A Rhetorical Analysis Of Severn Suzuki Speech

In Severn Suzuki’s speech to representatives from all over the world who appeared to be discussing environmental conditions and sustainability. Severn chose to come before professionals who part-take in the decision making power to develop and implement a plan that is environmentally safe and sustain life. In addition, Severn, deliberately addressed her own fears and the fears of a whole generation with her audience in efforts to gain understanding and support. On the other hand, Ronald Regan was addressing all Americans regarding the great loss of seven astronauts on the Challenger Seven. Ronald was in a position to have to address the American public; the way in which he did it was brilliant. He honored the men and women who died on board of the Challenger, expressed his deep sorrow, yet also announced they knew the risks and the mission would continue.

In her powerful statement, “…you teach us not to fight, to work things out, respect others, cleanup our mess, not hurt other creatures, to share and not be greedy. Then why do you go out and do the things you tell us not to do? Again, questioning their ability to make intelligent decisions, possess good character and ability to be men and women of their word. Whereas Ronald revealed the character of the seven heroes who lost their lives in his statement, “Your loved ones were daring and brave, and they had a special grace, that special spirit that says. “Give me a challenge, and I’ll meet it with joy.” Ronald set the foundation needed when he said, “It’s all a part of taking a chance and expanding man’s horizons” thus appealing to the rationale behind the tragedy that occurred and integrity of the US space
