...Music from the 90’s has had effects on many things and has paved the way for the music that we have now. There was a lot of music from the 90’s and a lot of people reacted to the music in different ways. There were many music festivals and tours. For those festivals to be made there were many genres of music, because without those different types of music the festivals and music, in general, would be boring. With all these different genres people got inspired to make more, although most people dressed like there idles did, more on that later. I will start off by explaining the different genres. Like I have stated, there were many genres. With the many genres, there were many bands. If I listed all the bands I would be here all day. With all...

However, there rose a problem when the saxophone player went off key, perhaps it was because of a change...

...Running head: MUSIC AND ITS RELATIONSHIP TO OVERALL INTELLECT !1 ! ! ! ! ! Music And its Relationship To Overall Intellect Kymberlie Joy Hurd College of Southern Nevada ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Author Note This research paper was done for Psychology 240, Section 4001, taught by Professor Mason MUSIC AND ITS RELATIONSHIP TO OVERALL INTELLECT Abstract A review of previous studies was conducted to test and measure the correlation of music and its influence on various levels of intellect. Subjects range in age from 9 to 67 and education from elementary school to undergraduate and beyond. Analysis included studies of subjects who listened to music and subjects that have varying levels of musical training. While some studies found significant results in some areas of cognition, intelligence and memory, they were inconsistent and concluded that further testing was needed. This review examines further the question of causation with music as a variable with a direct effect to a subject’s intellect as addressed by Schellenberg (2011). To understand if there is a direct relationship between music and intellect, further research of a subject’s background and mentality is required. !2 ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! MUSIC AND ITS RELATIONSHIP TO OVERALL INTELLECT Title of Paper Here Many studies have sought to provide a significant and reliable relationship between music as a factor of a subject’s intelligence or memory retention. The results are often conflicting within each experiment...

...Music was his total life and commitment. In twentieth century music, he may yet one day be recognized as one of the half-dozen greatest masters of our time. Ellington signed exclusively to Brunswick in 1932 and stayed with them through late 1936 albeit with a short-lived 1933-34 switch to Victor when Irving Mills temporarily moved him and his other acts from Brunswick. As the depression worsened, the recording industry was in crisis, dropping over 90% of its artists by 1933. Radio exposure helped maintain popularity as Ellington and his orchestra began to tour. The other records of this era include:’’ mood indigo’’ (1930), “Sophisticated Lady” (1933), “Solitude” (1934), and “ In a sentimental mood” (1935). The Ellington orchestra had a huge following overseas, demonstrated by the success of their trip to England in 1933 and their 1934 visit to the European mainland. The English visit saw Ellington win praise from members of the “serious” music community. He had composed and recorded Creole Rhapsody as early as 1931. On the band’s tour through the segregated South in 1934, they avoided some of the traveling difficulties of African-Americans by touring in private railcars. These provided easy accommodations, dining...

...with 90% hearing loss. This was my second time seeing the movie; I had seen it one other time way before I had ever decided to become a CSD undergraduate. When I saw it the first time I paid little attention to the store line of having a deaf child and how it was a life-changing event for parents. Rather I paid more attention to the drama of Mr. Holland’s teaching career. Through out the whole time I watched the movie I thought about how important the roll of an audiologist is as a counselor to the family when there is a diagnosis of severe hearing loss at a young age. It is obvious when Mr. Holland is putting headphones on his pregnant wife’s belly that he wants his unborn child to have as much music appreciation for music as he does. We see Mr. Holland’s character struggle to accept that his son won’t ever be able to appreciate music in the same way as him. Before Cole is diagnosed with 90% hearing loss there are scenes that show Mr. Holland playing the piano and having fun with his son. As the movie progresses and Cole is diagnosed with the hearing loss, Mr. Holland realizes that he will never be able to share his passion for music with is son. Mr. Holland begins to distance him self from his son by focusing more on work, and music. Making very little time to learn sign language or focus on his son. A significant scene in the movie to me is when we see Mr. Holland’s reaction to his son pretending to be directing the band, and doesn’t realize that the music is over...

...Christian Music is my favorite genre of music. Now, the term ‘genre’ means “a specific type of music, film, or writing” according to vocabulary.com, but my example is a little bit broader than the actual definition of a genre. The ‘genre’ of Christian music is a very broad and wide subject to cross. So, if I were to narrow it down a bit into more understandable ranges I could say my favorite genre was contemporary Christian music or pop Christian music. I chose this genre because it is what I listen to most. I listen to contemporary Christian music a lot because it is uplifting and makes me feel better and in a good mood. Sometimes I can apply the songs to my life and I get a creepy, weird sensation inside my body, throughout my veins, and...

...prepare her for a world that does not yet exist? One of the very best analogies I’ve found, for how to bring the best out of your growing child, is the art (yes, art) of growing a plant. Well, you don’t expect your child to remain rooted to one spot his whole life but the similarities are many. Scientists have long talked about “Nature vs Nurture”. Which has the strongest pull on how well a child does physically and mentally? Is the child a successful musician because the genes are there, or because he was exposed to musical trainings right from birth? The conclusion is that where the innate abilities do not exist, hundreds of hours of training by the best coaches will not achieve much. But again, genius, they say, is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration. Genius without the right amount of practice and exposure will ultimately become a failure. It will only become a frustrated attempt at something...
