The Consequences of 9/11
September 11, 2001 is a day that many Americans will never forget. On that morning, the United States of America was viciously attacked by terrorists, resulting in thousands of lives being lost. Both the Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon in Washington DC were destroyed. The tragic events of September 11, 2001, forever transformed American society by implementing new defense mechanisms and combating terrorism, as well as igniting the patriotism of US citizens.
In the wake of 9/11, the United States of America was no longer seen as the untouchable superpower. America’s weakness was exposed and the country’s vulnerability was seen worldwide; thereby making the US an international target. Terrorist attacks rapidly increased both from outside adversaries and even some home grown terrorists’ cells. Case in point, the Boston Marathon Bombing was a terrorist attack orchestrated by two Russian American brothers, which resulted in a few fatalities and numerous injuries. Because Al Qaeda, an Islamic anti-American group, is responsible for the majority of these terrorist attacks, many Muslims faced incited racial profiling and bullying. In an effort to curtail terrorism, the United States government overhauled its defense operations. A new agency, Department of Homeland Security, dedicated to safeguarding the country was created. A five level color coded system, ranging from low to severe, was created to convey the country’s current terror threat status level. New rules dealing with airport security, entertainment venues, and privacy laws were also introduced. Long gone were the days of the emotional goodbyes at the terminal gates. After 9/11, only ticket holders were allowed to pass the security checkpoint. Additional airport safety measures that were introduced were passenger full body scans, all items that could be potentially used as weapons were banned, and air marshals were posted on all flights. Likewise, the sports and entertainment industry enforced certain regulations such as conducting bag searches and only allowing clear bags in the venue to ensure the safety of the people in attendance. Furthermore, Congress passed the Patriotic Act, a law that requires surveillance cameras to operate for 24 hours every day in public areas. Although these security procedures have proven to be successful over the years, it has unfortunately resulted in Americans losing some privacy.
In the aftermath of 9/11, citizens became more patriotic and expressed love for their country. American pride and appreciation was displayed outwardly through flags, ribbons, and apparel. Also, many Americans wanted to actively defend their country. As a result, there was an increase in enrollment in the military, fire and police departments. For example, Pat Tillman, who was killed in the line of duty, displayed heroism and made the ultimate sacrifice when he chose to leave the NFL (National Football League) in order to serve his country. If there was one positive outcome from 9/11 it was that Americans joined together to present a united front in protecting our country and its values.
The catastrophic experience of 9/11 left long lasting effects which are still evident today. No life went untouched or unscathed by this horrible incident. Despite the horror of September 11, 2001, the United States emerged from the experience as a more resilient and conscientious nation. Continual advancements in the areas of security, technology, and public vigilance will help defend the nation and shield the US from future terror attacks.

Among other questions they ask: Did the terrorist attacks of 9/11 change the international system? Have non-state actors increased in relevance since the attacks. The terrorist attacks of 9/11 were an eye opening experience for many Americans. The amount of television coverage and visual trauma shown to the nation increased the brutality of the events. Religious and militant groups have used terrorism as a tactic for hundreds of years. The events on 9/11 were not an isolated event and instead a continuation of a long series of attempted attacks. The difference is that on this day the terrorist group achieved some amount of success relative to their ultimate goals. The attacks of 9/11 caused nearly 3000 people to lose their life. 911 Research Paper

...9/11 I chose the events of 9/11 for my research paper because there has not been any other even in U.S. history that has changed America as much as the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Not even when Japan attack Pearl Harbor had such an attack on the U.S. changed the way we live or the way we see things. Yes the attack on Pearl Harbor sent the U.S. to war but the 9/11 attacks have not only changed our thinking but also implemented a new system to alert Americans when there could be another attack on U.S. soil. There has been so much talk on the events of 9/11 from it being another country to it being the work of the government to hide information to wanting to start a war. Which it did, American forces invaded Afghanistan to search for Osama Bin Laden. The thought that someone could hijack commercial airliners (Boeing 767s) and use them to attack high rises, not only high rises but U.S. landmarks and also the Pentagon which houses the military headquarters in the United States. There were four airliners hijacked that day with three of them hitting their marks and the fourth one crashing in a Pennsylvania field. The attacks are the worst terrorist attacks to ever happen on U.S. soil, resulting in more than 3,000 people were killed due to the attacks on New York and Washington D.C. After the first plane hit the north tower of the World Trade Center on the 80th floor, it trapped hundreds of people above the fiery inferno and they started evacuating the north tower. Within...

9/11 Tach

...Since 9/11, The People in This Country Have Become More Security Conscious The terrorist attacks of 9/11 will be remembered as one of the most profound events that changed America drastically. People do not feel safe when the travel as they did before the terrorist attacks. Today just about everyone is a suspect. I saw on a talk show where a 5yr old boy from Normandy Park, FL. was detained and searched by TSA all because he has the same name as a terrorist who was wanted by the Federal Government. This country has become more security conscious since 9/11 because the security at airports nationwide has been increased and reformed; the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has been created by the Bush Administration (the creation of DHS constituted the biggest government reorganization in American history); and America is becoming a closed border country. The type of country that the United States was before the terrorist attacks is totally different than the country that exists today. Heightened airport security is one example of increased security consciousness in America. After the devastating terrorist attack of 9/11, airport security has been the focus of America war on terror. Trying to curtail future terrorist attacks has become just as important as hunting down those who have been responsible for terrorist attacks in the past. The increased security in airports around the country has caused many flight delays. Protecting America has become a major priority...

Who Is Osama Bin Laden Justified?

...Laden was assassinated by United States Navy Seals in his compound in Pakistan. Osama Bin Laden was an infamous terrorist who led attacks on the United States and several of its allies. He created the jihadist group called Al-Qaeda, which he used to carry out several major terrorist attacks across the world. Although Bin Laden could have been interrogated for information, his assassination was justified because he organized the 9/11 terrorist attack, he had an extreme hatred for the United States, and he was the leader of Al-Qaeda. The September 11th terrorist attack was the worst terrorist attack in the history of the United States. Approximately 2,753 people died in the attack after a total of four planes crashed into the North and South World Trade Centers, the Pentagon, and a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania (CNN Library, September 11th Terror Attacks). Additionally, on December 13, 2001, the United States government released a video of Osama Bin Laden claiming responsibility for the September 11th terrorist attack(CNN Library, September 11th). This evidence shows that his assassination was justified because the terrorist attack killed thousands of people and the video shows...

Final Draft

...Assignment 6 Final Draft Following the horrific events of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, the United States has been unable to completely restore our trust in Middle Eastern nations and people for fear that they will plan another terrorist attack against us. In a post-9/11 world where Americans have become accustomed to associating Middle Easterners with terrorists, season 2 episode 1 of the television series 24 conveys this concept of otherness and the othering of Middle Easterners through its manipulation of time to show the dehumanization of Arabs as a threat to society and to stress the immediacy with which Americans must act against to such dangers. In this scene, 24 employs film analysis elements including windowing and time stamps to manipulate time in a way that emphasizes the immediacy of these actions and alters time as if it were real-time in order to show how Middle Easterners are often “othered” in a post-9/11 world. After the President of the United States has learned of the impending terrorist attack that is to occur in Los Angeles later that day, he says to a colleague that “there is a terrorist with his finger on a trigger, and [they’ve] got to get him.” While he is giving this statement, the episode employs a windowing effect in which the president is speaking in the top half of the screen and a Middle Eastern man, named Reza Naiyeer, is presented on the bottom half while he is driving in a convertible and speaking Arabic on the phone. The use...
