...your A+ game. Preparing for the interview is the very first step in the right direction towards success. Bringing your résumé and references are safe starting points, but you may not realize that there are other tools that will help you stand out. So what should job seekers bring to an interview, exactly? Here are five things that can make a difference in today's job market. 1. The "Brag Book" Scott Brent, a surgical sales representative and interviewing expert believes that the age of strict résumé and references are gone and job seekers should look to other outlets when impressing an interviewer. "Traditionally, people going on an interview would bring only a résumé and themselves to the interview," Brent says. "Those days are gone. I don't care if you are interviewing for a C-suite level job (CEO, CFO) or a job at McDonald's, what you bring to your interview is crucial. In my industry, it is called a 'brag book.' This is the most important thing you can bring to your interview. Basically this is a book you put together showcasing all of the accomplishments in your career." The "brag book" is meant to be left behind for the employers so they can remember you. In the folder, a job seeker can...

...you were a show up every day and not rock the boat kind of employee, you could have a long, healthy career working for only one company. At the beginning part or the 20th century, with the obvious exceptions of the great wars and the great depression, it was unusual for a working adult in this country to have more than a few entries on their resume. Part of this is due to according to The Center for Disease Control in the “CIA World Fact Book, 2008” in 1900 the average lifespan was 47 years vs. 77 years today. People were very proud of their jobs and extremely loyal to there employers. The trades even more so that other types of employment stemming from traditions of indentured apprenticeships that had their roots in Europe. Today according to The Bureau of Labor Statistics “ Employee Tenure Summary” the average time an employee stays with a company is 4.6 years. In her article “Job Hopping is the “New Normal” for Millennials” Jeanine Meister estimates workers born between 1977 and 1997 will have between 15 and 20 jobs over the course of their career. Employers have become a disposable commodity to the Workforce. As evidenced by the WorkspanTV Organizational Culture Video, organizations are increasingly aware of this dilemma and trying to combat the current trend through indoctrination into a prefabricated value system. Total immersion in a micro bubble in way that is not unlike the way certain religious groups isolate their members to keep interlopers at bay. Employees...

...“I would like to give you a message. Please do your best to tell the world what is happening to us, the children. So that other children don’t have to pass through this violence.”-Mary, Age 13. Children, like Mary, from Northern Uganda, have fough tin wars for centuries. They are forced to become soldiers in a war that they rarely understand, let alone believe in. These children are labeled as criminals because murder is murder, but the effect of war causes people, and especially children to do unspeakable crimes. That is why is is important for readers to understand what happened how children are forced to be soldiers and why their story’s need to be told. First off, it is important to know how children are manipulated into picking up a gun....

...make previous efforts by the US against terrorism fade in comparison. Yet the fact remains that the country has been fighting Islamic terrorism long before the appalling yet audacious attacks. September 11th 2001 saw the deadliest, most daring attacks on the US soil since Pearl Harbor. To many ordinary Americans, that day’s tragic events were definitely not preordained. Well, not according to Lance as apparently, there is more to 9/11 than catches the eye. On such a note begins an intriguing and disastrous narrative that spins back to the late 1980s to link the long gone events to the contemporary world affairs (Lance, 2004). In an intriguing and formidable manner the author, an award winning investigative reporter, unveils details; links acts and reveals a form of behavior that in them paved the way for the tragic September 11th by showing the reader prior intelligence mishaps. Narrated from the point of view of news-making individuals; the world’s most formidable terrorist and two counter terrorists, the book sheds light into the 12 year long covert terrorist confrontation and provides information that was previously unknown to many Americans. Lance brings into the spotlight a shattering and thrilling investigation of the FBI’s misinformed, under sighted and futile search for Osama bin Laden in New York City. The book recounts the long battle against terror since the 1980s, the previous fruitless terrorist attempts on the World Trade Centre in the 1990s, the terrorist events...

...Conflict Resolution In conflict resolution there are several ways it can be accomplished this paper will take three situations and give a descriptive manner in which they can be resolved. In this paper we will also describe how these situations would relate to our work experiences and how they were resolved for each situation. Story Book #1 When a team member is trying to avoid resolution of an issue through changing bad news to sound good, the best way to manage this situation is to address the problem through face to face meeting. This enables the manager and team to identify and confront the issue through an open discussion (Robbins & Judge, 2013). Chances are there is more than one person that is aware of the problem, by using the open discussion and explaining that there is not one person at fault the discussion can be carried on and the issue can be resolved. The open discussion amongst the team will also give the leader the opportunity to encourage and engage the team members, this engagement will help to open the lines of communication between the team member and the tem and the leader. Story Book # 2 In teams it is never easy to keep information flowing, however it must be done to be transparent with the team. The strategy that best fits my style is to be direct with the issue. When communicating a negative message, it is important to be concise and explain the issue directly so that there is no misunderstanding. This might create some anxiety among the members...

...NetConversions Influences Kelley Blue Book BUS 454 Shelia Cassidy Introduction This paper will explore the way that NetConversions (NetC) influenced the Kelly Blue Book (KBB) webpages after first presenting a short history of the Kelly blue book company. The three discussion questions to be answered are: • Develop the management-research question hierarchy through investigative questions for this project. • Using the research process model (Exhibit 4– 1), describe and evaluate the research design of this project. • Describe and evaluate the sampling design for this project. From Model T’s to Web Sites Kelly Blue Book (K BB) began life in 1918 as Kelly Kar Company with three Ford model T’s for sale in an open lot in Los Angeles, California. By 1926 the company had grown and though to larger sites. Les Kelley, the founder, started distributing a list of automobiles that he wanted to purchase the other dealers, along with the prices that he would pay. Other dealers began to request a list for their own use because they trusted Kelley’s judgment on used car prices. By 1926 the list had been expanded to include all the cars and metamorphic into the first Blue Book of Motor Car Values. Meanwhile, Kelley’s used-car dealership had gone from one employee, his brother, Buster, to an employer of over 100 people, on its way to becoming the largest used car leadership in the world. This was possible because new car dealers did...

...Facebook is the world’s largest social network, with over 500 million users. Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg in February 2004, initially as an exclusive network for Harvard students. It was a huge hit: in 2 weeks, half of the schools in the Boston area began demanding a Facebook network. Zuckerberg immediately recruited his friends Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes to help build Facebook, and within four months, Facebook added 30 more college networks. The original idea for the term Facebook came from Zuckerberg’s high school (Phillips Exeter Academy). The Exeter Face Book was passed around to every student as a way for students to get to know their classmates for the following year. It was a physical paper book until Zuckerberg brought it to the internet. With this success, Zuckerberg, Moskowitz and Hughes moved out to Palo Alto for the summer and rented a sublet. A few weeks later, Zuckerberg ran into the former cofounder of Napster, Sean Parker. Parker soon moved in to Zuckerberg’s apartment and they began working together. Parker provided the introduction to their first investor, Peter Thiel, cofounder of PayPal and managing partner of The Founders Fund. Thiel invested $500,000 into Facebook. With millions more users, Friendster attempted to acquire the company for $10 million in mid 2004. Facebook turned down the offer and subsequently received $12.7 million in funding from Accel Partners, at a valuation of around $100 million. Facebook continued to grow...

There is enough material on Facebook to keep you engaged all day long. You might love it but you are at a risk, at the cost of your privacy. You may not be aware of the dangers you face making so much personal information available, but that isn't all that is bad about Facebook. With tons of applications available out there, Facebook is one of the most addictive sites on the Internet. People get hooked on applications and games like Farmville, Mafia Wars, etc. Many schools report that the average grade of students has gone down and the main cause is social networking sites. ...As a result Odysseus was pretty loyal to his family while he was gone for 20 years. As we have seen Odysseus is a pretty loyal man. That’s what makes him a hero. Odysseus was very loyal to his gods. “ Odysseus men disobey his orders, and shortly after the land, they ate the cattle of the sun god, Helios” (page 768 line 1365). Odysseus is loyal to the god Helios because out of all the men that were starving he never ate one bite of the cattle that belonged to the god Helios. Helios was very mad when we found out who ate his cattle so he told the god Zeus, and he sent a lighting bolt down on their ship and killed every man on the ship but Odysseus. That just shows how much respect he has for the gods and what they do. Odysseus never got let off the hook he was trapped on a island for 20 years, for his punishment...

...Rape is a traumatizing event in someone’s life that takes time and patience to get over. The victim may need a lot of help to cope with their rape. The books “Speak” by Laurie Halse Anderson and “You Against Me” by Jenny Downham are both examples of what occurs before and after a rape. They explain how someone would feel if it really did happen, and they explain the importance of providing an ear for the victim so they can cope with their situation. They are good examples because on shows it from the victim’s point of view and the other from a family member’s point of view, so you can get both people’s perspectives on the state that person is in. They give you an idea on the actions you should take if something like this occurs to either you...

...worldwide known books for exposing the meat industry, and both were able to change the viewpoints of many people on what they eat. With the meat sales sky rocketing since 1961, our society can thank the inspections and production side of the meat industry. The Jungle, written by Upton Sinclair, was one of the first books to uncover the gruesome side of the meat packing factories. With this book the world was introduced to the exposed side of the meat factories in unsanitary conditions. Of course, Sinclair’s intention was not to write The Jungle in an effort to unveil the dirty side to the meat packing factories, but it was intended to be a love story between a young couple immigrating from Lithuania to the United States. Along with The Jungle is Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser. The statistical side of this book was also intended to expose the meat industry but by humiliating fast food restaurants and where their meat products were coming from. People were appalled by the facts this book gave, and they began having new perspectives on fast food. Overall, Fast Food Nation appeals to readers’ senses of ethos pathos and logos then The Jungle does. First of all, Schlosser does a much better job of convincing people to change their views on fast food products and all meat products in general. His diction choices are pedantic and factual, his details become emotional when introducing real people’s incidents, and he organizes his events as our history progresses. The book begins with...

...overstating the value of corporate assets or underreporting the existence of liabilities, sometimes with the cooperation of officials in other corporations or affiliates. In public companies, this type of "creative accounting" can amount to fraud, and investigations are typically launched by government oversight agencies, such as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the United States. Causes: It is fairly easy for a top executive to reduce the price of his/her company's stock – due to information asymmetry. The executive can accelerate accounting of expected expenses, delay accounting of expected revenue, engage in off balance sheet transactions to make the company's profitability appear temporarily poorer, or simply promote and report severely conservative (e.g. pessimistic) estimates of future earnings. Such seemingly adverse earnings news will be likely to (at least temporarily) reduce share price. (This is again due to information asymmetries since it is more common for top executives to do everything they can to window dress their company's earnings forecasts). There are typically very few legal risks to being 'too conservative' in one's accounting and earnings estimates.[citation needed] A reduced share price makes a company an easier takeover target. When the company gets bought out (or taken private) – at a dramatically lower price – the takeover artist gains a windfall from the former top executive's actions to surreptitiously reduce share price. This can represent...

...were any real guidelines that companies and accountants had to adhere to. People with higher positions within a company somehow let the power get to them at times and can use that to their advantage. Rather than taking that position and being responsible and set the proper example some set the wrong example. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act set standards to try to prevent future scandals like Phar Mor Inc., the Waste Management scandal and Enron. Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) was created after several major scandals that shook the world. These scandals made it clear that preventative measures needed to be taken in order to prevent any future scandals. Too many people/companies now believed that they were able to get away with fraud and it was acceptable as long as they did not get caught. This gave other employees the idea that this was acceptable behavior and needed to be stopped because it was affecting many people. The Phar Mor Inc. scandal had so many people involved that I am not sure as to whether or not it could have been prevented. An investigation revealed that Phar Mor was not receiving all of the inventory they were being billed for by their sister company Tamco. Phar Mor’s profit margins were suffering due to the missing inventory because they were not keeping accurate records and could not find the discrepancies causing the bad numbers. Tamco did not have good record keeping either which means the issues were not being caught on their end either. (Williams, S.L., 2011) Phar Mor’s...

...Performance Evaluation 2. – Part 1 The owner of General Mills was Cadwallader C. Washburn. He created the Minneapolis Milling Company back in the year 1856 for leasing the rights to the operators, and 10 years later, the first flourmill was built under his instruction close to the falls of St. Anthony, which is by the Mississippi River in Minneapolis. Back in the 1860’s General Mills had only two flour grinders using better quality ingredients, which led the way for other competitors to follow. Dating back closer to our age, during the 1960’s General Mills came out with such products as Play-Doe, Easy Bake Ovens, and Nerf balls just for kids. The company was founded by Illinois Congressman Robert Smith, who leased power rights to mills operating along the west side of the Saint Anthony Falls on the Mississippi River. Cadwallader C. Washburn acquired the company shortly after its founding and hired his brother, William D. Washburn to assist in the company's development. General Mills operates in three different business categories. The three include U.S. retail, international, and convenience stores and foodservice. The industry that General Mills is a part of is the “food consumer products” as it’s shown on fortune 500. General Mills Inc. is a manufacturer and marketer of branded consumer foods sold through retail stores. They supply branded and unbranded food products to the foodservice and commercial baking industries. As for their revenues, GM managed to reach a net sales...
