The traditional eight-hour workday has been long supported by trade unions, however, nurses are not apart of this trade. In fact, nurses have no existing national work hour restrictions. Three nurses would be needed on the schedule during the eight-hour shifts, whereas only two nurses would be needed on schedule during 12-hour shifts. As a result, having nurses work these long hours concluded to be more cost efficient after cost containment measures were installed in the healthcare system during the 1980's-1990's. Controversially, environments that had fewer nurses working on the unit with 12-hour shifts or longer showed a significant decrease in patient satisfaction. 8 Hours Research Paper

...A major problem for me at the moment is sleep and how much of it I’m getting. It’s known that the average person should be getting at least 8 hours of sleep daily, but it’s not that easy for me. I have had problems getting sleep for as long as I can remember. Rest is a big part of what mood you can be in and even how much you pay attention. So, for a highschool student like myself, I need to be getting as much rest as I can with my hectic schedule filled with school activities and homework. However, I find myself wide awake every night and never getting enough sleep to keep me energized for the entire day. I have tried constantly to sleep at an earlier time, but before I know it it’s 3am and I’m laying in bed wide awake. Whether it’s the weekend or weekday, I can never be like other people and get 8 hours of rest. If anything, I get 5 hours on a good night which is a loss of 3 whole hours. With this inability to sleep early, it causes me to feel drowsy in the morning and I often fall asleep in a majority of my classes, missing important lessons that could possibly be on future tests. Missing these important moments cause my grades to falter and makes my parents unhappy. On top of that it’s a constant struggle to try to pick my grades back up and get them where they need to be. Having my scores low is bad for my rank and could possibly affect my college life in the near future....

...PRODUCTION PLANNING AND CONTROL FOR REDUCING MANUFACTURING THROUGHPUT TIME Amey Dhar Dubey (fy7096) Arpit Sharma (fe2365) Bhavditya Sisodiya (fw6052) College of Engineering Wayne State University Detroit, Michigan ABSTRACT This paper scans the present state of Production Planning and Control (PPC) regarding the manufacturing industry. PPC needs to undergo internal and external changes by being more dynamic and properly utilizing resources and delivery performance. In order for this to happen, the concept of crashing much be applied to better understand of how different factors affect PPC systems performance. Crashing is reduces project time by overlapping or performing two or more different steps simultaneously using additional resources (PM PrepCast). Crashing the network is the reduction of project duration by contracting and compressing the network at minimum cost. Project duration can often be reduced by appointing more labours to project activities. However, when appointing more labours, the project cost increases due to overtime and more resources being used. Time and cost requirement must be balanced to reduce project duration. The gist of this paper covers production time, along with the cost applying the concept of crashing. In addition, time management with optimum cost is vital for any project. A method to obtain optimum cost and project duration minimization is outlined. This is achieved by fully crashing the critical path or by removing non-added...
