...Sample Cover Letters December 20, 2006 Ms. Elizabeth Novak Recruiting Coordinator PricewaterhouseCoopers Management Consulting 11 Madison Avenue, 18th Floor New York, NY 10010 Dear Ms. Novak: I had the pleasure of having lunch with Will Melson after the September 22nd Duke Corporate Presentation. I spoke with him again after the December 6th PricewaterhouseCoopers corporate visit where I learned even more about your firm. Mr. Melson’s compelling description of PwC couple with my desire to work in such a dynamic environment convinced me to apply for PricewaterhouseCoopers Analyst position. I sharpened my leadership and decision-making skills while supporting operations for an industrial supply company over three summers. The environment was fast-paced and intense, thus I was constantly analyzing data to determine the root causes of given problems. I would then identify and evaluate all possible alternatives before suggesting solutions. Most of these decisions had to be quick, concise and clearly conveyed to people at all organizational levels. As a result of my efforts, the company was able to save over $25K in material costs. During my tenure, I was often praised for thinking about problems innovatively and for never losing sight of the “big picture.” These skills will definitely aid me in consulting. At Duke, I continue to look for leadership opportunities within a team setting. In the Small Business Consulting Program, I currently lead a team of four classmates redesigning...

... Dear Parents, I hope you are fine. I received your letter a week before in which you were asking about my health and problems which I am facing in my university. You don’t need to worry about me as I am not facing such major problems. But I am facing little difficulties as I am new here and people are unknown to me. When I entered university on first day I was very upset and worried. I faced a lot of difficulties in finding time table and class. Some senior students helped me but some of the seniors caught me and starting asking me awkward questions and they were teasing me. I didn’t know what to do I was really stressed. After one week I was a bit familiar with the situation and environment of class and university but still there was no friend of mine. For a moment I decided to left the university and come back to home. But then I realized that everyone has to face problems in life and I should be strong. Now it is my third week, there are many friends of mine. I am familiar with different attitudes and situations. Still I am facing some difficulties and studies because routine is very tough and I could understand lectures of some teachers. I could not even sleep comfortably. Exams are about to come and I am preparing for them. So, these are some problems which I am facing in university. But I believe that everything will be fine. I just need your prayers and support. Give my regard to all family members and I am waiting for your letter. With love,...

...In all of Keats' poems the characters emotions are key in understanding the poem. He uses feelings of love and passion throughout his poems and uses them to add depth. His use of feelings also help the reader relate to the themes. In The Eve of St. Agnes Keats highlights the love between characters. The main portrayal of this feeling is through "Madeline" and "Porphyro". However there is more than one relationship of love key in this poem. One example of this is the Beadsman and his love for "God". The other key relationship is between Angela, Porphyro and Madeline as they all care for each other and wish none of them harm. Porphyro's and Madeline's' families are enemies, much like in Romeo and Juliet, and Angela allows him into the castle without telling the Master of the castle. At the time that the poem was set this would have been severely punished and she would most certainly lose her job. However she only agrees to Porphyro after a long time which shows that she was hesitant to do wrong and must have felt that letting him into Madelines bed chamber was the right thing to do. Not only is she hesitant to do wrong but she is very religious. Angela prays for Porphyro "each morn and evening" which again highlights her good intentions in helping the couple. However along with the feelings comes arguably the most important theme and message in the poem, age and wisdom. Angela is the character, along with the beadsman, who are "meagre" and old characters. Keats uses these...

...bea1_c01.qxd 12/12/01 10:20 AM Page 1 1 Importance of Cover Letters The cover letter you choose for transmitting your resume to an employer or important networking contact can be one of the most significant factors in the success (or failure) of your job-hunting campaign. In fact, a survey of nearly 600 employment professionals, conducted by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), suggests some 76% of employers may automatically eliminate an employment candidate from any further hiring consideration, based solely on the quality of his or her cover letter alone. Further, 43% of survey respondents also reported they view the cover letter as equal to the resume in importance. When it comes to running an effective employment campaign, therefore, this data should cause you to sit up and take notice! (Note: A copy of the full survey, which covers both cover letters and resumes can be obtained by contacting SHRM by phone, (703) 548-3440, or by e-mail at SHRM.org.) If well written and informative, the cover letter can grab the reader’s attention, raise his curiosity, and stimulate immediate interest in your employment candidacy. In fact, if particularly well written, it can sometimes raise sufficient interest to compel the reader to extend an interview invitation without reading the resume document to which it is attached. By contrast, a poorly written cover letter can be disastrous to an otherwise successful job-hunting campaign, serving as an immediate roadblock...

...Writing/Business Communications/Letters Professional and Technical Writing/Business Communications/Letters Business Letters Business letters are written messages to a person or group within a professional setting. Business letters are used when the writer would like to be formal and professional. Letters may vary in length depending on the writer's objective, purpose, and message of the letter. The letter can address anyone including, but not limited to: clients and customers, managers, agencies, suppliers, and other business personnel or organizations. It is important to remember that any business letter is a legal document between the interested parties. These documents can be held for up to seven years, so it is important that all information is honest and legitimate. The Difference Between a Business letter and other letters The main thing that differentiates a business letter from other letters is that a business letter is a legal document. The writer can be held liable for anything written in the letter. For example, if it is stated that a project will be completed by a certain date in a business letter, the project legally must be completed by that date. However, if the project can't be completed by that date, another letter can be written stating that the project is behind schedule and why. For this reason, business letters must be written differently than letters used for personal use. A business letter is...
