The 7 Habits of Highly Effectively People

Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw
Sharpen the Saw means preserving and enhancing the greatest asset we have. It means having a balanced program for self-renewal in the four areas of our life through physical, social/emotional, mental, and spiritual. This help us to build production capacity. We have to renew ourselves in this four areas as to create growth and change in our life. This habit can let us to practice the other six habits more clearly and correctly. We should maintain among the areas that I have mentioned.

From this habit, I learned to balance and renew my resources, energy, and health to create sustainable, long-term, effective lifestyle.
Habit 4 : Think Win/Win
Win/win situation is better than win/lose or lose/win situation. Win-win is a frame of mind and heart that constantly seeks mutual benefit in all human interactions. We should seek agreement and relationships that are mutually beneficial.

From this habit, I should have the three vital character which are integrity, maturity and abundance mentality will approach conflicts with a win-win attitude.
Habit 5: Seek first to Understand, then be understood
This is the habit of communication. Effective listening is very important. We should not only focus about the words being said, we should know the true meaning entirely. We should put ourselves in the perspective of the other person.
From this habit, I learned to use empathetic listening to be genuinely influenced by a person, which makes them to respond the listening and take an open mind to be influenced by me.

Habit 6: Synergize
Synergize is a habit of creative cooperation. Two is better than one. It is teamwork, open-mindedness, and the adventure of finding new solutions to old problems. Synergize let us to gain our ideas, strengths to make us become stronger and let us get a new insight.

From this habit, I learned to combine the strengths of people through positive teamwork, so that we can achieve the goals. We cannot get it done alone. Synergize can let me build unforeseen strengths.

Habit 3 : Put First Thing first
This habit is about life management as well. It is about our purpose, values, roles, and priorities. What are "first things?" First things are those things that we think are important things and most worth. Then we should make the things come and do it first.

From this habit, I learnedto plan, prioritize, and execute my tasks based on important rather than urgency. If I put first things first, I am organizing and managing time and events according to the personal priorities you established in Habit 2.
Habit 1 : Be Proactive
Being proactive means taking responsibility for everything in life. Highly effective people make the decision to improve their lives through the things that they can influence rather than simply reacting by external forces.Proactive people are "response-able" people. They don't blame genetics, circumstances, conditions, or conditioning for their behaviour. On the other hand, reactive people are often affected by their physical environment.

From this habit, I should have the ability to detach myself and observe myself, think about my thoughts. My choices affect my behaviour and I should follow my own principle rather than my feelings. Be proactive gives me the power not to be affected by my circumstances. I have the power of free will to choose our response.
Habit 2 : Begin with the end in mind
We should have our own vision and mission. All things are created twice. There is a mental/first creation, and a physical/second creation. The physical creation follows the mental. We empower other people and circumstances to shape us and our life by default if we still do not know who we are and what we want in our life.

From this habit, I can formulate a “personal mission statement” to document my perception of my own vision in life. I can extend the mission statement into long-term goal based on personal principle. With this statement, I can discover our own important character values, life goal.

...7 Habits of Highly Successful People Book Project 1. At the beginning of the class my management philosophy was something I felt was successful based on your skills, experience, and attitude within a corporate environment. The author Stephan Covey states that “Personality Ethic” was something that “Success became more a function of personality, of public image, of attitudes and behaviors, skills and techniques, that lubricate the processes of human interaction” that “this philosophy was expressed in inspiring and sometimes maxims such as Your attitude determines your altitude”. My reasoning for agreeing with this concept was due to my 20 plus years in corporate America dealing with various forms of management personalities. During my experiences I encountered managers what I’ve put in categories as: okay, good, great, dysfunctional, bad, and horrible. The horrible bosses range from a manager I previously had who had been arrested and charged for embezzlement, to supervisors who discussed employees company personal business during lunches. I have had supervisors who were unqualified with no college education experience nor prior knowledge of the job, to a Department manager who had worked her way up the ladder with only an high school education but was extremely knowledgeable and was hands down the best manager I have ever had. I was unfortunate enough to encounter a manager with various degrees and credentials but he had the worst management interpersonal skills...

7 Habits

...Seven habits of highly effective people Dr Stephen Covey is a hugely influential management guru, whose book The Seven Habits Of Highly Effective People, became a blueprint for personal development when it was published in 1990. The Seven Habits are said by some to be easy to understand but not as easy to apply. The 'Seven Habits' are a remarkable set of inspirational and aspiration standards for anyone who seeks to live a full, purposeful and good life, and are applicable today more than ever, as the business world becomes more attuned to humanist concepts. Covey's values are full of integrity and humanity, and contrast strongly with the process-based ideologies that characterized management thinking in earlier times. Covey says that we all have our own paradigm, which is our own map of how we perceive the world and how we think the world should be in our ideal view. Covey writes, "The way we see things is the source of the way we think and the way we act." HABIT 1 - BE PROACTIVE This is the ability to control one's environment, rather than have it control you, as is so often the case. Self determination, choice, and the power to decide response to stimulus, conditions and circumstances. Habit 2 - begin with the end in mind Covey calls this the habit of personal leadership - leading oneself that is, towards what you consider your aims. By developing the habit of concentrating on relevant activities you will build a platform to avoid...

7 Habits

...When facing a problem, human nature looks for a “quick fix.” Whether it is the latest diet fad or a get rich scheme, almost all “quick fixes” produce the same short-lived results and often no results at all. As a society, we are drawn to the appeal of a quick and easy route which leads to immediate results. We have grown accustomed to an easy lifestyle that uses superficial tactics when interacting with others. The problem with these quick fixes is that they deceive us into believing it is possible to avoid going through the natural process of work and growth, an essential process in order to change. These quick solutions not only try to cheat the system, but also cause us to lose touch with our inner values. In The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, Steven Covey addresses this issue by using universal principles to demonstrate how important work and growth are to achieving success. The title of this book is somewhat deceiving as it may seem a step-by-step guide about how a person can be successful in business. However, it is not and there is no such manual. This book is about changing one’s life not by adopting superficial tactics, but about adopting real, meaningful values and principles and applying them to all aspects in one’s life. Covey begins the book by discussing his rational for writing the book. He talks about the importance of applying our fundamental principles as opposed to trying to get by with superficial tactics. Reading this chapter I remembered...

She defines effective people as people that get the same desired results over and over again; in other words, they are consistent. In order to be effective, one must practice the seven habits she mentions: being proactive, beginning with the end in mind, putting first things first, thinking win-win, seeking first to understand and then be understood, synergizing, and sharpening the saw. Bradley goes through each of these habits describing what the habit entails and what the common mindset is about that habit or a lack of habit. Many of these habits can help one manage their stress. 7 Habits Essay

...7 Habits Essay We all develop habits that can have effects on our personality; people perceive these effects as positive or negative based on their productivity and helpfulness as a skill. In examining our habits closely, we can see areas that need improvement and should be targeted to become more efficient with our limited time on earth. From the way we act around others to the way we procrastinate, our habits define who we are. In the book, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Stephen Covey cites seven habits and lessons that one can use to become a more effective and highly regarded person. The first habit Covey describes states that one must always try to be proactive. Covey says that “our behavior is a function of our decisions, not our conditions” (71). Instead of our environment being responsible for our path in life, we can be proactive and accomplish the tasks we want to regardless of the circumstances. Effective leaders and people do not simply accept their surroundings and let their life be decided for them; they will rise up and take charge of their choices, bettering themselves and their lives in the process. Proactive people have a positive mindset and will always affect those around them in an encouraging manner. An example of a proactive person would be my friend, Will. Will always tries his best in everything he does and does not complain, no matter the circumstances he is given. He knows that it is always possible to make the best out of any situation...

7 Habits Summary

...A summary of the bestselling book by Stephen R. Covey. From The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey. Published by Simon & Schuster. INTRODUCTION Our character, basically, is a composite of our habits. Because they are consistent, often unconscious patterns, habits constantly express our character and produce our effectiveness or our in effectiveness. In the words of Aristotle, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” I identify here seven habits shared by all truly effective people. Fortunately, for those of us not born effective (no one is), these habits can be learned. Furthermore, the collective experience of the ages shows us that acquiring them will give you the character to succeed. Some years ago, I decided to read all the success literature published in the United States since its beginning in 1776 - hundreds of books, articles, and essays on self-improvement and popular psychology. I noticed a startling thing: Almost all the writings that helped build our country in its first 150 years or so identified character as the foundation of success. The literature of what we might call “The Character Ethic” helped Americans cultivate integrity, humility, fidelity, temperance, courage, justice, patience, industry, and the Golden Rule. Benjamin Franklin’s autobiography is a prime example. Compared with the early success literature, the writings of the last 50 years seem superficial to me - filled with social image...

7 Habits Successful People

...Amber Wennerstrom DSS Leadership Session 2 18 April 2012 The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey is a very insightful book providing an approach to obtain personal and interpersonal effectiveness. I really gained a lot from Covey’s different examples he provided in each chapter via family, business and society in general. Covey explains how a person must make a paradigm shift prior to incorporating these habits into their life. We have to be committed to ourselves before we can commit to others. I really find this “inside-out” approach inspiring as change starts with oneself. By incorporating these habits in our lives it will make success easier to obtain both personally and professionally and failure a lot easier to swallow as well. But before we make any changes in our lives we first have to focus on our own personal attitudes and behaviors. Habit number one discusses the importance of being proactive. In order to be proactive we have to possess the initiative to make things happen. Being proactive is the ability to respond positively to our circumstances. I have heard so many times the expression, “that’s just the way I am, “to me this is one of the most frustrating things one can say. I just want to tell them “No, that is the way you are choosing to be and there is something you can do about it.” We all have to bypass the negativity and find a way to focus our time and energy on being effective. Covey explains...

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

...THE 7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE ~ BY STEPHEN COVEY THE 7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE HABIT 1 : BE PROACTIVE Your life doesn't just "happen." Whether you know it or not, it is carefully designed by you. The choices, after all, are yours. You choose happiness. you choose sadness. you choose decisiveness. You choose ambivalence. You choose success. You choose failure. You choose courage. You choose fear. Just remember that every moment, every situation, provides a new choice. And in doing so, it gives you a perfect opportunity to do things differently to produce more positive results. Habit 1: Be Proactive is about taking responsibility for your life. You can't keep blaming everything on your parents or grandparents. Proactive people recognize that they are "response-able." They don't blame genetics, circumstances, conditions, or conditioning for their behavior. They know they choose their behavior. Reactive people, on the other hand, are often affected by their physical environment. They find external sources to blame for their behavior. If the weather is good, they feel good. If it isn't, it affects their attitude and performance, and they blame the weather. All of these external forces act as stimuli that we respond to. Between the stimulus and the response is your greatest power--you have the freedom to choose your response. One of the most important things you choose is what you say. Your language is a good indicator of how you see yourself. A proactive person...

7 Habits of Highly Effective Person

...The 7 Habits[edit] The book first introduces the concept of paradigm shift and helps the reader understand that different perspectives exist, i.e. that two people can see the same thing and yet differ with each other. On this premise, it introduces the seven habits in a proper order. Each chapter is dedicated to one of the habits, which are represented by the following imperatives: Independence[edit] The First Three Habits surround moving from dependence to independence (i.e., self-mastery): 1 - Be Proactive roles and relationships in life. 2 - Begin with the End in Mind envision what you want in the future so that you know concretely what to make a reality. 3 - Put First Things First A manager must manage his own person. Personally. And managers should implement activities that aim to reach the second habit. Covey says that rule two is the mental creation; rule three is the physical creation. Interdependence[edit] The next three habits talk about Interdependence (e.g. working with others): 4 - Think Win-Win Genuine feelings for mutually beneficial solutions or agreements in your relationships. Value and respect people by understanding a "win" for all is ultimately a better long-term resolution than if only one person in the situation had gotten his way. 5 - Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood Use empathic listening to be genuinely influenced by a person, which compels them to reciprocate the listening and take an open mind to being influenced by you...
