In 1988, my mother entered the United States while my father entered two years later. They both didn’t know how to speak English, it was a different world to them. My father worked minimum wage jobs while my mother became a housewife. Neither worried about school because they just needed money to live a financially stable life. Even though, they didn’t earn a college degree, both of them had their fair share of discrimination due to the fact they were different. Just because my mother wears a scarf they labelled her as a “terrorist and stupid.” While my father was discriminated against because he had an accent when he would speak English.

There shouldn’t be a right religion to follow or anything. We shouldn’t encourage someone to do something they don’t want to because it’s “hip”. Everyone should be able to decide what’s right for them. We should let our actions define who we are, but instead I feel like we let society define who are. For example, the yolo trend. Another example, is after 9/11 Muslims were being targeted on streets so people could seek rebubustation for the attack that a group of people classified themselves as “Muslims”.
Most people think Islam is a terrorist group and we only believe in violence, and the women only live to be “slaves” for their husband however this is far from the truth. I could say from first hand experience, that Islam is a religion with loving participants that will go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and are free willed. For example, when someone comes over to our house we make sure the person doesn’t have problems in their lives, if they do, we typically try to resolve the issues, and I believe my mother runs the household and not my father; she will tell my father what he can’t and shouldn’t
