As Martha and Nick come down from the upstairs bedroom, Martha and Nick begin to talk. To Nick's surprise Martha reveals that George is the one true man that can make her happy. As Martha gives the speech her tone seems to be sincere. The speech is delivered in a style that makes it seem like Martha has done something wrong. Revealing that she should probably be nicer, but she knows that it is not likely. Her sincere tone is present when she is stating all the positive things about George. For example she says, “..who tolerates. which is intolerable; who is kind, which is cruel; who understands, which is beyond comprehension” (pg191).
