Following 9/11 there was a sense of fear like no other into the minds of the American people. This fear was if Americans were safe from terrorist groups entering the US, and the trauma from what some Americans experienced on 9/11. In his novel, John Botte reflects on his thoughts after experiencing ground zero, "Along with thousands of others who lost loved ones to 9/11, I relive the events of that day every day” (Botte 5). Botte’s statement accurately reflects the emotions of many Americans, and after 9/11 the US sought to make some drastic changes to secure the US from external threats. Arguably the most controversial law put in place to protect the people was the Patriot Act. Put into action just 45 days after 9/11, the Patriot Act is still …show more content…
The federal government now was able to legally perform wiretaps, hide important information from suspects in a crime, obtain forced cooperation between government agencies, have access to any phone and email records, and much more. Some of the added government abilities did sound very intrusive, it was stated that these actions the government could take did not apply to 99% of the crimes in the US and that they would only be used to fight the war on terrorism. The Director of the FBI, Robert S. Mueller III, stated in a testimony the extreme benefits of the Patriot Act for the FBI, “for over two and a half years, the PATRIOT Act has proved extraordinarily beneficial in the war on terrorism and has changed the way the FBI does business. Many of our counterterrorism successes, in fact, are the direct results of provisions included in the Act” (Testimony by Robert S. Mueller III). Even though the Patriot Act had been viewed on as an intrusion of privacy, the power it gave government organizations to fight the war on terrorism is …show more content…
This statement by Bush marked the beginning of a new era of American Security, as the United States was becoming more transparent to the people after the attacks of 9/11. The Department of Homeland Security. Not only did this Act create more jobs for people to help assist in the fight against terrorism, but it also put numerous government agencies under the authority of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). “The new department will analyze threats, will guard our borders and airports, protect our critical infrastructure, and coordinate the response of our nation for future emergencies. This led to easier communication between government agencies and faster progress in preventing terrorist attacks (Richard J. Samuels, Homeland Security Act). The Homeland Security Act also helped in giving the government intel and conduct research on potential threats. According to the Homeland Security Act, ‘‘homeland security research’’ means research relevant to the detection of, prevention of, protection against, response to, attribution of, and recovery from homeland security threats, particularly acts of terrorism” (Homeland Security

...September 11, 2001 9/11 was an inside job. A bold statement to a beginning of a bold paper. Several credible people support this claim. 9/11 is a very touchy subject, as it should be. This research paper will offend most people. The attack was very real. The deaths were very real. The people responsible for the attack was not the Taliban. 9/11 was an inside job, 9/11 was a false flag operation designed to get the American people to back a war that we had no business to be in. Moving forward know this, I have the upmost respect for our military and the lives lost due to 9/11. I also have several people in my life that are active duty now as well as during the time of the 9/11 attacks. September 10, 2001 one day before the attacks. Secretary...

...One of the Muslim Leaders would include Zuhdi Jasser, President of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy, and also Stephen Schwartz, Executive Director of the Center for Islamic Pluralism. Another argument that many Muslims and other supporters of the Mosque are arguing is prior to the September 11 terrorists attacks there was a Mosque in the Twin Towers. Though, since 2001 the number of Mosques within the United States has increased by over 74%. (USAToday) As of today there are over 275 mosques in New York where Muslims can worship freely. (World Atlas) The rate of mosques in New York and increased greatly since the 9/11 terrorist attack, which shows the freedom of religion within the United States. The real question still remains as to why a mosque has to be built at “Ground Zero”. Fellow Muslims even believe prominent leaders in the construction of the Mosque are not for the Mosque in good faith. Such an act is strictly prohibited in the true beliefs of the Quran (Quran Explorer). There is in a sense enough reason to not build the mosque because prominent leaders of the Muslim religion even believe their fellow Muslims are not pursuing the construction in good faith of Islam, but rather as a...

...What if the September eleventh attack never happened? Would America be better or worse than it is today? The terrorist attacks create a great impact for people alive, present, or involved and they seem to be left with a scar that they carry with them forever. A lot of things have changed due to damaging attacks. After the terrorist attack of 2001, the U.S. was negatively affected because homeland security has increased dramatically, people have been a lot more cautious, and the citizens of America have become increasingly racist towards those of different ethnicities. After the 9/11 attack, security around the nation has greatly increased with more cops, and it affects people differently. The number of people in the police departments has increased since 2001. This is a good and a bad thing. It is good because that means we are safer, but at the same time we are not. We are not safe at the same time because a lot of people are being killed or abused by those in the police force. America is said to be the “land of the free, and the home of the brave,” but it is more like “home of the brave and...

...9-11 was a tragic event both for the Muslims and the American victims and their families. As a matter of fact the tragedy of 9-11 had nothing to do with any Muslim matters. Some Muslims were seen exulted by the collapse of the twin towers but that proved their lack of understanding of the real Muslim issues and global issues. May be this exultation was a reflection of anger and outrage against America in the world. Still now for most Muslims all over the world the 9-11 incidents remain an uncomfortable event and makes Muslims uneasy. If the nineteen or so Arab men were involved in bringing the planes down to the World Trade Centers buildings then it was the result of their wrong understanding of the total Muslim issues. Besides it was not within their capabilities to bring the planes up...

...When thinking about the sinking of the Lusitania and the attack of 9/11, what comes to mind are the phases of disaster the victims may have experience. The victims will respond to a disaster often by move through the following four phases of disaster response. The phases are: The heroic phase, the honeymoon phase, the disillusionment phase, and the reconstruction (Adams, 1999) the heroic phase, the first of the four phases of disaster is the one most people experience heedlessly of the type of disaster they are facing. Both after the Lusitania and 9/11 disaster happened bystanders rushed to the aid of others in need. After the Lusitania was hit and sinking, fishermen that were in the area put their own lives at risk and came to the aid of anyone who was still alive and then later helped recover bodies. ...Other acts of hate toward Arabs and Muslims other than murder, such as physical assaults, verbal harassment, intimidation, attacks on mosques, vandalism, arson, and other property damage, made living in America increasingly difficult. The victims of the backlash of the 9/11 attacks did not have any evidence indicating that they were somehow involved. In 2001, reported data by the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR Program) showed over a 1,600 percent increase from the previous year in Anti-Islamic religion incidents. The number of hate crimes against Muslims decreased but remained higher than before the 9/11 attacks. A suspension of Arab and Muslim American civil rights was enacted when the government decided that ethnic profiling was necessary...
