturing. Despite this, the agricultural sector employs close to 32% of the country's total labor force of around...
