...A Simple Exchange of Niceties “I like benches. They make you feel as if people matter… They just sit and wait for you, an invitation that’s never revoked.”[1] This sentence in Joanne Felder’s short story, “A Simple Exchange of Niceties”, 2007, is very important. During her upbringing she has never really felt appreciated or special by her own mother, “My mother wouldn’t even put up the $500 bail for me. I guess I understand her point. I’m bad news”[2] It seems like she is very clear with who she is; she does not blame her mother – but instead she blames her self. She keeps away from social surroundings because they bring her back to her own childhood, “I got all panicky. She reminded me of my Nan who’s been dead for more than ten years”[3]. This is also why she is so attached to this bench – as she says herself, she feels welcome there, but it is also a dead piece of wood put together and therefore it can never hurt her like she has been hurt so many times before. It is the place where she can find peace and quietness in her mind. This is why the bench has such a big significance in the short story – it is the only place that she feels welcome and not judged. It is also the place where her life changes in many ways, “Since I’m already pregnant and all that, maybe I’ll just have it, and give it to her. It was the first time I had ever thought about coincidence and fate.”[4] Even though her pregnancy was an accident she now gives it a deeper thought and the meeting with the lady...

...Electronic Communication with Virtual Teams Tia Taylor CMC260 August 23, 2014 The term Virtual teams are used loosely among the average person, especially young adults. However, everyone at one point in their adult life has been a part of a virtual team and did not even know it. A virtual team is a group of people whose members communicate primarily through electronic and digital tools. Members of a virtual team may be within the same city or even across the world. (WebFinance, 2014) Whether you have had experience or are going to be new to a virtual team, the best way to familiarize yourself with the expectations are to compare the communication you have within social media to your new adventure with business partners. Your communication will be professional at all times yet; you will most likely not meet any of your teammates in person or face to face. Some of the platforms that you may often use within the team include emails, video conferencing tools such as the program Skype, and social media tools like those within LinkedIn or Facebook. Virtual teams allow organizations to bring people together to combine the best expertise, regardless of where they live. Take, for example, the countries Mexico, France, China and the United States and involve some representatives on a virtual team to conduct business. The individuals involved get to look forward to many benefits including working from the comfort of home and never having to take a flight...

...a man that decided to change the direction of his thoughts. Canfield made a choice to have positive thoughts of success and to not focus on the negative thoughts. Canfield decided what he wanted to become in his life. He set his mind and thoughts on nothing else, but that goal. The greatest teachers that have ever lived have told people of the power of positive thinking: poets from William Shakespeare, Robert Browning, and William Blake to great thinkers including Socrates, Plato, Sir Isaac Newton and Pythagoras. Greatness does not limit itself to a certain kind of person. There are many facts through out history that support the idea of having positive thoughts, and with those thoughts, bring positive results back to the thinker. It is very clear that - Positive Thinking will lead to having positive results. The Law of Attraction states like attracts like. In the book The Secret, Rhonda Byrne describes The Law of Attraction. Byrne breaks down the law’s principles in more detail and explains the power of positive thinking. Byrne states, “Everything that’s coming into your life you are attracting into your life. And it’s attracted to you by virtue of the images you’re holding in your mind. It’s what you’re thinking. Whatever is going on in your mind you are attracting to you” (4). ...in getting a good job in the first place. Learn public speaking skill from these articles and you will not only have more success on the job. Being able to get up in front of an audience and give a speech will greatly increase your confidence. The writer of these articles is a professional teacher with 20 years experience helping people speak more effectively. In addition to the articles, you can watch carefully chosen speeches, with comments added, that will show you how to be a great speaker. Before getting into details, here are five tips to help you get going: 1. Don't try to memorize a speech. Instead, use the "key points" approach, described in detail in Lesson 2. 2. Start strong with an interesting opening. It doesn't have to be brilliant, but it has to get the audience focused on your topic. Various ways to do this will be explained in Lesson 5. 3. Don't speak too fast! This is a very common problem as nervous speakers try to finish as quickly as possible. Instead, take your time, and your audience will listen more attentively. 4. Be careful when using visual aids, including (especially!) Power Point. They can be both distracting and confusing unless they are used appropriately. (See Lessons 11 and 14 for more on this topic.) 5. Close your speech strongly with a "call to action". These five tips will get you started as a successful public speaker. You already have an advantage over other speakers. Now, let's learn how to really do a great job by moving on to...

...Ivyanne London Dr. Bryan English 2010 7 December 2012 The Bhagavad- Gita: Influence on Civil Disobedience Advocates Civil disobedience can be described as the nonviolent means of bringing about social change. The Bhagavad- Gita is a philosophical poem that attempts to ask difficult questions of universal issues that deal with the topic of civil disobedience. The messages that are told throughout the poem have had major influences on civil disobedience advocates such as Henry David Thoreau, Mahatma Gandhi, and Martin Luther King. This work offers explanations that can be applied to dilemmas that can’t be resolved with a simple form of action. According to the Theosophical Society of America, The Bhagavad- Gita, commonly known as the “Gita” has been passed back and forth between America and India through these civil disobedience activists. They each had influences on each other along with the Gita. Some reoccurring themes that may have influenced Thoreau, Gandhi, and King include questions about the right way to live, seeking higher knowledge, and how no action is still a form of action. The version of The Bhagavad- Gita that is told in The Norton Anthology of World Literature, 3rd edition, begins with the moment of crisis in Arjuna’s mind. Arjuna is the middle son of his five brothers who are apart of the Pandavas. He is apart of the warrior caste and is the most skilled and feared archer of his time. They are about to engage in war with their cousins, the Kauravas, because...
