A STEPPING STONE FOR A BIG DREAM
A newly graduate high school student nowadays wonders what appropriate course to take. Some take up courses that their parents want them to take while others choose what their friends choose too. Before I took up Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology at University of La Salette, my primary reason was that I wanted to be a doctor and they say Medical Technology is the best pre-med course. However, as months passed by, I started to realize that it was a best choice to take medical technology because the modernized medical technology can give me the power to be able to answer some questions such as how it is possible to treat and look after an unconscious patient with simply knowing what is going on inside his/her body without any surgery which can make a very big difference to any surgical treatments. Imagining my life as a Medical Technologist few years from now gives me an unexplainable excitement to know how it became too possible that even one of the world’s most powerful explosives can eventually be used to treat heart conditions and also how one of the most dangerous poisons could save people’s lives. Through the technology now used by Medical Technologists, I will be able to understand those kinds of unbelievable instance clearly. If I become Medical Technologist, my work-related learning is much more than the job opportunity. I also believe that it is the most accurate opportunity that involves knowledge and skills in pursuing my future in the broad range occupational areas that are available. I am also planning to proceed as a surgeon specializing on either cardiology or neurology. But on instances, I also want to become a Pathologist which made the Medical Technology become the most appropriate and suited course that I need to take.
In my beginning as a student taking up Medical Technology at University of La Salette, I already showed and demonstrated my leadership capacity in every activities when I was in my freshman year. I am often elected as the class President and a first-year representative in Phismet Club, an organization of students taking up medical technology. Until now in my sophomore year, I am still elected as the class President and an officer of the Phismet Club. Being re-elected in a certain organization means that the members really believed in your capacity as an effective leader to them. And to be an effective leader, you should be able to perform your responsibilities whole-heartedly and be able to have an intimate relationship with your members. I believe that I’m an example of an effective leader because I possessed an air of self-assuredness and I have a way of being confident in my actions, even if that action is confidently (and wisely) admitting that I am unsure of something. I have an honest self-assessment process, which results in a steadiness that others are drawn to and are willing to follow me. A leader should also affiliated with a sense of relating with others because relating to someone is the beginning of a good friendship. But we cannot relate to someone if we have not had the same or similar experiences as they have. In my experience as a leader, possessing humility gives me the capacity to relate to everyone. I put myself in the level of whomever I am speaking. To really listen to others, I silenced my ego and give the floor and the moment to the other person. In this way, I can learn from them which is very important to my personal overall growth as I mature. Relating with others is very significant because everyone we meet is a teacher, in some way which can help us in the present or in the future of our lives, only if we are willing to listen and learn.
Being a leader also has to emerge to act as a strong role model and provide inspirational motivation for everyone. Lately, I’ve been involved in many community activities in our school. My greatest achievement was our First Aid Training that was held last February 8-9, 2014 at University of La Salette. We, students taking up medical technology, were trained how to give basic first aids to those people who committed accident. As a result, I was awarded as the Best First Aider of the Year 2014 which makes me an inspiration to my co-students. Moreover, I also actively participated in big activities of our school such as the First North Luzon Phismets Congress held at University of La Salette, Santiago City. Many schools coming from different regions in Luzon have also participated. Within two days, the said Congress had given me the chance to meet other students from different places and I really learned a lot from them. From every activities we engaged, it helped me to bring great ideas and to enhance my leadership skills. My involvements from these activities were treasured moments because sooner or later this experiences will help me to apply it in certain life-situations and will shape me to be a good Medical Technologist someday.

Personal Statement

...Since completing my bachelor’s degree in 2011, the thought of pursuing my MBA has been but a dream. I am excited to now be in a position where that dream can finally become a reality. Getting to this point in my life has not necessarily been the easiest or most straight forward thing. Upon leaving the Antigua State College, my love for music led me to enter the world of teaching. At times, I would find myself with students my own age. While this proved to be challenging at first, it helped me to further develop my abilities as a leader, which continue to be beneficial to me in both my personal and professional life. Following my short stint as a violin instructor, I entered the banking and finance sector where I worked as a customer service representative for two years. In this position, I saw my interpersonal and communication skills grow at an exponential rate. The time spent working at the bank also solidified the practical application of concepts I would have come across at the post-secondary level. It was at this time that I decided to go back to school and pursue my bachelor’s degree. I decided to undertake a double major in both Accounting and Economics given my keen interest in both subject areas. Upon successful completion of the program, I returned to my home country and joined one of the Big 4 Accounting firms. As a CPA and senior accountant, I have developed a solid foundation in teamwork, analytical, and problem-solving skills. My designation has facilitated specialized...

More Taxes for the Rich

...More Taxes for the Rich The United States of America is the land of freedom, equality, and opportunity for each and every American, with the ability to live the “American Dream.” The American Dream suggests that anyone in the United States is able to follow their hopes and aspirations, succeed through hard work, and has the potential to lead a happy and successful life. Through hard work and dedication, reaching success and wealth is never too far, everyone receives as much as they put in. America is one of the world’s leading nations, with a high quality of government, development, military, and more. Many factors of our nation that put us at the top of the chain come from support of Americans themselves, the individuals living in the United States, through taxes. It is required that anyone who receives an income must pay taxes. Taxes are certain fees or charges that the government requires people to pay in order to live and work in their state or country. The government needs money to operate, and taxes are a way for them to get this money. This money is used to fund various types of programs such as education, military, social security, and more. Each and every American generating an income is subject to pay for these taxes. Although, not every American makes the same amount of money. It isn’t fair for those individuals who don’t receive as much income to pay for the same fixed tax amount as the wealthier citizens in the state. The rich should pay more taxes because they...

...All through my undergraduate study, I had dreamt of working in an oil company where global exposure, offshore training, extensive network, exposure and fantastic pay would be mine. Unfortunately, a lull in the industry at the time of my graduation made it difficult to get a placement at any of such organisations and hence, I failed to actualize my dream! Horace Adversity Research Paper

...Almost every single day we face adversity, whether from an academic standpoint or from a home life standpoint, and these have effects on us. We often forget how challenges and daily difficulties are what push us and motivate us to strive for better. As Horace states, everyone should use their adversity as a stepping stone to strengthen them as a whole and better their character; without adversity, we would never be exposed to the talents we have hidden within. When we face adversity, such as in an academic setting, we are pushed and given opportunities to elicit our true intellectual and physical talents. For example, when we are placed into the four core classes: science, math, history, and English, we are asked to study and memorize information while working towards the end goal of good grades. In the big picture, when we take tests and take these courses, we learn what subjects we excel in and which we struggle with, which often helps guide students to carefully select their perfect career path. Without both...

Minimum Wage Debate

...at all.” He wants to speed economic growth by putting more money into the pockets of the low-income families. He wants to help them get out of poverty by raising the federal minimum wage and pegging it to inflation. The President believes that this solution will help big businesses in the long run by decreasing employee training cost and cutting back on high turnovers. In contrary, Obama will hurt the people he is trying to help. “This proposal will only harm the people the President wants to help, especially teens, who have already endured more than four years of 20+percent unemployment,” Saltman said. “If the President wants to boost the economy and have an impact on the country’s unemployment rate, he needs to lower barriers to hiring, not raise them.” The minimum wage class is mostly made up of teenagers and young adults. These people are usually people with low skills and have little or no experience. Some of them are first time job seekers just starting out in the work force. Most of us at some point in our lives have started out working a minimum wage job. Why? We need the minimum wage jobs to help us gain the experience we need to climb the success ladder for a higher paying job. They are stepping stone jobs. ...QUALITIES AND SKILLS OF ONE OF MALAYSIA’S MOST SUCCESFUL ENTRPRENEUR 1. Think success.  To attain the kind of success that we want, we need to dream big. Every success story starts with big dreams. We need to have big dreams for ourself - which we want to be somebody rich, famous or fulfilled. We need to have a clear vision of what we want to achieve. But it doesn't stop in dreaming alone. We should actively visualize success in our mind that we can almost feel it, touch it or it is within our reach. Play this image back at every opportunity. What does it feel to triple our current income? How will our life change? What will our business look like if we achieved the million-dollar mark? Successful entrepreneurs possess an attitude of openness and faith that we can have what we want if we can simply envision it as the first step on the path of action to acquiring it. Management gurus have taught us the power of visualization - seeing ourself in our mind as having accomplished our dreams. If we want to be a successful writer, envision ourself signing books for a throng of people who have lined up to have our autograph. If we want to be rich, picture ourself in luxurious surroundings holding a fat bank account. And the process of envisioning success for we should be a constant activity! We need to think that we are successful (or will be one) every single waking hour. A personal development coach shared me her secret to help her continuously visualize her goals for the moment:...

Expanding Your Horizons

...Upon searching for a non-profit organization to write my research paper on, I was over whelmed because there are numerous amounts of organizations throughout the country that assist people and communities with different services. My first priority was to stay far from excessively popular large organizations and bring to light a less popular one. I looked up the meaning and functions of ‘non-profit organization’ which is defined as “an incorporated organization which exists for educational or charitable reasons, and from which its shareholders or trustees do not benefit financially.” After carefully considering many exemplary organizations, and knowing of what exactly a non-profit organization is, and how the said organization should operate I selected the Expand Your Horizons non-profit organization. The Organization began in 1974, as a Math and Science Network with an informal group made up of women scientists, and educators, in the San Francisco Bay Area. The concerned with the low female participation in math and science courses initiated them to plan and coordinate programs to strengthen girls in these topics. A two year grant from the Carnegie Corporation in 1978 was awarded to the small Network to help establish it as a formal organization and soon the organization operated at the Mills College campus in Oakland, California. The mission of this organization is to “encourage young teenage girls in middle and high school to pursue science, technology, engineering and...
