...Ashton T. Mason Ms. Denny Engl. 1101 28 Jan 2016 The Consequences of 9/11 September 11, 2001 is a day that many Americans will never forget. On that morning, the United States of America was viciously attacked by terrorists, resulting in thousands of lives being lost. Both the Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon in Washington DC were destroyed. The tragic events of September 11, 2001, forever transformed American society by implementing new defense mechanisms and combating terrorism, as well as igniting the patriotism of US citizens. In the wake of 9/11, the United States of America was no longer seen as the untouchable superpower. America’s weakness was exposed and the country’s vulnerability was seen worldwide; thereby making the US an international target. Terrorist attacks rapidly increased both from outside adversaries and even some home grown terrorists’ cells. Case in point, the Boston Marathon Bombing was a terrorist attack orchestrated by two Russian American brothers, which resulted in a few fatalities and numerous injuries. Because Al Qaeda, an Islamic anti-American group, is responsible for the majority of these terrorist attacks, many Muslims faced incited racial profiling and bullying. In an effort to curtail terrorism, the United States government overhauled its defense operations. A new agency, Department of Homeland Security, dedicated to safeguarding the country was created. A five level color coded system, ranging from low to...

My first article I am reviewing “estimates the impact that the 9/11 terrorists attacks had on the U.S. labor market outcomes of individuals...

In the context of a terrorist attack, risk is a product of an attack, the openness a community or entity faces regarding a terrorist attack, and the consequences of the impact a terrorist attack can cause (U.S. Department of Homeland Security, 2012). A terrorist attack may come in many different forms, and first responders must be adaptable and have an appropriate strategy to address a variety of terrorist attacks that may include, but are not limited to car bombings, suicide bombings, IED’s, chemical attacks, assassinations, kidnappings, hijackings, and missile attacks (Graeme & Clarke, 2008)....

The event was a crucial moment in U.S. history. After it was discovered that the attacks were delivered by Al-Qaeda, the information sparked intense debate in the political world. Former President George W. Bush decided to pass a large amount of U.S. legislation to strengthen U.S. National Security. The impact of 9/11 is clearly visible in the policies adopted by the United States government in the wake of the disaster. On October 7, 2001, the United States invaded Afghanistan in response to the September 11 attacks. On March 20, 2003, the Iraq War began. Many people feel that the changes put forth by the U.S. government have benefited the livelihood of Americans. This might be true as the United States has not experienced a major terrorist attack since September 11, 2001. Other people feel that the spending has hurt the United States economy, pushing America into a series of economic downfalls. US GOVERNMENT CHANGES SINCE 9/11 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance...

...non-state actors, have used terrorism as a tactic for hundreds of years, scholars differ in their opinions about the nature and consequences of terrorist attacks in recent years. Among other questions they ask: Did the terrorist attacks of 9/11 change the international system? Have non-state actors increased in relevance since the attacks. The terrorist attacks of 9/11 were an eye opening experience for many Americans. The amount of television coverage and visual trauma shown to the nation increased the brutality of the events. Religious and militant groups have used terrorism as a tactic for hundreds of years. The events on 9/11 were not an isolated event and instead a continuation of a long series of attempted attacks. The difference is that on this day the terrorist group achieved some amount of success relative to their ultimate goals. The attacks of 9/11 caused nearly 3000 people to lose their life. These deaths were directly caused by the attacks and an unknown amount of deaths have occurred indirectly as a result of the attacks. The attacks represented the deadliest terrorist attacks on record since 1970. The attacks were the first of its king, a successful hijacking of an airplane to destroy a building. One of the most horrific elements of terrorism is the use of children as combatants for the use of terrorist attacks. Estimates indicate that up to several hundred thousand children as young as 7 years old are exploited in movements by rebel governments. Oftentimes...

...9/11 I chose the events of 9/11 for my research paper because there has not been any other even in U.S. history that has changed America as much as the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Not even when Japan attack Pearl Harbor had such an attack on the U.S. changed the way we live or the way we see things. Yes the attack on Pearl Harbor sent the U.S. to war but the 9/11 attacks have not only changed our thinking but also implemented a new system to alert Americans when there could be another attack on U.S. soil. There has been so much talk on the events of 9/11 from it being another country to it being the work of the government to hide information to wanting to start a war. Which it did, American forces invaded Afghanistan to search for Osama Bin Laden. The thought that someone could hijack commercial airliners (Boeing 767s) and use them to attack high rises, not only high rises but U.S. landmarks and also the Pentagon which houses the military headquarters in the United States. There were four airliners hijacked that day with three of them hitting their marks and the fourth one crashing in a Pennsylvania field. The attacks are the worst terrorist attacks to ever happen on U.S. soil, resulting in more than 3,000 people were killed due to the attacks on New York and Washington D.C. After the first plane hit the north tower of the World Trade Center on the 80th floor, it trapped hundreds of people above the fiery inferno and they started evacuating the north tower. Within...

...Before 9/11, airport security was not as tightly as controlled. It was only when the lives of nearly 3,000 people including 19 terrorist on September 11th that created a major worldwide change in the way that airport security should be perceived. Prior to 9/11, there were major problems in airport security that terrorist saw and took advantage of to enable them to successfully commit the terrorist attack. Despite all the changes to airport security since 9/11, airport security has been one of the key concerns for airport management ever since. Airliners are still a favourable target for terrorist and one effective way to stop terrorist is firstly from the measures implemented in airport security. The tragic events of 9/11 have certainly provided...

...Since 9/11, The People in This Country Have Become More Security Conscious The terrorist attacks of 9/11 will be remembered as one of the most profound events that changed America drastically. People do not feel safe when the travel as they did before the terrorist attacks. Today just about everyone is a suspect. I saw on a talk show where a 5yr old boy from Normandy Park, FL. was detained and searched by TSA all because he has the same name as a terrorist who was wanted by the Federal Government. This country has become more security conscious since 9/11 because the security at airports nationwide has been increased and reformed; the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has been created by the Bush Administration (the creation of DHS constituted the biggest government reorganization in American history); and America is becoming a closed border country. The type of country that the United States was before the terrorist attacks is totally different than the country that exists today. Heightened airport security is one example of increased security consciousness in America. After the devastating terrorist attack of 9/11, airport security has been the focus of America war on terror. Trying to curtail future terrorist attacks has become just as important as hunting down those who have been responsible for terrorist attacks in the past. The increased security in airports around the country has caused many flight delays. Protecting America has become a major priority...

...Laden was assassinated by United States Navy Seals in his compound in Pakistan. Osama Bin Laden was an infamous terrorist who led attacks on the United States and several of its allies. He created the jihadist group called Al-Qaeda, which he used to carry out several major terrorist attacks across the world. Although Bin Laden could have been interrogated for information, his assassination was justified because he organized the 9/11 terrorist attack, he had an extreme hatred for the United States, and he was the leader of Al-Qaeda. The September 11th terrorist attack was the worst terrorist attack in the history of the United States. Approximately 2,753 people died in the attack after a total of four planes crashed into the North and South World Trade Centers, the Pentagon, and a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania (CNN Library, September 11th Terror Attacks). Additionally, on December 13, 2001, the United States government released a video of Osama Bin Laden claiming responsibility for the September 11th terrorist attack(CNN Library, September 11th). This evidence shows that his assassination was justified because the terrorist attack killed thousands of people and the video shows...

...Assignment 6 Final Draft Following the horrific events of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, the United States has been unable to completely restore our trust in Middle Eastern nations and people for fear that they will plan another terrorist attack against us. In a post-9/11 world where Americans have become accustomed to associating Middle Easterners with terrorists, season 2 episode 1 of the television series 24 conveys this concept of otherness and the othering of Middle Easterners through its manipulation of time to show the dehumanization of Arabs as a threat to society and to stress the immediacy with which Americans must act against to such dangers. In this scene, 24 employs film analysis elements including windowing and time stamps to manipulate time in a way that emphasizes the immediacy of these actions and alters time as if it were real-time in order to show how Middle Easterners are often “othered” in a post-9/11 world. After the President of the United States has learned of the impending terrorist attack that is to occur in Los Angeles later that day, he says to a colleague that “there is a terrorist with his finger on a trigger, and [they’ve] got to get him.” While he is giving this statement, the episode employs a windowing effect in which the president is speaking in the top half of the screen and a Middle Eastern man, named Reza Naiyeer, is presented on the bottom half while he is driving in a convertible and speaking Arabic on the phone. The use...

American Airlines Flight 77 was crashed into the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense, widely known as The Pentagon. The fourth plane was United Airlines Flight 93. Despite being targeted at Washington, D.C, its passengers tried to overcome the hijackers and ended up being crashed into an open field in Pennsylvania. The attacks killed approximately 3000 people. Among them included all 19 hijackers and the 227 passengers who were aboard the four planes. The 9/11 terrorist attacks are considered the most fatal case for firefighters in United States history. ...ones. Many people just sit in disbelief when they see a terrorist attack, whether it be on tv or right next to them. Explaining what he thinks about the reaction in the United States against terrorism, Anup Shah said, “It was with disbelief and shock that people around the world saw footage of the terrorist attack in the U.S...”(Shah). Terrorism is horrific and must be stopped for the safety of our loved ones. Terrorism is also a worldwide problem, everywhere people's safety is being taken and destroyed by these horrendous events. Terrorism has caused global fear around the world and has taken the peace from people’s lives. Three events that have taken the peace from people’s lives are the attack of 9-11, Osama Bin Laden, and Al Qaeda and in understanding these events, hopefully they can be prevented. First, the tragedy that happened on September 11th, 2001 was possibly one of the worst incidents of this time for the United States. Many people lost their lives and safety that day. Four separate planes were hijacked that day by terrorists and their intent was to hit the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the White House. Luckily, some men upon one of the planes stood up to the terrorists and landed the plane in a field in Pennsylvania instead of hitting the white house. K. Lee Kerner said, On September 11, 2001, 19 al-Qaeda-trained terrorists hijacked four U.S. commercial airliners. The hijackers crashed...
