Most Important Event in U.S History The most important event in United States history is the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks because it was the first time America received attack on its mainland soil, it caused massive destruction, and it changed America’s connotation of the term “terrorist.” The history of these attacks is highly important because it shows how they were able to penetrate American society by changing the citizens’ racial mindset on Muslims and also because they affected the United States’ sense of supremacy and security.
These terrorist attacks not only killed innocent human beings, demolished two building, but it also destroyed several American symbols. The World Trade Center represented America’s economic and political, and the Pentagon symbolized America’s military power. When the three planes crashed into these buildings the stability of America was put into jeopardy. These planes not only hit these buildings but they also attacked the groundwork of America’s strength and authority.
The 9/11 attacks were the first inland attacks on America, this clearly displayed the global powerhouse’s vulnerability. These unsuspected acts of terrorism were single handedly able to bring the United States to its knees. Most Americans had never thought that the great nation of America was not susceptible to mainland attacks but unfortunately that was wrong. The world viewed America as an indestructible fortress, but the planes hit the very foundation of this perception.
Since the attacks, prejudice attitudes towards Muslim Americans tremendously increased, which are specifically seen through the burning and vandalizing of mosques or when airplane passengers refuse to board planes with Muslim people.
