The Life of a Princess Once upon a time, there lived a beautiful princess and a gallant prince. As brother and sister, they roamed the kingdom and the land beyond on horseback. “Giddy up!” The princess commanded her deep black shire as she and her brother raced up mountains, winded through trees, and trotted across rivers. Before long, the princess and the prince arrived at the castle and immediately inhaled the aroma of fanciful feast. With that, the make-believe kingdom melted away as Lila and Oliver’s stomachs brought them back to reality.
Miraculously, Lila and Oliver’s imaginations were intertwined in way that they played well with each other. They were the best of friends, and the worlds they created together felt vivid and realistic. …show more content…
“I don’t even remember how to fish.”
“Why don’t I go grab his pole and I’ll show you how to fish?”
“You know how to fish, Mama?” Clearly, Lila felt surprised that her Ma had the ability to fish and could teach her. Ma giggled at Lila’s criticism as she tucked Lila in bed and promised to take her fishing the following day.
Lila woke up the next morning all giddy and excited for the day’s adventure. If Ma reminds her how to fish, Lila decided that Oliver should join her and Ma on their fishing trip. As Oliver and Lila confidently strolled out of the house dressed and ready for their family’s fishing trip, Mama received a telephone call from her job; another employee had the fever and chills and could not make it to work, so that meant Ma would have to fill her shift for the day.
“I’m so sorry kids. Here’s the fishin’ poles. Now I want you two to go fish without me today alright. I promise I’ll go another time.” Ma sighed sympathetically.
“Oliver and I don’t remember how to fish though Ma.” Lila grumbled.
“I know you can figure it out. Just trust your instinct and don’t forget to dig the bait. Love you two.” Mama said as she hugged her children and drove off to

Princesses

...Disney Princesses: Friends or Foes? When a woman gets pregnant, the first thing she wonders is what the sex of the baby will be. If the child is a boy, the mother’s life will be filled with race cars and dirt, but if the child is a girl, life will be filled with pink, ponies and princesses. The traits of young children are not a new trend; they have been exemplified for the past twenty years on television and in all homes across the world. Being the mother of a small girl, Peggy Orenstein’s life is constantly bombarded with talk of being a princess. Orenstein wrote an article in the Contemporary Reader complaining that Disney Princesses are taking over culture and sending young girls the wrong messages about her femininity. Orenstein writes, “Its 2006, not 1950. This is Berkley, California. Does every little girl really have to be a princess?”(Orenstein, Peggy 101). I feel that Orenstein is wrong and selfish for not letting her daughter enjoy the princesses like every other little girl. Disney princesses are innocent and will do no harm in the long run. Through out this essay, I’ll show a positive side to the negatively perceived Disney princess. In an interview with Pamela Paul from Parents.com, Orenstein said this about her child, “My daughter went to preschool, and suddenly life was 24/7 princess. Before that, play had been about blocks and trains and other things, but that came to a screeching halt.” (Paul). I do not understand why this parent is so against her...

Zinaida's Love Determines Her Fate

...Chelsea Nicole T. Paclibar English 102-07 May 18, 2015 Argumentative Essay Essay #2: Final Draft Zinaida’s Love Determines Her Fate Ivan Turgenev’s “First Love,” is a story of unrequited and self-sacrificing love that tries to conquer all odds despite the circumstances. Love is the central theme of this story and it is therefore portrayed by the main characters. It follows a story of a young man named Vladimir Petrovich, as he falls in and out of love with his neighbor, Princess Zinaida Alexandrovna, daughter of Princess Zasyekin. Yet his love and admiration gets crushed after realizing that Zinaida is just being affectionate towards him because she sees him as a brother, and rather, that she is in love with Vladimir’s father, Pyotr Petrovich, which then ends up as an affair between both characters. The story concludes with both of them being exposed to this huge controversial scandal of adultery and results in Zinaida’s new loveless marriage and eventually her death. This story shows different meanings as to what love can be, as well as self-control and domination. Princess Zinaida deserved her fate because of her despicable personality, inconsistent affection towards suitors and immature outlook in love and happiness. Firstly, Princess Zinaida deserved her fate because of her despicable personality. She is a beautiful young lady who does not have that much to offer besides her pretty face. Princess Zinaida’s personality throughout the whole story, can be attributed as...

Many say she was one of the pioneers of the new Germany. But this is wrong. While she had a somewhat difficult life as the Empress in Germany, she didn’t contribute much to the German society. Empress Frederick was born on November 21, 1840 in Buckingham Palace as Princess Victoria Adelaide Mary Louisa to British parents; Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Princess Diana Research Paper

...The person I have selected for this research paper is Princess Diana. She changed the world by modernizing the idea of what a princess should be. She also put substance over style. I already know that she thought she never had a happy life. I know she died in a car crash because photographers were chasing her. The car crashed under a bridge because she was trying to get away from the photographers. I would like to learn why her life wasn’t that happy, and why she and Prince Charles got divorced. I will be looking at websites, such as the following, biography.com, theodysseyonline.com, and more for my website sources. I will be using the documentary Behind Closed Doors as my one alternative source. For my book sources, I am planning...

Disney Princess

...White’, ‘The Little Mermaid’, ‘Sleeping Beauty’, ‘Beauty and The Beast’, ‘Tangled’, and ‘Mulan’. Through the utilization of those films, I have carried my study in an order that would allow me to scrutinize the similarities assigned to the ‘pink’ customs fitted to Disney princesses, and any other differences that could break the code followed through years on the films – hence an investigation in the representation of conventional Disney princesses. Disney films have allowed children to compose a preconceived idea of women or female roles in the films or even in life altogether, as helpless, and in need of an external party (usually male – or the Prince Charming) to come in and switch their lives into the better. These stereotypical roles assigned to the princesses are usually coloured with the hue of certain behaviours, physical appearances and characteristic traits, which I will be looking into radically through the essay. For example, one factor that is most recurrent in Disney films is the value of physical appearance over wit or intellect. Secondly, the defenselessness and...

...Darah Holmes ENG 100-B14 Mr.Cortese September 21, 2015 SWA 3 (Dowd) “Our Own Warrior Princess” essay was written by Maureen Dowd. In this essay Jennifer has just had surgery and her Aunt is telling the audience about what she had to go through, such as the pain she injured after her surgery. Even though her uncle has already passed, she is the one that is afraid to go through the surgery and is also telling the story. This story is to communicate with those who are in need of people to donate from. This story was attended to those who are unsure or afraid of having surgery or donating anything needed. There were a lot of details the author used in this short essay. She reffered to Jennifer’s strength to Xena Warrior Princess. She also mentioned how people were afraid to mention that they were donors on their identification cards. The details in this story were very effective because it happens in our every day lives. In this story “Our Own WarriorPrincess”, the bigger picture is knowing that it is okay to be afraid to go and have surgery. But more importantly, it is okay to go out and save a life. Maureen Dowd transitioned this story into donating when she mentioned, “There was a complicated operation for the two side by side, that lasted from 7:30 a to 10 pm”(Dowd 255).This tells you that there were to people side by side getting ready for surgery and a transplant. In this story, the author reinforces her argument by letting you know that it is very...

Admissions Assesment Essay

...that this job demands. I continually ask myself why I want to do this for a living. The answer is quite simple – I never work a day in my life. Getting started in this business, means a successful person will have multiple employers over the course of a year. Each job or project is freelance and short term. At least that is the typical path and mentality that many technical theater graduates choose when first starting out. Initially, jobs will pay very little and are used as professional experience and resume builders. Getting those first few jobs is quite difficult as a graduate. It is true in entertainment that who you know verses what you know will actually get you jobs. I knew practically no one and thought I knew a lot. As a result, I had little experience and no industry contacts. Many doors closed automatically because I had little more than a college degree. I sent out tons of resumes and received very few responses, this proved to be a frustrating experience. I wanted to give up and quit many times. However, I was determined to keep trying for a career as long as it took. This process proved to take years and not months like I thought it would. Over time, feeding my family became more pressing and I ended up working in a factory sewing car seats for 2 years. I reminded myself everyday of what I wanted to do with my life and that factory work was only temporary. Looking for a career while being able to eat really helped my outlook for the future. It’s easier...

Nature In Sir Gawain And The Green Knight

...Nature is a vital part of life. It is a part of everything that is, even culture comes from nature. Though nature has been associated with the spiritual world since ancient times, society’s view of nature has changed over time. In the Golden Age of men, nature and man existed in peaceful equilibrium, but as time went on and the world changed, nature grew to be seen in a more negative light, as a hindrance and at times an outright antagonistic presence against mankind. When reading medieval texts such as Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, it becomes clear that the view of nature had retained this image as an undesirable force. Reviewing medievalist texts, like the film Princess Mononoke, presents a similar concept of nature, though it is given a greater presence than that given in Sir...

Japanese Anime

...ESSAY #1 From a historical standpoint, just about every culture on the planet has venerated males as dominate figures, while scorning females as the lesser sex. Japan is surely no exception to this method of opinion. Although, ironically male writers paved many of the pioneering days of shojo manga, many female writers emerged and revolutionized the shojo manga market and further gave women within Japanese society who read Shojo manga a sense of exemplification and ‘an air or authenticity’. This was an important mark within Japanese society, because it very closely related to the rise of femininity within Japan, as there were not many female artists before or after the World War. In came the era of the 1970s, and many female artists appeared to express their opinions by manga; their work met the demands of Japanese girls to read manga written from the female point of view. The development of manga had portrayed reality quite well, and sales within these girls’ magazines skyrocketed. As female artists maintained and developed more individuality within their art, Shojo manga in turn depicted the social roles and reduced responsibility that Japanese women had in society. Many of these magazines ‘pushed the envelope’ within society, as many of the relationships created within the stories were doseiai, or same sex romances. The writing and imagery reinforced a “visual of monotony, as many of the characters had similar facial features, and wore identical school uniforms as they...

Pocahontas: the Indian Princess

...Page 1 It can be easily assumed that almost everyone has heard the tale of the American Indian princess, Pocahontas – but is it true? John Smith's tales of Pocahontas have, over time, and with the help of Disney’s inaccurate rendition of Pocahontas’ story, encouraged the evolution of a great American myth. According to this myth, which is common knowledge to most Americans, Pocahontas was the fully clothed, disobedient daughter of Chief Powhatan who saved John Smith from being killed by her father and his warriors and ended up falling in love with Smith. But, was this the real Pocahontas? Was she like the Indian girl from the Disney movie who saved her reservation? Yes and no. Pocahontas was a real woman who had a great impact in the relationship between the foreigners and her people; her notoriety today is based on glorified tales that do not account for the tragedies that befell her. According to Camilla Townsend, “Long before Pocahontas became an icon, she was a child who walked and played beneath the towering trees of the Virginia woods, and then an adult woman who learned to love--and to hate--English men.” (Preface) Pocahontas was born in 1595 in Werowocomoco, Virginia. Pocahontas's real name was Matoaka. As a child, she was also called Pocahontas, meaning "playful one," and the name stuck. (Pocahontas Biography http://www.notablebiographies.com/Pe-Pu/Pocahontas.html) She had 20 brothers and 9 sisters, not including herself. At an early age Pocahontas was taught...

Marxist Alladin

...To what extent does Disney’s presentation of the Aladdin legend reflect and present the ruling class ideology? In this essay I will be focusing on the ruling class ideology that is shown frequently in the Disney version of Aladdin. I will discuss the relevance of Jafar, the power and reputation of the Genie and the beauty of Jasmine who Aladdin feels he himself doesn’t deserve. The other concepts that I will briefly touch upon is the false class consciousness theory, this is where the proletariats don’t know they are being exploited by the bourgeoisie. Also, I will explore ruling class exploitation; this is where the ruling class take advantage of the working class for their own personal gain. Throughout the whole of the story a ruling class ideology is very apparent, and towards the start of the book it starts to represent Aladdin as a ‘thief’ and a character that may have been this way his whole life. You could say that throughout the story, he is trying to break sociological norm and make his way to the top of society. Members of a lower class of society truly believe that they can’t make it to the top, and in truth this isn’t correct. Members of the Bourgeoisie sell us a pipe dream and would say that they have every right to get to the top, but the lower class suffer from false class consciousness and through social aspects such as media, sport and religion this consciousness is reflected in a capitalist view. The working class feel that they have to have done something...
