...Difficult Choices The Oxford Dictionary defines globalization as “the process by which businesses start operating on a global scale.” To make this possible free trade and open market agreements are signed, allowing companies to invest in developing countries and also giving them access to a wider and cheaper variety of products. The world is changing constantly and with all the advances of technology, communication with remote places is more affordable and faster. Globalization is happening, even when it has some critics. “The Pew Global Attitudes Project” states “people generally view the growth in foreign trade, global communication and international popular culture as good for them and their families as well as their countries.” However, the negative effects of globalization cannot be ignored. Air pollution is rampant and in developing countries like China, people are dying. Globalization has reduced poverty in 3rd world countries but it has also deteriorated their air quality. Globalization feed the hungry. In developing countries as China, poor people live out of nothing. IN “Poverty Facts and Stats” Anup Shah reports that “more than 3 billion people in the world live on less than $2.50 a day. They people have nothing to lose just because they don’t have anything that is a very serious problem, but in a poor country where there is not a lot of money, and for a lot of them, money has to come from somewhere else. When a country is struggling that much, globalization...

...English 102 22 April 2012 Analysis of Robert Frost's “The Road Not Taken” Robert Frost’s poem, “The Road not Taken” is a lyrical poem that describes the author’s thoughts when he comes to a fork in the road and the difficult decision of which path to take. It is a closed form poem with a rhyming scheme of “ABAAB” with 4 stanzas of 5 lines each. The fork in the road symbolizes decisions individuals make in life. With his used of mood, symbolism, setting, and imagery, Robert Frost describes the dilemma of decision making and how those decisions play a part in one’s future choices. The poem can be used to describe how an individual decides to follow Jesus Christ, the faith that it requires to do so, and the result of giving your life to Him. The poem begins with “Two Roads diverged in a yellow wood”, symbolizing the different choices individuals have in life. The author explains to the reader that the decision is weighed out carefully and not hastily. Even as the author talks of trying to look down the road as far as possible, there is no sure way of seeing what is at the end. This symbolization can also be used to describe the way people try to make difficult decisions. Even though they may try to intelligently predict the outcome, these tough choices rarely have the answer easily found and requires the individual to have faith in the decision they choose. This faith can also be found when deciding to follow Jesus Christ. Hebrews 11:1 states, “Now faith is being sure of...

...adventure. You experience good and bad stuff. You discover yourself, find out what you’re good at and what you’re not that good at. Growing up brings a lot of difficult choices. All of these choices will affect your future. For instance I think the most difficult choice you have to make in the early years is finding out what you want to work with or as when you get older. Because what if you don’t choose the right thing? What if you as young didn’t stop playing piano? Because you were forced by your parents, maybe you could have been a brilliant pianist today. What if you choose a linguistic field of study just to see your best friend or girlfriend every day? Even though you were more mathematical. That’s already two “mistakes” you have made, first of all by not having discovered your talents, because you gave up to quickly and second of all because you prioritized your loved ones way higher than your education. To make the right choices you prioritize a lot of great things to get the result you want. I’m not saying that if you choose the wrong things, you’ll never do the things you like or have the life you wanted. Of course there’s a great chance you’ll end up having a perfect life, but it might just not be the life you expected. All these choices can be extremely difficult, and the chance of you being spot on, in every choice you make, is very low. Growing up is a broad concept. My definition of growing up starts when you’re born and lasts until you’re in your mid-twenties...

If children develop a strong responsibility foundation they will develop into a successful college student. Personal responsibility is something that is taught to you throughout your childhood and developed throughout your adult life. A child is taught family values daily from the time they begin to walk. Parents begin to pass on their own values system and this is what a person’s responsibility foundation is built on. In order for a student to be successful in their college career they must already have been taught personal responsibility throughout their childhood. Children should be given household chores at a very young age, like picking up their toys, making their beds, and even feeding the family pet, at this age they are exposed to the family values at its core. Children begin to realize what responsibility is through these chores. Experts believe that any type of household responsibilities, are important for kids (Dunnewind, 2004). When they develop into adolescence they should be given more responsibility. School work becomes a priority, social groups draw their interest and now they begin to develop their time management skills. Learning how to navigate between class assignments...

These choices can cause unhappiness and regret. This is a lesson that all of humanity endures at multiple times throughout life. Every decision is a choice about which road people would like to travel down. The setting of the poem is in the woods. The woods are described as a yellow wood that has grass and leaves. By the setting, one might think it is fall, as the leaves are turning color and are falling to the ground, based on Frost’s comment, “In leaves no step had trodden black (Frost, 2010, p. 610)”. Frost also states in the poem, “Because it was grassy and wanted wear” (Frost, 2010); that gives you the impression that one of the roads seems to be traveled...

...they no longer have mom or dad to wake them up in the morning for class, and to tell them what the right or wrong voice is in a difficult situation. There are many things college students are pressured into in the work today, like pressure to do well in school, to go out, or to develop better studying habits. Although peers can have an effect on the college experience, parents can as well. Parents almost always pressure their children to do well in college. Some already have a mindset on what kind of grades they want their children to have. One way a parent could pressure their child to do well in college is, they may bribe them with a special gift at the end of the semester. Another way is, a parent just might have a high expectation and the child may feel pressured to meet that expectation. Parents pressuring their children can be very good for them. It is good for them because they want to show their family how smart they are, and that they can do it. When a person is pressured to do well, it makes him or her feel like someone cares about his or her future. By having a caring person pressure him or her, they want to succeed and make them happy. Although college is about getting an education to find a career, there is nothing wrong with going out and having fun, but when someone pressures their friend to go, that is when it becomes difficult. There is nothing wrong with a person going out, but when he or she knows that they have homework due, that’s a problem. If someone...
