As we ran to the house I said a quick prayer along the way. Did something happen to Sarah and was Mrs. Betty okay? Lord as I reached the kitchen where Sarah was holding the phone to her ear crying. I looked for grandmother but she was nowhere in sight, then I moved closer to Sarah and saw Mrs. Betty on the floor. ...lack of belts made Chris wonder why they were even going to Mike's house for the weekend. The temperature must have dropped because Emily was shivering. When Chris looked down all he could see was a black abyss. The lift stopped, Emily noticed that the building they were headed into had its lights turned on. Emily thought. The gears again and the lift continued its course. The building was dimly lit, this time with 4 incandescent bulbs that also hung by wires, and contained nothing more than a switchboard and a map of the mountain. The map was printed on a wide paper that had yellowed with age, the map showed six cabins, a radio tower, a mineshaft and at the very top was a medical building, crossed out with red sharpie. She shivered, it was 9:57 and cold, too cold. Emily looked around, Chris’s face was flushed, the ride must have shaken him. He just stood there looking out at the window with a blank expression, “ I think i just saw someone in the woods.” He breathed “I think it was Ashley.” “Let's go check it out, what the worst that could happen?” Demanded Emily The mountain seemed to never end, the trees went on for miles in each direction. Emily checked her phone. Two bars. “Maybe you should text mike” Chris chattered. They had followed the path that Mike lit with Tiki torches, but it ended at a wall of trees. “We should just go” Chris’s teeth never stopped clicking, it was like they were trying to jump from his mouth. “Alright, but you're going in the front” Emily said,...

...The past couple of days had gone by in a whirl that Ian barely had time to process them. One minute he was going through his daily routine and the next, Mickey was back in his life giving him that thrill he never thought he’d ever feel again. It crazy how much time had passed since they last saw each other and yet, it was like no time had passed at all. The same sparks were there as they had been all those years ago when Ian barged into the Milkovich house with a pipe. Jesus. Had it really been that long? Ian glanced over at Mickey, who was looking up at the night sky. The corners of his lips pulled upwards as he thought about Mickey’s earlier words. Hey, you ever think back in the day, this is where we’d be? Ian had given him a different answer, but still, his mind flashed back to that night on the baseball field after Mickey had just gotten out of juvie. The older boy had dismissed the idea of them looking for shooting stars while spread out on a blanket. While they weren’t looking for shooting stars, they were still lying on the blanket Mickey had found in the car they had stolen. His phone buzzed, interrupting his reminiscing and out of the corner of his eye, he could see Mickey look at him with a brow raised as if asking, “you gonna check that?” Ian rolled his eyes and took his phone out of his pocket, knowing it was probably Trevor again wondering where he was. He had been ignoring his texts and calls, this time would be no different. He would deal with it later. Ian...

...she had a headache and stiff muscles. When she tried to move, she couldn’t. She opened her eyes and became aware of the mess she was in. Next to her, Hugo, Sylvia, Ethan, and Avery were all unconscious, bound to a pole along with her. She didn’t recognize the room they were in, and the smell was that of a spring morning. She felt movement to her left. She moved away in surprise only to find that Ethan had woken up. Then Sylvia. The Hugo. Then Avery. Like clockwork. “Where the heck are we?” Ethan asked, weariness apparent in his voice. “You’re in WAVE Headquarters, my dear.” Their heads shot up at the new voice. There, stood a tall figure. She had long brown hair put up in a high ponytail. Aurora’s assessment of the older woman was cut short when Avery screamed, “Mom?” A mixture of fury and surprise roared through her. “Yes, dear. You’ve grown since the last time I saw you! You’ve grown up into a wonderful adult.” “You died. I went to the funeral; I saw your body.” Avery screamed, her fury winning out. “That was just so I could focus on my career, dear. I couldn’t possibly be a mother and run WAVE.” “You left Me and Dad alone so you could run, this...this, whatever this is? Your death destroyed him. He stopped working and started drinking, because of you. He’s dead because of you.” she could barely say, her eyes starting to water. “Do you know what that does to a ten-year-old? First having to endure her mother dying in a horrible lab explosion, then seeing your dad slowly...

...As she grew up, no one would dare look at her. She would walk across the school hallways, speeding to get to her class, no one by her side while the others murmured words about her in each other's ears. In class was the only time she could feel normal, even though she wasn't. Her family would only talk to her. They were all afraid, not wanting to get involved with her. They made her feel worse than the gossipers at school, who only spread rumours about her. Her family would occasionally greet her, feed her then wouldn't have any communication with her until she needed to drive to school. It wasn't until she was sixteen when someone finally decided to talk to her. It was a cold morning during July and the first class of the day: maths. Every other student hated maths except for Kendall. Kendall liked math— in fact it was her favourite subject! The class was unusually quiet due to the fact that Chloe East, a loud troublemaker had moved class since the math teacher had enough of her. She was scribbling down the notes on the board when a student walked in. "Nia Frazier will be in the place of Chloe East, as Chloe has been moved to a different class," A another teacher said, "Sorry for interrupting your class, Mr. Matthews." "No, thank you for coming principal," Mr. Matthews shared a smile with Madison, "Welcome to our math class Nia. Have a seat next to Kendall, I'm sure you know who she is." Kendall's face turned tomato red and her gaze turned to the floor. Of course, everyone...

...On the monitor, a woman - naked and bloody, with arms and legs spread-eagled - was bound to a tree. The man watched in anticipation as a hooded figure emerged from off-camera to slash at her torso with a hunting knife. Her shrieks of pain rattled through the speakers, and pierced his eardrums, but that was nothing compared to those when the figure shoved the hunting knife in her ravaged cunt, and disappeared from sight. One final insult. The viewers were left to watch her head loll back, eyes pop open, and torso first convulse, then go limp. Rivers of crimson ran down her skin and pooled in the pile of dead leaves at her feet. As the grainy film faded to black, the scream died with her and the man seated in the chair in front of the screened convulsed with the throes of an orgasm. The urge was building, he could feel it in every fibre of his being and had begun to consume his thoughts. Soon the only thing he'd be able to think would would be the desire to hurt and maim. To force a woman to beg and plead for her life, to cause her to scream in terror, and bare her teeth in agony as the tears flowed down her cheeks. He'd watch her eyes, awaiting the dawning realisation within them that it wasn't a dream, that he wasn't a man capable of compassion or mercy, and there would be no last-minute stay of execution. That aroused him, more than anything, that look. The one that flashed across their faces when the last shred of hope was torn away, and they accepted, finally, that they were...

...Two figures sped down the streets, blinding lights and shouts were following close behind in the darkness of the night. The two made a sharp turn into an alleyway, the voices passing them and continuing onward. They bent down, gasping for breath, inhaling as much air as they could as their exhales came out fast and hard. The two turned to one another, sharing a look of relief as the flashing lights died down as well. One figure poked his head before looking back and asking, “Do you think we are ok now?” He then sighed, saying, “Wow, I knew something was going to happen, but I didn’t think it would be this bad Drake.” Drake quieted his breathing before looking up, “I didn't ask for this Shing, how would I know what would happen?” He said with slight agitation in his voice, before sighing, “I hope Aspen is ok back home right now, but we should wait for a few more minutes before we head back.” Shing nodded, silently apologizing before pushing his back to the wall and slowly sliding down. Drake looked down at Shing as he fumbled with his hands, “Are you ok?” He asked after a few seconds of silence. Shing looked up and shrugged, his brown eyes clouded with an emotion that Drake couldn't read. He sat down next to Shing and started to mess with the dirt around them, engraving a picture of a bird into the ground, before brushing it away with his hand. “Should we head back now?”, Shing asked after a few minutes. He pulled himself up and extended his arm out so that Drake could grab it...

What’s strange is, anything that’s her’s she keeps beautiful, but anything that’s mine she completely destroys.
