...Marriage Guidance – Summary MGG201W MGG201W – Marriage Guidance – facilitative couples counselling Theme ONE – Understanding couples Intimacy involves: love, affection and caring, deep attachment to another person. The TRIPOD of couple relationships An intimate relationship consists of three factors that form a tripod on which the relationship rests. 1. Passionate attraction (PA) 2. Mutual expectations (ME) 3. Personal intentions (PI) Passionate attractions (PA) → Individual experiences intensely pleasurable sensations when thinking about or being with a new partner. → Blushing, trembling, breathlessness, high sexual desire → Referred to as infatuation = passing love “a foolish and unreasoning love’ → Infatuation is not a realistic / accurate appraisal of the relationship / idealisation → Negative / flaws in the idealised beloved may be intellectually recognised, but disregarded as endearingly special. Person chooses to ignore the negatives → Normal phase in the process of relationships → Infatuation can lead to a lasting relationship – but it mostly fades away and relationship based on infatuation alone will fail. Love → Involves physical attraction - deeper → Love encompasses PA, ME and PI → People rely mostly on life experiences to guide them to their own unique way of demonstrating love. → Eric Fromm “love is active concern for the life and growth of the person we love” → Love is deep, unselfish, caring, deep respect Hauck’s basic principles about love • It is not just...

...AUTHOR INFORMATION 1 SUMMARY 1 CONCRETE RESPONSES 3 REFLECTION 5 APPLICATION 6 BIBLIOGRAPHY 8 Bibliographical Entry Hawkins, Ronald E. Strengthening marital intimacy. Kearney NE: Morris, 1991. Author Information Ron Hawkins currently serves Liberty University as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Interim Provost. He has decades of experience in both higher education and in Christian counseling, having also served previously as a pastor and professor of counseling. SUMMARY In his book Strengthening Marital Intimacy, Ron Hawkins provides a useful, highly readable, and solidly biblical discussion of the importance of marital intimacy as well as ways for couples to strengthen that intimacy. The book is written for Christian couples aiming to improve their marriage and marital intimacy, though the book is written a notch higher than most mass-market/self-help type books, yet it remains more approachable/engageable than a dry merely academic volume. In presenting his ideas for improved marital intimacy, Hawkins delves deeply into Scripture as both the authority and guide for marriage; implicit in his presentation is that he is writing of traditional biblical marriage, not the more recent loosely defined forms of “marriage” or cohabitation. Hawkins’ initial chapter presents marriage as God’s design, not as man’s arrangement or contract. Hawkins further notes that he personally began marriage as a new Christian, having...

...Causing Extramarital Affairs Introduction According to Herbert S. Strean’s “The Extramarital Affair”, only happy people can have a happy marriage and an extramarital affair is almost always a sign of a conflict marriage. People who have unhappy marriages tend to have extramarital activities in order to achieve happier marital intersections therefore they can return to their stable family lives and continue their marriages. Extramarital affair also can refer to a way of expressing the anger and unhappiness for people who are in unhappy marriage. In addition, the couples who have longer marriage years tend to have more chances to have extramarital activities since they will have less willingness to make up their relationships. Especially if their relationships already have had problems for a long period of time, they will have extramarital affairs instead of solving the problems in their relationships since solving the problems is more difficult and sometimes people tend to do something to achieve happiness and avoid the difficulties in their lives. Theoretical Model In the project, I assigned the number of affairs as the dependent variable. Since individuals’ extramarital behavior has a close relationship with their married years and their happiness in marriage, I assigned the number of years married and the self-rating of marriage as the independent variables. I am going to discuss how the two factors affect the individuals’ number of extramarital activities. The estimation...

Establishment of Ethos: I am an expert at this because I have studied both opinions on this situation and referred to different people about their view on this topic. C. ... Book Critique: His Needs, Her Needs: Building An Affair-Proof Marriage by Willard F. Harley, Jr. A Paper Submitted to Dr. Brown In Partial Fulfillment Of the Requirements for the Course Preventing Ministry Failure LEAD 625 By Adrian Mack 27 January 2014 CONTENTS SUMMARY 2 CRITIQUE 3 EVALUATION 4 Summary In His Needs, Her Needs, Willard F. Harley, Jr. is not solely talking about affairs, but is elaborating on the underlying themes of communication and selflessness. In the first chapter, Harley explains that when a person explains their relationship problems to someone external to the relationship, it can easily lead to an affair because a bond forms with this new person and he or she understands the needs that one yearns for in their life, time and again able to meet the needs if an affair begins (Harley 20). During his tenure counseling couples, Dr. Harley has recognized that men and women each have unique preferences in regards to their needs, and often differing perspectives on how the relationship would be “perfect.” Harley conceptualizes this with his analogy of a bank. Hence, communication, both talking and listening about problems and needs, is not the only necessary means to improve a relationship, but one must be willing to make the relationship work by considering not only themselves, but their significant other. For Harley, it is not about whether or not one is “skilled” at fulfilling their significant...

...It can be about anything: politics, sports, art, health, etc. Write a short summary of the story. Then, explain why it is interesting or important to you. One day ago, I read an article about young adults living together before marriage and I felt very interested about this article. According to one survey on 228 young adults living together before marriage, Master Luu Phuong Thao (The center of sociology - Institute of Social Sciences in Southern region) showed that: 77.3% young people living together from 1 to 2 years before marriage expected to get married. This ratio is only 58.8% after more than three years living together. At first, young people were very excited to care for each other, be together as a young family. However, after day by day, they will feel tired because of difficulties in the money, pregnant unexpected or fights together. They will feel that they lost faith in the common life and their choices are wrong. Finally, research has shown that people who live together before marriage dare to live together but they cannot have enough bravery to face the whisper of public opinion. After reading this article, I thought very carefully about that. In my opinions, living together before marriage is a bad idea because I made a mistake before. It is the reason why I think this article is very important with me and other women. First, I discovered that those who live together before marriage will have unhappier marriages because they regarded marriage as a less...

...Inequality Chapter 3 Summary: Racial and ethnic inequality is a social problem because it affects such a large number of people around the world. One way this can be seen is through prejudice which categories people based on age, sex, and social class. These can be good and bad. Institutional racism is a big deal today. Some companies will not hire a person simply because of their color or their sex. Another way to say this is racial discrimination which lets race or color impact a person’s ability to get a job. People like to think this doesn’t really happen when the harsh reality is that it happens all the time. Laws have been made to try and prevent this from happening but companies still practice it. Groups like the EEOC (equal employment opportunity commission) were created to enforce laws against discrimination in the work place. Some things we can do to change this is to look at person for their work ethic and quality and ignore the color of their skin or whether they are male or female. Through history we have tried to make everyone have the same standing in society which is called pluralism. We would take groups and “Americanize” them; you can see this in what we did to the Native Americans. Also we have segregated groups some by force, like the Jim Crow laws in the south, but others are by choice like the groups of the Amish. Reaction: In my life I have seen this happen on the news and in newspapers multiple times. That is why I have known about this social problem...
