...The Ten commandments Characters: Moses, Egyptian prince, Hebrew slaves Summary: Shortly after God brought the people of Israel out of Egypt, they traveled through the desert to Sinai where they camped in front of Mount Sinai. Mount Sinai, also called Mount Horeb, is a very significant place. There God met and spoke with Moses, telling him why he had rescued Israel from Egypt. For God had chosen these people to be made into a holy nation of priests for God, his treasured possession. One day God called moses to the top of the mountain and he gave him the first part of his new system of laws for his people - the Ten Commandments. (These Ten Commandments summarized the absolutes of spiritual and moral living that God intended for his people. For a modern-day paraphrase of the Ten Commandments visit: Ten Commandments - Paraphrase.) God continued to give direction to his people through Moses, including the civil and ceremonial laws for managing their lives and their worship. Eventually God called Moses to the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights. During this time he gave him instructions for the tabernacle and the offerings. When God finished speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him two tablets of stone inscribed by the very finger of God. They contained the Ten Commandments. Meanwhile, the people of Israel had become impatient while waiting for Moses to return with a message from God. Moses had been gone for so long that the people gave up on him and begged Aaron (Moses'...

...Geller takes the idea too far—those familiar with the show will remember the endless scenes of all six friends lounging around, often either talking in the coffee house, or in Monica’s apartment. However, the viewer will also struggle to remember where each character does for a living, and remembering any scenes that depict them at their jobs because, with the possible exception of Rachel during her waitressing years, the characters are rarely shown to work. Ross is the most unrealistically portrayed of them all: as a palaeontologist who also is a professor at New York University, and being a father sharing custody with an ex-wife it is difficult to understand how he has the time to socialize as much as the show depicts him too. “Friends” provides an unrealistic portrayal of how active Ross Geller’s social life is in comparison to his work and family commitments during the late 20th and early 21st century. Friends shows that most adults will frequently be able to engage in sexual intercourse regularly and with many different partners in the span of a few years. While Ross is typically the quiet, bookish friend of the show, and is certainly less crazed for sex than Joey, over the course of ten seasons the viewer sees Ross’ three divorces and development of several sexual relationships with new women more often than what many other adults are experiencing outside of television. In season 4, he meets Emily Waltham and runs off to a bed and breakfast in Vermont for a...

...About Things Fall Apart Chinua Achebe's college work sharpened his interest in indigenous Nigerian cultures. He had grown up in Ogidi, a large village in Nigeria. His father taught at the missionary school, and Achebe witnessed firsthand the complex mix of benefit and catastrophe that the Christian religion had brought to the Igbo people. In the 1950s, an exciting new literary movement grew in strength. Drawing on indigenous Nigerian oral traditions, this movement enriched European literary forms in hopes of creating a new literature, in English but unmistakably African. Published in 1958, Things Fall Apart is one of the masterpieces of 20th century African fiction. Things Fall Apart is set in the 1890s, during the coming of the white man to Nigeria. In part, the novel is a response and antidote to a large tradition of European literature in which Africans are depicted as primitive and mindless savages. The attitudes present in colonial literature are so ingrained into our perception of Africa that the District Commissioner, who appears at the end of the novel, strikes a chord of familiarity with most readers. He is arrogant, dismissive of African "savages," and totally ignorant of the complexity and richness of Igbo life. Yet his attitude echoes so much of the depiction of Africa; this attitude, following Achebe's depiction of the Igbo, seems hollow and savage. Digression is one of Achebe's most important tools. Although the novel's central story is the tragedy of Okonkwo...

...1. The Gift of the Magi "The Gift of the Magi" is a short story written by O. Henry (a pen name for William Sydney Porter), about a young married couple and how they deal with the challenge of buying secret Christmas gifts for each other with very little money. As a sentimental story with a moral lesson about gift-giving, it has been a popular one for adaptation, especially for presentation during the Christmas season. The plot and its "twist ending" are well-known, and the ending is generally considered an example of situational irony. It was allegedly written at Pete's Tavern[2][3] on Irving Place in New York City. Plot Mr. James Dillingham Young ("Jim") and his wife, Della, are a couple living in a modest flat. They each have one possession in which they take pride: Della's beautiful long, flowing hair and Jim's gold watch, which had belonged to his father and grandfather. On Christmas Eve, with only $1.87 in hand, and desperate to find a gift for Jim, Della sells her hair for $20, and eventually finds a platinum fob chain for Jim's watch for $21. Happy to have found the perfect gift at last, she runs home and begins to prepare dinner. When Jim comes home, he looks at Della with an expression “that she could not read, and it terrified her.” Della then admits to Jim that she sold her hair to buy him his present. Jim gives Della her present — an array of expensive combs for her hair (referred to as “The Combs”). Della then shows Jim the chain she bought for him, to...

...Barbara Barton 25406682 BIBL 104-B34 210240 LUO September 20, 2012 Summary of Old Testament Books LEVITICUS The book of Leviticus is a genre of the law. Moses is the author of this book and it is often referred to as the holiness code. “Do this because I the Lord your God am holy” is often mentioned in the book. Three different sacrificial offerings are presented to the Israelites as well. They consist of Consecratory, Expiatory and Communal. Consecratory being offerings of dedication of people or things to God. Expiatory were acknowledgements of sin and Communal were communities expressing thankfulness to God. God also wanted to establish the fact that the laws were not merely arbitrary but was indeed intended to help them understand the holiness nature of God. No longer would the Israelites be known as a group of former slaves they had become an established nation. This is also where we see the priesthood being established and thus creating a mediator between the people and their God. They now had rules and laws of which to live their lives on a daily basis. Joshua The book of Joshua is written in the style of a narrative. In this book we learn how Joshua led the people into the land of Canaan. We see two very well-known battles such as the battle of Jericho and the battle of Ai. The first battle of Jericho the city seemed impossible for man to conquer but with God we would soon learn that it was indeed possible. The next battle in the city of Ai was not as successful...

...one which has had a major impact on her whole life. The narrator reflects on the last summer before everything changed – her parents divorced, she never returned to Nigeria or saw her father’s family again. The memory begins eighteen years earlier in Nigeria at grandmamma’s place where the American-Nigerian narrator, her older brother Nonso and her cousin Dozie were all staying. Grandmamma favoured Nonso as the eldest grandson and the only one to carry the ‘Nnabuisi name’ (p.188) and largely ignored the other two. This was the summer that Nonso died, leaving grandmamma and her American daughter-in-law grief stricken. The narrator felt alienated from them both. The action moves from the memory to the present where the narrator has arrived back in Nigeria, having been called by Dozie for the first time in eighteen years and told about the death of her grandmother. Dozie tells her that he is surprised to see her because he knows how much she hated grandmamma. She recalls Nonso’s funeral and the months later where she told her mother that he died because grandmamma sent him up the avocado tree ‘to show how much of a man he was’ (p.194) and then frightened him by telling him there was a snake there. She also said that when he fell, grandmamma did nothing about it and he died because of this. The narrator then acknowledges to herself that this was the summer ‘you knew something had to happen to Nonso, so that you could survive’ (p.195) that he took up ‘too much space (p.195). ...CASE STUDY ON NORTH SHORE HOSPITAL BY GURMEET SINGH STUDENT ID 16899166 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The report prepared demonstrates the sales of past three years for Elective Surgery Centre at North Shore Hospital campus. The sales mainly comprises of surgeries related to hernia, cataract, vein and laser surgery and cosmetic and plastic surgery. We have used regression analysis to predict the sales for the fourth year, considering the seasonality of the sales and trends. The analysis done clearly indicates that the maximum sale is achieved between the month of June and September. The graph shows an upward trend indicating the regular increase in sales. We also calculated Mean Absolute percentage Variance to calculate our accuracy. It came out to be 2.5 which suggest our accuracy is 97.5% which is clearly not bad but to stay that way, we will have to monitor the forecasting every quarterly if not monthly because of the cost involved in it. Necessary changes should be made after forecasting it because strategic implementation is more necessary. Otherwise, forecasting will be of no use. We have also provided some recommendations for managing their capacity to equip themselves better in the high sales month and to get rid of the extra cost in the low sales month providing the cost effectiveness. ...Running head: CASE STUDY ANALYSIS PART A: “POWER PLAY FOR HOWARD” Case Study Analysis Claire Henry, Kathy Addison, Jeremy Seay, Jacinta Little MGT/445 August 13, 2010 Case Study Analysis Negotiation is a mutual place where conflict management and conflict resolution takes effect. For example, Juwan Howard was only 23 years old, when he was drafted into the National Basketball Association. Juwan was known for a hard working man, which acted responsibly with dignity and class, off the basket ball court and everywhere. During 1996 and 1997 in his sophomore season, besides becoming a Superstars, he was the highest paid basketball among other players, but the NBA voided his contract soon after. Howard had no choice but to return to the Bullets, signing a contract for seven-year that was worth $100 million. During this case study, the learning team B will evaluate the costs, benefits and risk of negotiation from the perspective of all parties associated with the case study analysis of “Power Play for Howard”. Case Summary The Miami Heat felt that having Juwan Howard on their team would take them to victory since they had not win for the last 6 years. Juwan Howard talent would definitely increase the chances of having a good year in winning. However, keeping Alonzo Mourning another talented player was important to the team also, therefore, Riley promised him “ to make him the highest paid player on the team” which conflicted with Howard’s contract. The NBA...

New Farmer Health Insurance Relies On Collective Bargaining MADISON, Wis. (AP)--A new group health insurance program for Wisconsin farmers is the first of its kind in the country and will serve as a model for others to follow, designers of the plan said. The program promises to offer comprehensive insurance plans at cheaper rates than farmers could get on their own and with more extensive coverage and benefits. "People are waiting in the agricultural community for an option like this that will provide the health care they deserve," said Sandi Cihlar, 57, a dairy farmer in Mosinee, who attended Monday's news conference announcing the plan. The Farmers' Health Cooperative of Wisconsin relies on the collective bargaining power of the...
