This shows that Rodriguez had problems growing up because he did not wanted to fully be considered Hispanic. In the essay, Rodriguez stated, “I did not grow up in the state of Jalisco, in the western part of Mexico. I grew up here, in this country amongst you, I am like you” (729). People could relate to some of the problems he had and that makes the author more persuasive with his words. Although there may be some people who still disagree with Rodriguez, they do need to realize that there is a ‘melting pot’ because in recent time there has been more immigrants seen in America. Due to that, different cultures have mixed, but each have kept some part of their original culture.
