...Joseph was a powerful character in the bible as he ruled all of Egypt at one point in his life, but when did he live in Egypt, does anyone really know? Perhaps we can look to the Exodus to find out. Or maybe the history of the ancient Egyptians will tell us something about him. We could also look for when there were times of famine in Egypt. We may never know when Joseph walked this earth, but we can find clues and evidence to when he might have. In the bible there is nothing telling us what Joseph’s Egyptian name was. This makes it difficult to find any evidence of him ever being in Egypt. Many scholars believe that his story took place during the second Intermediate Period of Egyptian history (1786-1570 B.C.). This is because the...

...The Nile River is the backbone of Egypt’s health and wealth. As the main source of water for the North African country, Egypt is suffering a shortage of renewable fresh water with an influx of citizens rushing to be closer to the river (Dakkak, 2017). But the Nile River may soon be dammed up and Egypt will be left with 3 percent of the water it has in an average years (Nunzio, 2013). With water and silt from the Nile River being the main source of agriculture for trade in Egypt, the Egyptian government is facing massive crisis. Upon analyzing the situation in Egypt, it is evident, Egyptians must find a way to preserve water, irrigate the land and desert and feed their people without depending nearly 100 percent on the Nile River as a source....

...work I picked is, King Neferhotep, Middle Kingdom, Dynasty 13, 1750 BC, Abydos. He was the King from Ancient Egypt he was known for having divine natures, so many though he was related to gods. It was evaluated by the Ancient Egyptians, that the king was the son of a god, therefore the king had divine natures. The duty of a god was to maintain the universe under control. He had about three roles as a king: being like a priest, being commander, and being supreme justice. The Ancient Egypt rituals were all passed by him, fortunately he had the help of assistants and advisors. If any female would be in the same position, as being divine, she would become king. From what I’ve learned they would use the same clothing as a male king. In comparison,...

...Morrison 1 Kenya Morrison Professor Jacobs College Comp I 23 November 2015 Abram in Egypt Abram in Egypt. Although Abram is considered one of the biggest religious figures in religious text, the story of Abram in Egypt showcases Abram in a completely new light. Writers of Genesis wanted the story to be interpreted in the reader's own way something that could surprise and intrigue a multitude of readers. Through extensive research, sources, and opinions, it can be found that the story of Abram is meant to be what the reader makes of it. So, who was Abram? A Hero? A man of wealth? Someone trying to ecsape death? Or someone who simply abandoned their marriage? Abram. A name many hold in high regards, even deeming him a hero, the true prophet of God. In Thomas Pangle’s, Political Philosophy and the God of Abraham, Pangle analyzes the story of Abram’s time in Egypt challenging readers to interpret the text for themselves. Pangle explains that readers need to look at every perspective of Abram’s time in the promise land; Abram the Hero, Abram the Sinner, Abram the Liar, and an Abram who simply decided to watch his own back. Pangle also asks readers to question their own views if God himself didn’t punish nor congratulate Abram. So, what is it about Abram? Opening the passage with an analysis of Abram as an Hero, Pangle showcases how some readers could become quite annoyed with the labeling of Abram as a “Hero”. Being God’s chosen one...

In Ancient Egypt they had eye makeup for man and woman. Not only the people and the pharaoh, but their gods would also when the perfumed oils, and eye makeup. In ancient Egypt they had the best type of clothing if you could afford it. ...Propaganda is commonly biased information, used to promote or publicize a specific point of view or cause. Today, we see many examples of propaganda, in advertising, politics, and media. People assume that propaganda only started in the 20th and the 21st century, but in reality the roots can date back to times in Ancient Egypt. It’s hard to believe that propaganda has been happening for quite long, but people are always trying to find ways to obtain power, even if it includes lying. Pharaohs and Queens in the 18th dynasty have used propaganda to make themselves seem more powerful. In this essay, propaganda in the 18th dynasty, the ways the propaganda was expressed, and how it manipulated people will be discussed, using historical sculptures,...

...The condition of housing for people in Cairo, Egypt is in dire straits. Three of the world’s 30 largest slums are found in Cairo and 45 percent of Egypt’s population is living in slum conditions. It has been stated that there are about 8 million slum dwellers in Greater Cairo and almost 70 percent of the city’s residents live in informal areas or settlements that are called ashwa’iyyat (Kipper, 2009). Informal housing areas in Cairo are inhabited by heterogeneous group of people and these areas spread throughout Greater Cairo and there is lack of support from the government to tackle the spread of such slums (Bayat and Dennis, 2000). In 2005, Egypt’s UN Human Development Report (EHDR) reported the precarious situation of housing for poor people in Cairo. Following the report of 2005, the government announced a series of planned projects to tackle the housing problem in Cairo along with the cooperation of UNDP. Further, international aid organizations such as the USAID and GTZ also came forward to help in several housing projects. However, in spite of such measures there is need for further development to control the continued encroachment on agricultural lands and lack of proper housing for the poor. There is a view expressed by several scholars that informal housing is actually a solution to provide housing to the poor people in Cairo (O’Donnell, 2013). While the government of Cairo fears that slums harm the modernisation of Cairo but at the same time, informal housing...

...Term Project: Currency Analysis Egypt International Finance The currency of Egypt is the Egyptian pound (EGP) and over the last 10 years its value against the US dollar has changed but not as much as people may have thought it to. In order to understand how and why the currency has changed over the past 10 years, we have to look at a number of factors that impact a country’s currency. The things that impact a country’s currency include economic factors such as the strengths and weaknesses and imports and exports, a country’s current financial status including the market and banking system, the exchange rate system, the country’s reserve and also the role and action of the central bank. The last factor that can help to predict a country’s future is the government; this includes GDP, taxes, and legislative changes. As stated above, over the last 10 years the EGP has undergone some fluctuation. As of December 10, 2002, the value of the EGP when compared to the US dollar was .21563. As of today when the EGP is compared to the US dollar the value is now .16385 (XE, 2012). However, the value was only up at .21563 for a brief period of time, it dropped sharply at the end of January from close to .22 by almost 3 points and continued to fall until the end of 2004 bottoming out at a low of .15852. Over the course of the next 4 years, the value of the EGP steadily grew until it topped out close to .19 in early August of 2008. Unfortunately, the value of the EGP...

...A Brief Look at the Origin of Algebra Connie Beach Professor Clifton E. Collins, Sr. Math 105: Introduction to College Mathematics May 22, 2010 Abstract In this paper we look at the history of algebra and some of its different writers. Algebra originated in ancient Egypt and Babylon around 1650 B.C. Diophantus of Alexandria, a Greek mathematician, and Abū ʿAbdallāh Muḥammad ibn Mūsā al-Khwārizmī, a Persian mathematician from Baghdad, astronomer and geographer, shared the credit of being the founders of algebra. Diophantus, who is known as the “father of algebra”, carried on the work of the ancient Egyptians and Babylonians, but the word Algebra actually came from the word al-jabr, which is from al-Khwārizmī’s work, Kitab al-Jabr wa-l-Muqabala. The algebraic notation had gone through 3 stages: rhetorical (or verbal), stage, syncopated (use of abbreviated words) stage, and symbolism (the use of letters for the unknown) stage. As a matter of fact, the algebra that we know of today began during the 16th century, even though its history shows that it began almost 4000 years ago. A Brief Look at the Origin of Algebra I have always had a love for math. My favorite math class was Algebra; in fact, I had taken Algebra I, II, III, and IV all through high school, and aced every class. I can just look at a problem and know the answer. Then, I returned to college after 30 years, and took an Intro to College Math class. I wasn’t sure if I still remembered what I had learned...

...Lebanon vs. Egypt Economies of Emerging Nations Dr. Yiheyis | Clark Atlanta University Submitted By: Quincy Williams December 2,2014 Lebanon vs. Egypt In this paper I will compare and contrast the countries of Egypt and Lebanon. I will explore both of the country’s economic history starting in 1980. The basis of this paper will be on the country’s global development indicators and what they tell us about that particular country. The majority of the research done in this paper was done through the world-bank website as well as the economy watch website. First I would like to provide some background on Lebanon. Lebanon is a Middle Eastern country in the west of the Asian continent that shares its borders with Syria, Israel and Mediterranean Sea. Most of Lebanon’s land is mountainous. However, the Beqaa valley, with its fertile soil, remains the source for agricultural products. Lebanon has an area of 10,452 square km and population of 4,224,000. The Lebanese economy is noted for its resilience, having withstood wars and invasions with Israel as well as internal sectarian clashes and at times dominating influence from Syria. It is this resilience that helped Lebanon achieve 9% growth during the Great Financial Crisis. The growth was nurtured by controlled banking regulations that restricted credit and therefore, its impact during the recession. As of 2011, the World Bank classified the middle class in Lebanon as those people who earn between $15,000 and $27,000 annually. But...

...Thutmose III was bold and brilliant on the battlefield as well in life. Because of Thutmose III Egypt prospers, without him we would be lost. Egypt has been restored to the proper prestige and achievement it has been known to have in the past. On the verge of extinction, Egypt was slowly slipping out of existence but that is no longer. Revered as being kind to the places he captured Thutmose III displayed humility and compassion to everyone and understood what it meant to truly rule an empire. Thutmose had to wait 20 years after he was able to rule in order to rule. His mother, Hatshepsut, claimed the throne when Thutmose III was of age to rule and Thutmose did nothing. Not until his mother died 20 years later did he begin to rule....

...23/2/13 Are the Egyptian and American Gen alike? Since the very beginning of the Egyptian civilization, Egypt has been undergoing several changes. Those changes did not only take place in the developmental process of the country but also in how Egyptians handled their lives. However, the latest Egyptian generations are the most highly criticized ones because of the huge differences of attitudes between Baby Boomers and them. But are they like the American GenMe that author Jean M. Twenge described in her book "GenMe: An Army Of One"? Looking upon the different parenting styles, schools, education systems, and the 25th of January revolution, that had a great impact on the Egyptian society, American GenMe is so unlikely to be put in comparison with Egyptian GenY. In Egypt, Parents act as barriers for their children not to pursue their goals. They always force them to study for a certain major just because they want them to carry a certain title (Hashish). Egyptian parents undermine their children's ambitions as if they don't deserve to follow them. Such reason contradicts what Twenge says about the American GenMe who believe that everyone should follow his/her dream and that one must do what makes him/her happy and do what is best for him/her (Army of One 8). Moreover, Egyptian GenY may choose to study a certain major rather than the one they prefer because the idea of unemployment is hunting them. They are not always free to choose because they are uncertain of what...

...moment’’ is my honey week in Egypt. Beautiful Egypt First of all, why Egypt is my wow moment it is because I never been in there before. Egypt is very beautiful country and same time very dangerous. I did spend my honey week with my husband in Hurghada, which is a beach resort town stretching some 40 km along Egypt’s Red Sea cost. It’s removed for scuba diving and has lots of diving shops. There are many different restaurants, night clubs and coffee shops. There are water is so blue like sky and sun is so big like beach ball. There are dolphins and very kind, smiling people who can speak around five different languages, including Russian, which is my language. There, every night, are fantastic shows for different taste and age. Real Egypt Secondly, Egypt is my wow moment because a contrast what you can see when you going somewhere out in town. There you can see other side of this country –rubbish on streets, poverty, soldiers and police around. Some houses look like a big scrap yards where everything placed somewhere around. There are lot of unfinished houses and people already live in there. People have a big problem with clean water and a job. Lots of people can’t afford house and they live on street. I conclusion, my wow moment is all about my honey week in Egypt because there were so many exciting contrasts. From one side beautiful, rich resorts but from other side real situation in Egypt- poor people, dirt and rubbish around. Visit to Egypt was my...
