...Time appeared to stand still as I waited in my seat. My turn was soon to come, and my hands were drenched in sweat. My mind was racing as I was so nervous about what my other students would think of my speech. I tried desperately to keep my paper from rattling while trying to remember it one last time, My heart dropped as I heard the dreadful words “next”. Now every nerve in my body seemed like a strained harp-string ready to snap at a touch.Every, and or any change in my behavior, and movement was being closely watched by my peers. The upset feeling started to cloud my thoughts, as I tried to scramble the next words to convey. This was one of the hardest things for me to do, but in my case, anxiety disorders happened to be more than limited concern or panic. Many often mistaken mental disorders for weakness or self-indulgence, and because of the serious interior functional impairment social phobia can cause, help is usually not amiable. For many people Infrequent anxiety happens to be a average part of their life, and may not go away. Basically, all phobias are anxiety disorders, clumped in the same catagory as post-traumatic stress disorder and panic disorder. Anxiety disorders are, essentially, based on fear(Winnerman6). Social Anxiety Disorder (social phobia) “is the world’s third biggest mental health care problem today”(Richards1). Despite the brief anxiety, people with social phobia are typically introverts, silent, and not in favor of being the life of the party(Stein...

The conventional coal fuel cycle is among the most destructive activities on the earth, threatening the health, polluting the air and water, harming the land, and contributing to global warming. The variations in air quality in terms of sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and particulate matter around JCF were evaluated over the period of 2010 and 2011 at five sites during different seasons. Air pollution index (API), calculated on the basis of suspended particulate matter (SPM), SO2 and NO2 concentrations was highest near the coal mining area. The ambient concentrations of heavy metals (in PM10) also showed significant temporal and spatial variations at different sites around coal mining areas...

...Beta galactosidase is a hydrolase enzyme and it is also known as beta gal. It causes the hydrolysis of the polysaccharides that is it uses the water to break down the sugar molecules in to simpler and smaller compounds such as simple sugars. It acts on different substrates to break it down as it is a catabolic enzyme. The important substrates are lactose, lactoslyceramides, gangliosides and many other glycoproteins but lactose is an important substrate and sometimes this enzyme has been recognized by its sub class that is lactase. Beta galactosidase is actually a chemical name employed to a large group of the enzymes. Enzymes are the proteins that takes part in the catabolic activity within the cells and they act as a catalyst that is enhances and makes it faster the reaction of the hydrolysis of the molecules that would otherwise be slow and the normal physiological process can be slowed down and the life of the cells would not be possible anymore. The enzyme known as β - galactosidase is not only present in eukaryotic cells but also in prokaryotic cells. As the word indicates galatosidase, it means the breakdown of the large chain sugar lactose into smaller molecules such as glucose and galactose (Casadaban et al., 1983). Lactose is polysaccharide that is the large sugar which is formed by the combination of two smaller molecules such as glucose and galactose. In order to determine the quantity of the breakdown of lactose, one method can be adopted which is Bradford assay. In...

...Chapter 13: to kill a mocking bird * Scout asks Aunt Alexandra if she's come for a visit, and aunty says that she and Atticus have decided that it's best if she stays with them for a while, as Scout needs some "feminine influence" (13.10). * Scout does not agree with this, but keeps quiet about it. * In fact, Scout has trouble making any kind of conversation with her aunt. * That evening Atticus comes home and confirms Aunt Alexandra's reason for her coming to stay, though Scout thinks it's mostly her aunt's doing, part of her long campaign to do "What Is Best For The Family" (13.22). * Aunt Alexandra is popular in Maycomb and takes a leading role in the feminine social circles, even though she makes obvious her belief that Finches are superior to everyone else (even though, as Jem says, most people in town are related to the Finches anyhow). * Aunt Alexandra is a firm believer in Streaks—each family has one (a Drinking Streak, a Gambling Streak, etc.), though Scout doesn't really understand her aunt's obsession with heredity. * It makes a kind of sense. The town is far enough away from the river that forms the area's main transportation route means that hardly anyone ever moves to Maycomb or away from it. Families have known each other for generations, establishing the reputation for having "streaks." * Scout mostly ignores her aunt, unless she gets called in to make an appearance at a luncheon or tea. * Alexandra also attempts to instill family...

...The Look-Look case study discusses the online company Look-Look and their marketing research strategy to appeal to a prominent demographic in terms of fashion and apparel; the 14-30 age group. It is cited that this age group spends “$140 billion” annually on clothing and clothing related items, but the age group’s opinion was previously unheard, unrecognized, un-acknowledged, or even participated in trends. As a member of this age demographic, I have always noticed that it is vital to consider the biases of the majority. Generally, there is a very distinct group of influencers and followers. It has always been true in terms of the music industry, as teenagers and young adults want to know what is considered ‘cool’ or ‘trendy’ in an overall sense. Consequently, this also assists in finding the interests in specific music artists and in expressing individuality and identity; which is of great value to most people in their teenage and young adult years. Look-Look’s concept of assisting this age bracket in expressing themselves while simultaneously having them connects via online is appealing in many ways. Not only does it capture an important aspect of everyday life and fashion, it allows an immediate interaction between marketers and tastemakers over a very informal, user-friendly medium. In addition, the market segment can change very quickly over the course of weeks or months and an online platform will prevent a delay in capturing the essence of and capitalizing from the current...

...promotion - personal selling Introduction Personal selling can be defined as follows: Personal selling is oral communication with potential buyers of a product with the intention of making a sale. The personal selling may focus initially on developing a relationship with the potential buyer, but will always ultimately end with an attempt to "close the sale" Personal selling is one of the oldest forms of promotion. It involves the use of a sales force to support a push strategy (encouraging intermediaries to buy the product) or a pull strategy (where the role of the sales force may be limited to supporting retailers and providing after-sales service). What are the main roles of the sales force? Kotler describes six main activities of a sales force: (1) Prospecting - trying to find new customers (2) Communicating - with existing and potential customers about the product range (3) Selling - contact with the customer, answering questions and trying to close the sale (4) Servicing - providing support and service to the customer in the period up to delivery and also post-sale (5) Information gathering - obtaining information about the market to feedback into the marketing planning process (6) Allocating - in times of product shortage, the sales force may have the power to decide how available stocks are allocated What are the advantages of using personal selling as a means of promotion? • Personal selling is a face-to-face activity; customers therefore obtain a relatively high degree...

...The End of St. Petersburg: A Realist Look Two years ago, I made my first film. It was called “Freelance” and I wanted to make a more realistic-looking film. I don’t like quick cutting or jump cuts. So, I wanted to have longer takes, pans, and medium shots. I would only use close-ups only when it was necessary. I always felt that having too much cutting in a film, jump cuts, and too many close-ups took away from the viewer. I felt that it wouldn’t leave any room for development and give the audience an unsatisfied understanding of the characters’ development. Too much cutting would still allow you to watch the whole story, however it would not let you question any motives or even allow you breathing space to compile all the things you just saw. I can’t and don’t like that at all. It hurt my head and eyes. I need to think and question. Between 1967 and 1971, a man named André Bazin created “What is Cinema?” in which he focused on editing and cinematography. André Bazin is a Realist and he argued that what he saw in film what he called “objective reality". He saw neo-realism and other genres later on become more realistic looking. These directors would become known as invisible. You “look through” not at the film. André Bazin admired “Orson Welles,” who used deep focus in “Citizen Kane”. Myself and Bazin both advocate the use of deep focus, wide shots and shot-in-depth. Bazin referred to those three as "true continuity" through mise-en-scène. I love seeing everything in the...

...A Look into moonshine Hooch, white lightning, mountain dew, moonshine, etc, they are all names for the illeagally made liquor brewed in the mid-Atlantic and southern rural regions of US. The idea of making moonshine came about because the government put such high taxes on liquor it was more cost effective just for the citizens to make their own. There are many variations of the liquor, and just about anything can be thrown into the mix. The styles of making the liquor and the taste change with each region you go even though the makers use practically the same ingredients and the same base of producing the product. The making of illegal liquor has been around the US ever since the colonists first came over, but with them came the taxes. The first ruling n liquor was in 1633 when Massachusets colony passed legislation requiring a permkit to sell and produce liquor. What is a little funny about the whole timing of this is both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson owned and operated their own moonining stills. As the times progressed, the governments started levying higher and higher taxes on spirites to pay war debts and to do federal duties. The legislation continued to be passed when in 1862 congress passed a bill that taxed all alcohol in the nation and made the sale of untaxed liquor illegal. The government enforced this by sending federal agents down to the stills, and bars that sold the untaxed product and shut them down. The Legislation got tougher until the...

...Look Away When you move from a small town to the big city, you’ll have to try to fit in. It’s different living in a big city than in a small town, because there’s different “rules” you’ll have to learn and follow. “IN rural Minnesota, where I grew up, it was the custom to greet everyone you met on the road, whether you knew the person or not, with a "hi." A muttered, uninflected "hi" was entirely acceptable, but the word had to be spoken.” In the small town, Minnesota, where Siri Hustvedt grew up, it was common courtesy to say “hi” to one another even though you didn’t know the person you said “hi” to. In 1978, Siri Hustvedt moved to the city that never sleeps, New York. Here she couldn’t use her small town charm, because moving to the big city was like moving to another planet in some kind of way. “Within days, I absorbed the unwritten code of survival in this town, a convention communicated silently but forcefully. This simple law, one nearly every New Yorker subscribes to whenever possible, is: pretend it isn't happening.” Siri Hustvedt here describes that it’s survival of the fittest. You’ll have to learn to look the other way to be a true New Yorker and to survive in the big city. Minnesota works in an opposite way than New York, because you’d considered as a snob, if you don’t say “hi” in Minnesota, but in New York it’s; mind your own business, and you will survive in this town. “At 24th Street, the door opened for a woman who was wearing nothing but a flimsy bathrobe...

...Jordan’s Male Academy: An Insight Look American individualism, a conceptualized form of individualism, is the basis through which individuals are believed to be best represented for accuracy to generalized standards of behavior. However, it is the diversity of this country that makes the American individualism more opaque and less clear, when deviations from the standard appear. Jordan High School is an institution in Long Beach, and the place for the project observations to take place. The framework to be used in this project is a combination of Geert Hofstede’s value dimensions and Edward T. Hall’s High and Low Context cultures, to better understand the culture within the school. As part of my research, outside sources are included such as websites, books, scholarly journals, etc. According to data from the academic year 2013-2014, the total enrollment of the school is 3,481 students. The student ethnicity is divided as follows: 67.3% Hispanic or Latino, 21.6% Black or African American, 4.1% Asian, 3.2% Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, 1.8% White, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, 0.3% Two or more races, and 0.2% Not reported. The student population is majorly populated by students on the free/reduced meals program, and an estimated 22% are English learners. The most frequent language of English learner students is Spanish, with an 84%, followed by Khmer (Cambodian), 0.8%. ...A Look Back A man’s learning on ends when he loses the will to learn. Throughout this class I have found new strengths, also I have learned that I have many weaknesses still. I know that with a good plan of action even the most challenging topics can become easier. I have many strengths and weaknesses but I also have a plan of action to help with both. I have much strength when it comes to English and I have learned that I have developed a few more. I have gotten much better with comma splices and run-on sentences. As well as getting better with identifying fragments and preventing them I have learned to recognize my most common grammatical errors and prevent them. There are many things that this class has helped me work on. Even though I have learned many things in this class I have also discovered I still have many weaknesses. One of my greatest weaknesses is that I have trouble prewriting and getting my ideas from my mind down on paper. I also have trouble with sentence variety; I either use to many of the same kind of sentence or I try to use too many complex sentences and it doesn’t flow very well. The one thing that I have the most trouble with is writing out a good thesis. I am still using the same thesis formula that I learned in middle school. There are many things that I still have to work on. I have developed what in my opinion is a good plan of action to help me work on my weaknesses and bolster my strengths. If I keep working on my strengths I should only...
